I am not sure what ED's production/release strategy is (not really sure they are either for that matter). Anyway, having read Wag's May update it seems that F/A18 has been placed right at the back of the list. The post:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1743051#post1743051

seems to imply an accelerated development of F15 and SU27 and there is no mention of FA18. This is very different to 'that' video a few months back that did not mention SU27 but did put F15 and FA18 on the same plain.

For me this is sad news. I relish the thought of a high fidelity multi role fast mover with SEAD and stand off capability. Dont get me wrong I am not saying F15/SU27 is bad - its just they are not at the top of my excitement list.

Perhaps this means that the carrier landings and ground radar are proving to be a major stumbling block for ED. If this is the case thats sad news and probably means that F15/SU27 is probably going to be a late this year/early next year release. Condemning FA18 till at least 2 years from now - assuming no other projects/bugs get in the way.

Again, if thats the case this (to me) is sad news.

Any word from ED about the likely progression of FA18?

I hope to talk more about those next week.

That's when you'll get word about them... ;)

Don't delve too deep into trying to read between the lines.

Or perhaps it means with the work slowing on FC3, they can now devote the same amount of time/resources to the other airframes that they're still devoting to the Hornet. Don't be so quick to worry. We'll see what Wag's next Friday update discloses.

One thing is for certain around here........ED/DCS is full of surprises:D If someone told me a year ago I'd be flying a High Fidelity Huey Simulation in DCS...Well I'd of said they're Nuts!;) Yet here it is.

Remember,Matt Wagner was a CIA Operative {Cloak -n Dagger Deception}:D Personally,I think The Hornet has been in the DCS Assembly Line a long time and very close to Beta,I think we will see it this Summer:thumbup:.......puts away Magic 8 Ball:D

As much as I would like to see the hornet first, it is more complex than the F-15C: multirole, ground radar, carrier ops (not technically a requirement)... so if getting the eagle first means the hornet will come with more completeness and higher fidelity, then I have nothing to complain about. It is the more logical order after all. This does increase my chances of buying third party naval aircraft though (and the F-15 for that matter).

Yes I think you may well be right. Also, on top of the difficulty of Hornet (I quite agree that I could live without carrier ops if it was major issue- although I fear that is heresy for some), they already have a model for the F15 (inside and out) in the F15c FC3 aircraft. I suspect that will add to the speed of the F15c.

I cant see an F15E coming out anytime soon. It has the (same??)/similar ground radar to the F/A18. Further, I think the double cockpit conundrum is going to add to the wait for that airframe.

I don't think it was "lost" or anything, there is probably just a bigger development in the Su-27 and F-15C which made it possible to announce both modules earlier.

Both already have beautiful revamped 3D-models, and full-3D 6DOF cockpits out and tested in commercial releases.

ED has worked with the Su-27 since 1995, always trying to make it as realistic as possible. They might as well have been working on the Su-27's AFM as soon as they managed to implement AFM in general, they might have had it ready for a while, we don't know what happened behind the scenes.

I think it's only natural to bring these aircraft to DCS standard - they've been working to upgrade LOMAC era birds to DCS (as far as I recall, DCS:A-10C started out as an A-10A until they saw they could bring us the C no?)

Releasing other modules does not mean, in any way, that a module's been cancelled or anything like that. Look at how 3rd party devs have been working on their projects. Besides Coretex Designs and the DCS: MiG-21 team, I can't think of a single developing team that only has one project in the works.

We've had a truckload of screenshots of cockpits from all kinds of aircraft, including Mi-24, F-16 and Apache A. Looks like they have a pretty big list of aircraft with some degree of work in them, which will come out eventually.

i personally cant wait for the su-27 which ever version it is, i love it too much

Here's a 2008 post by Wags mentioning 6DOF cockpits for the Flanker and the Eagle (pics are gone, though): http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=422862#post422862

Also, quoting:

As for what happens after Black Shark, the team has several aircraft modules currently in development (this could include development of 6 DOF cockpits, avionics or flight dynamics). While the A-10A Suite 2 module will still likely follow the Black Shark, the following aircraft are also now planned for DCS in development at one stage or another:

1- A-10A Suite 2 (latest version of A-10A in active use)

2- A-10C Suite 3 (we now able to develop an entertainment version of the simulation we developed for them. We are very happy and excited about this).

3- AH-64A Blk. 49A

4- Su-27

5- F-15C

6- Mi-24V

7- F-16C

8- MiG-29A

Poko24 kindly gathered all he could find (AH-64A, F-16C, Mi-24V and A-10A), pretty nice material:

Oh I see. I remember there were showed some pics in the past that your asking for. I made a little researching and found only Apache cockpit...

Work will also accelerate on development of DCS: F-15C and DCS: Su-27.

I'm no linguist but that just mean they can start focusing more on those two modules. :D

ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

I'm not sure that's an accurate statement...while designed by different companies for different missions, the F-15 and F-18 were developed essentially during the same period using the hardware and technology available at the time. Simple fact is, the YF-17 was designed for the Light Weight Fighter program and lost out to the F-16. If the Navy hasn't saved the program there's no telling what we'd be discussing. Not that the F-18 isn't a great plane... But not really more advance than the -15.

Hope your right :) Hope that implies a 2-4 month release for the F15/Su27 to allow for more work on the F/A18. I am still hoping (massively hoping) for a late 2013 or early 2014 release of F/A18 - or earlier ;)

I believe he can neither confirm nor deny that the development of DCS F/A-18 has been pushed back.

He could tell us... But then he'd have to kill us. :D

(Actually I'm sure there's plenty of us he wouldn't mind killing. )

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

While I would personally rather have a DCS F18, a F15 and Su27 with the current assests in FC would probably come much quicker. That is a good thing.

A DCS level F15 and Su27 by ED. Who in their right mind could have any complaints! Can't freaking wait. Hopefully they will release at the same time for ful DCS DACT.
