wess24m Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 (edited) This is a longer more detailed mission. Will take about an hour or so to complete, there's plenty to do and shoot at (as well as dodging BEING shot at). This mission will test your combat and chopper handling skills, you'll be at near max MTOW most of the time (weapons load out and other) during the mission. Word of advice save some ammo for the end by the bridge, you don't have to kill every living thing to complete the mission just make sure the convoy makes it. I'd leave labels on for the first time you play as there is infantry not out in the open. MISSION Let me know if there's any errors or broken triggers, or how you like it. To avoid confusion when told to RTB that means your home base.(the one you took off from) Edited May 9, 2013 by wess24m 1
Fuzzy_bear Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 (edited) Thx Wess. You're churning these puppies out like there's no tomorrow. great effort and much appreciated. loving your missions. Edited May 9, 2013 by Fuzzy_bear typo
wess24m Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 Thx Wess. You're churning these puppies out like there's no tomorrow. great effort and much appreciated. loving your missions. Well i'm getting better with the ME, took me a long while to figure out the triggers and flags ect ect. Still working on it. Let me know if you (or anybody else) has mission ideas and i'll make some more missions based off these ideas. My next set of missions is going to be based off the stories of the missions in the "chickenhawk" book i'm reading so they should be pretty realistic.
Nubbit Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Loved your last mission so will definately try this one out. Very glad to hear your next missions will be inspired by chickenhawk :) I just powered through that book in one go yesterday evening so I'm pretty psyched to get some 'nam flying in.

Very glad to hear your next missions will be inspired by chickenhawk :) I just powered through that book in one go yesterday evening so I'm pretty psyched to get some 'nam flying in. The issue with modeling real world missions is that people get bored. This is a constant struggle with building missions, if you went straight from the book you'd have an hour or more of flying before something might happen. Thats why people telling me what they'd like helps, one of my upcoming mission's would be a "Zero dark thirty" type mission but from the chopper pilot perspective i'd think it would be pretty dull. When making a mission for say an A-10C you can at least scope out the area with the TGP and get ready for whatever, in the Huey you're kinda just bored bored theeenn you're getting shot at. If people tell me what kinda missions they like, troop drop off's, the whole red army coming over the hill at them (not a fan), some recon, medivac, it helps. I love the Huey so far and it looks very promising but there are things that are just not possible if you wanna keep it real. You're not going to be taking on heavy armor, sams (unless unmanned), a whole battalion of troops.

Cowboy10uk Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 THX, but again with forced icons, simply FM and hot start? :) Music like always 40 FM? Ah yes, but they are all easily changed in the editor. Switch helicopters to takeoff from pan, go into mission options turn off the icons and simple fm, and then find the radio and edit the trigger for freq to whatever you want. 3 mins work. Wish they would edit the takeoff from farp setting to cold and dark though rather than rotors running. However think this is a restriction on the mission editor, rather than anything else. Cowboy10uk [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Fighter pilots make movies, Attack pilots make history, Helicopter pilots make heros. :pilotfly: Corsair 570x Crystal Case, Intel 8700K O/clocked to 4.8ghz, 32GB Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 3200 MHZ Ram, 2 x 1TB M2 drives, 2 x 4TB Hard Drives, Nvidia EVGA GTX 1080ti FTW, Maximus x Hero MB, H150i Cooler, 6 x Corsair LL120 RGB Fans And a bloody awful Pilot
wess24m Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 (edited) THX, but again with forced icons, simply FM and hot start? :) Music like always 40 FM? I didn't even realize that they were forced on. Yea I have a radio station on 40 FM. To test the mission I have to fly them 100 times so I just had that stuff on to test triggers. Fixing now, BTW you can go into the ME and turn that stuff off. **EDIT** fixed. Only thing forced are scenes/civ traffic/G effects/ which you can change if you like. Kept the hot start so you could get to the convoy. if you'd like a cold start you'll have to either catch the convoy late or set a hold timer on them. As stated above anything you like can be changed in the ME. Edited May 9, 2013 by wess24m
YoYo Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Your the first was with forced icons :) - and I cant changed it but ok, now I know than I can change it in mission's editor. Thank You. TurboHog Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I understand triggers pretty well, it's the flags I don't get. A flag is just a 'thing' that is either 1 or 0. on or off. Now you can do all funny things with them suchs as using them in conditions (false, true, time since flag activation, etc). Example: flag 1 turns on when a convoy enter a trigger zone. Next trigger has condition time since flag 1 20 seconds and the action is the activation of an ambush. This will make the ambush appear 20 seconds after the unit entered the trigger zone. Thats a very basic application but you can imagine the possibilities. Advanced waypoint actions for example can also be controlled by flags by using the 'is user flag' start or stop condition 'Frett'

In the convoy mission I made I had to mess around with turning on and off the group AI until they kinda matched up. Right now they "escort" the convoy and I set the 2 groups for the same speed but the escort pulls ahead. I've also seen the follow command for some units but not others. Any fix for this?
WolfK33 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 (edited) Absolutely great mission again, I loved it ! Thank you so much for all your work ! Funny, when I neared Gudauta again I thought "I'm gonna land over there at the hangar and pretend it's the medical area..." 5 seconds later the message and the smoke came  Dear ED/Belsimtek Devs, we need a MASH object with tents and a Red-Cross Helipad pretty please ! Maybe as a FARP "light" where you can get fuel but no weapons ? I hope I can play "Zero dark thirty" too tonight. When the woman falls asleep on the couch...:smilewink: Edited May 9, 2013 by WolfK33

Good luck with Zero Dark Thirty, I made it last night but didn't get a chance to fly it, worked perfectly (when tested this morning) but that blackhawk is hard to track at night. Not sure how to get it to turn on formation lights, although i'm sure they'd be off or very dim when closer to the target area.
leonpo Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Thanks! Looking forward for "chickenhawk" book missions Leon

XCrosser Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I've been enjoying your missions also! If you keep this up you're just going to need to start a single thread and compile everything into one source. Also if possible maybe different radio stations/randomized music (dunno if randomized music is possible at all)? Haven't run through the escort mission yet but where's the CCR?

Also if possible maybe different radio stations/randomized music (dunno if randomized music is possible at all)? Haven't run through the escort mission yet but where's the CCR? Different radio station is definitely in the future, as of right now I can't randomize the music as it has to be saved in one sound file, what I can do is (as you say) have different stations, another thing I can do it have triggered zone for different songs ect. I was going to put "Ride of the valkyries" as a trigger when you're running in on your targets but thats for the future I'm not a huge music person so i'm running out of music to mix up and put in mission. A separate thread would be cool, like a mission thread not just for me, i'm sure other people are making missions as well. One thing that would make all my missions better is voice overs, the issue is I only have me and my voicing playing a half dozen radio operators would kinda kill the immersion (at least for me, if I was playing). Edited May 9, 2013 by wess24m
wess24m Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 Thanks! Looking forward for "chickenhawk" book missions Leon I'm going to have to get creative with the chickenhawk missions, as i've said elsewhere real world missions are boring 90% of the time with the other 10% being terrifying. I'm sure you guys don't wanna fly a general around directing troops for 10 hours, or fly troops to a different FARP with no enemy contact. I've got some ideas but we'll see how they work out in mission form.
WolfK33 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 (edited) fly troops to a different FARP with no enemy contact. To tell the truth, I'd have no problem with that from time to time. Combined with the music and mayyybeee some voice chatter from the crew mixed in (roughly quotes from the book ?) that would be fun for me, I like "ass 'n' trash" :pilotfly: :) Edit: Mabe if it's a mission with not so long flights in one piece, you know, have several landings/sorties in one mission. Start after dropping off some troops, then have to do a medivac, then transport this and that... Edited May 9, 2013 by WolfK33

The music and voice stuff is going to have to be for later, what I could do is loop ATC traffic from real life on one or multiple radio channels.
WolfK33 Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Sounds great ! I'm sure I'll like every mission you make ,so far one was even greater than the other !
