hreich Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Has anybody improved their transition from forward flight to hover after new patch? I seem to land easier now - without that rapid uncontrolled descents into ground.. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Pilot from Croatia
Devrim Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Me! I wrote that in several threads. After update, my hovering and approaching skills have rapidly improved(!) :D :D Something has changed and done really perfect! Thanks Belsimtek!. Mogster Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I think its a placebo. You can hit the ground harder without exploding, VRS is still hard/impossible to get out of.
fjacobsen Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I think taht triggering VRS is the same as before, but thye sudden increase of decend rate when loosing ETL is less pronounced or more gradual. VRS is relative easy to get out of if You have the reqired altitude. Lower the collective and get some forward airspeed and - voila. | i7-10700K 3.8-5.1Ghz | 64GB RAM | RTX 4070 12GB | 1x1TB M.2. cichlidfan Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I think its a placebo. You can hit the ground harder without exploding, VRS is still hard/impossible to get out of. Updates always generate these placebo effects. The Mustang was the same way even though the devs would say there were no changes. Devrim Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Guys. Please don't make me install v.1.2.4, get a track, and later update latest version and play the track. :) {lyrics of the song composed by me} That's not a placebo. Ok, may be it's not VRS. But it must be another adjust, as fjacobsen stated. But, something has been changed nicely. I had trouble about VRS and approaching to certain landing point. I did an update last night, at 22:00, and ... voila! I wonder, how my skills improved that fast? Suchacz Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) VRS tuning was already included in DCS 1.2.4.12179.160 released on 5-15-2013, it was mentioned in changelog http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1758651&postcount=4 I didn't noticed any change from that update, and changelogs didn't mentioned any change also. Biggus Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I too have seen a large improvement in my own flying ability in the time since the last update. There's been some tweak somewhere in this patch, maybe not directly to the VRS or the FM, but something certainly feels different.
marker Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I definitely notice the change, although I thnk that is because my muscle memory is starting to come into play. Saying that, I still think the placebo affect is taking place with some people.. “Any pilot should be flying the spitfire, at least once.” – John S. Blyth
Rogue Trooper Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I think transition is smoother, also I think the helicopter is a bit more responsive a little more like the original release. HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled. DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!. Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.
LupinYonder Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Yesterday while trying out a missing that dynamically spawns troops for deployment or pickup from UH-1 I managed several landings in a hostile zone with out crashing or damage! Very pleased. I think part of the trick for landing is to pick your spot early and do a shallow controlled descent to it with minimal collective change, just keep a smooth rate of decent right up until you hit the extra lift from the ground.

Jep, and you have to look, that you Collective is never completly down during the short final... alsways a bit power on the stick, so the Governor is working, and esp. then, when it should be ;)
Napa Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 (edited) I updated to the latest version. I've noticed some stability especially with yaw, generally not a lot though. My skills have definitely improved (coupled with the adjustments I did on my HOTAS for better handling and better precision in flight) but at the end of the day it's still the same when I try to land it. If I show some slack... I'll crash. The only thing that bothers me really is entering translational lift (I think that's how it's called) again when I slow down to hover before touching down. I don't know if that's suppose to happen, I don't get into VRS so easily now because I learned how to compensate with collective power and watching my descent rate not to exceed 500 fpm. Then the aircraft starts to shake violently and things become hairy if you don't compensate. Then the hardest part is to balance it without oscillating in any direction too much before slowly putting it down. I watched so many videos (and movies) with Huey pilots landing with extreme precision and they make it look so damn easy it's unbelievable to me that this module it's anywhere near completion I think. We'll definitely see more improvements with the upcoming patches in stability. Edit: If I'm mistaken, please correct me. Mogster Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 If real heli's were this dangerous the design would have been shelved in the 1950s. I'm enjoying the challenging FM to a degree but it does limit the way you operate the aircraft. I don't feel I should be fighting for control while trying to accomplish very sedate manoeuvres.
MFG62 Joker Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I don't feel I should be fighting for control while trying to accomplish very sedate manoeuvres. Maybe you should learn to understand and accept the operational envelope of the crate and take care that you operate within its limits. Thats not easy, but thats the way its done. After all this is a simulation and not a JohhnyJoystick´s hop-in-and-do-some-pilot-tricks game. Don´t be offended, that´s just my 2ct.
Napa Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I think when Mogster said "very sedate maneuvers" meant that he's flying very slowly and very conservative. That's exactly the opposite from a Johny Joystick hop-in-and-do-some-pilot-tricks game that you refer to. Phantom88 Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 It could be we're all getting used to The AFM and anticipating VRS before it's too late. Patrick
MFG62 Joker Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I understood what he meant. But you can try to fly a very modestly controlled maneuver if flown outside the operational limits there should be a correponding reaction. I just fear that step by step the AFM gets corrected to the arcade side while trying to gratify complaints about complexity.
Napa Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Belsimtek and ED shouldn't listen to our complaints then and do what they do best. Devrim Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Actually I've never said "VRS is gone" or "FM is reduced" etc. Belsimtek must have done something about what it should be. In my opinion, they should listen to us of course. And thanks them for they do.
