I have and it can, unfortunately Tomcatz used the original Kutz deck textures and there are some big colour overlaps and it's not a good fit in places, I am working on new deck textures for both ships.

 

I am no skinner and my best shot will be similar to the Liaoning above, but at least it will look right and either way they are better looking ships than the in game Kutz.

A better skinner might do better skins if there is enough interest in this.

 

I imagine DCS will upgrade their model in due course, so until then.

OK. It will be good enough till ED renew the carrier models (probably close to F-18C module release).

 

Looking forward for your adaptation of Tom's model!

That's where I am heading with this:

 

2 x USA CVN's (Done), Kutz (New Decks being done, the existing decks do not fit well at all) and Liaoning (New decks done), just waiting for HungaroJET to do a new EDM for Liaoing to allow for a different deck texture.

 

He did the work on the original Tomcatz CVN edm's to allow for 2 different deck textures. Thank god we have guys like him on here to help with the difficult stuff.

 

You could actually have 3 x CVN's if you keep the existing game model, but you will run out of viable 'host' ship models to use.

 

Gain a carrier - we loose something else. I have opted to use up the existing CVN, the existing Kutz and the 2 Russian submarines, they are so small they will not be missed.

 

The Kutz deck is proving to be a real pain in the ass to do, lots of work involved and I am no skinner ..... :(

Did you give a try at attempting to add them as new objects instead of placing existing ones?

You need a EDM with different skin files than the kuznetsov for the deck? Give me 10mins and you have it :-) wanna have?

 

 

If you can change the Kutz edm mate that would be brilliant.

 

Change the 2 deck files to these names

 

Liaon-Deck-01.bmp

Liaon-Deck-02.bmp

 

and change the Su33 on the deck files names to:

 

SU-33-Liaon-R-06.bmp

SU-33-Liaon-L-06.bmp

 

Hungarojet was doing it but he said he was very busy and he might not have time, so any other help would be very much appreciated.

 

Fear naught - I will wrap this 4 ship bundle up and post a link when I have done with it, but it will be a while yet, I suffer from Dystonia and things that take you ten minutes take me 30, It's a slow process, bit like my sex life .....................

Don't know how to do that, sorry. Not sure you can actually, you can replace an existing aircraft with another aircraft but not a create a slot for a new aircraft, same with ships as far as I know.

good job guys :thumbup:

just some ideas more:

you should add other carriers as new ships (into mods folder) not only using different skins on russian side kuznetsov ship

and

you should add more ships on russian and usa side

and

you should add new chinese ships on insurgents side (or you should add more countries: china)

I tried to replace Kuznezow model with Liaoning and works but for Vinson... no success.

 

It would be nice if a base mod will be made that just replaces the old models for the new ones and then the Liaoning and CVN77 might be added with different skins.

 

Another issue might be the lights... they are not visible at night unless you are very close... anything can be done about it?

 

Also a "personal" problem of mine. I didn't flew from carriers from many time ago... and now I am surprised that I can't talk over the radio with Kuz or CVN70 towers... nor can I get "clear for take off. The CVN70/77 raise the back jet blast plate when I launch "from runway" but Kuz/Liaoning doesn't and if I restart engines or start from "parking spot" both towers promptly say to me that I am not cleared for take off.

 

Any light in this thing? Thanks!

Kutz blast plates are a known issue, Tom never made them workable because they were made for a previous version where the damn things would not go down after they had been raised so they stayed up all the time, his solution, no rising blast plates.

 

Don't know about the other radio or lighting problems, not encountered them yet. Like I said at the start this comes with all the known issues, warts and all.

Sorry mate, I do not know why certain things do not work.

 

What host models are you using for your ships ?

 

That might have something to do with it, if the host has poor lights and no radio (because its a submarine say) then perhaps the new model will suffer the same problem. It's not something I had envisaged with this kind of mod, but it seems possible that is your problem.

 

I have not got that far with this yet.
