xxJohnxx Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) Hi, I did some tests on the exhaust coolers, to see how they affect IR missiles in game, and the result shows how advanced this simulation really is. I uploaded two tracks, in which I tried to fly about the same approach and evasive manuvers, one with an Mi-8 with the exhaust coolers, one without those. The result was that with the exhaust coolers the flares could break the missiles lock much easier, while without the coolers I couldn't brake the missilies lock at all. The only problem remaining now: How to detect those damn launches. It is hard enough detecting the launch if you know where the missile is coming from, it is nearly impossible to see it if you don't know where to look. I would really like to see the IR jammer though!Mi8AlcoholExhaustChillers.trkMi8NoAlcoholExhaustChillers.trk Edited September 9, 2013 by xxJohnxx 1 Check out my YouTube: xxJohnxx Intel i7 6800k watercooled | ASUS Rampage V Edition 10 | 32 GB RAM | Asus GTX1080 watercooled

-MadCat- Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Very interesting that the sim seemingly considers these things. Yet I wonder how you removed the coolers in the first place. Upon reading this, I had a good look through the mission editor but couldn't find a checkbox or anything like there is for a civi mustang version. Please teach us your sorcery :D Greetings MadCat 1 Link -> Stateful button commands for many DCS modules
xxJohnxx Posted September 9, 2013 Author Posted September 9, 2013 Hi MadCat, Unfortunatly there is no direct way to remove or add those coolers. If coolers are present or not is bound to the livery. I am not entierly sure, but I guess that information is shown in the descritipion.lua in one of the last lines called: custom_args = { [457] = 1.0, -- EVU off } Check out my YouTube: xxJohnxx Intel i7 6800k watercooled | ASUS Rampage V Edition 10 | 32 GB RAM | Asus GTX1080 watercooled

With a georgian Mi-8, I didn't have coolers. With the russian UN skin, no coolers, too. But with the russian version, standard army skin, I have the coolers. AlphaOneSix Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 The Engine Exhaust Suppressors only use airflow to cool the exhaust. There is no alcohol system to help cool anything.
Griffin Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 (edited) I figure there would be a fundamental shortage of the coolant in Russian bases. :D One of my ex-FiAF teachers in college once told that the MiG-21 radar was cooled by pure alcohol which was delivered in large barrels. The barrels came with a separate denaturing agent which was to be poured into the barrels. Then one day... SOME DAMN FOOL ACTUALLY DID IT!!! That damn fool had an expensive trip to the liquor store that day. Ok, carry on... Edited September 10, 2013 by Griffin

Thank you !
