So, am I to understand that this game has no mouse look? I own an X-52 Pro and I bought it specifically for this game. On the throttle there is a small mouse that I can use to look around. This would help greatly if I could use this. Also how do you zoom in on something in your cockpit. I can barely read any of the writing on instruments in there?

How do you choose a skin? I'm sure there are more in this game than just the default. I also need a profile for the X-52 Pro version. The one I got from here is for the lower tier version.

Hi SPEKTRE76,

First of all welcome :D

I also use an X-52, but I also have a TrackIR.

I got some ideas how you could work the views with the X-52 -

First of all, I recommand using snap views, it's faster, you know exactly where you are looking (the P-51 has a bubble glass so its hard to get orientation).

If you would use the snap viewes then I think either the lower Hat switch on the stick or the Hat switch on the throttle.

If you want to use the mini stick on the throttle to look around you can do the following -

Edit the P-51D profile so that the mini stick is set to bands, this will give you 3 options for each axis of the mini stick, the middle option is the neutral position of that axis, and the other 2 options are right and left or up and down (respectivly to the axis you are using), on these options you can setup keys that are pressed.

For example -

If the keys 4 and 6 in the keypad are for looking left and right, then you would add these keys in the two options of the X axis.

Hope this helps you.

press left alt + c and you can use the mouse to look, also you can zoom in with the mouse wheel.

when saitek drivers are installed, the small mouse thing on the throttle should work, but havent tried it myself.

zoom via keyboard should be numpad / and * .

How do you choose a skin?
you can switch skins in the mission editor on the right side. when an aircraft is selected, you hit the small crosshair symbol for armament, and there you find a list of skins on the right side.

Oh wow thanks guys! Now I can fight the Dora. It was really hard not being able to look around. He got me in the end, LOL. I finally started the damn engine! today. I kept forgetting the Propeller RPM lever and the Boost Pump, LOL!

They sure took realism to the extreme with this sim. I tried to do a fast 'Hollywood' bank and my wings stuttered just like they should! And I went into a spin just like I should. Thanks for the skin help guys. I'll be posting my hack soon. I just need the skin templates and I'm all set.

A few suggestions, you could jump onto the " Virtual Aerobatic's " server or find us " Virtual Tuskegee Airmen " usually online practicing everyday..so join anyone of these to get lots of help in flying the " Cadillac " of the sky..P-51D Mustang...:music_whistling:

I have and it does not work. The throttle quadrant does not operate. There is a slider switch on there that acts as a one way only throttle and operates the canopy at the same time.

You probably need to clear out all the inputs in the controls section. Have the axis commands in the game and leave the rest to the profile. The slider should only be set to the canopy open / close. In the axis commands the throttle can be set there.

So, I cleared out all the commands and loaded the provided profile. It still does NOT work. The throttle HOTAS is bugged or broken. I can't believe I spent money on this game. Why does DCS: A-10C work and not this game? I hope this isn't the full release. I even have the "Sync HOTAS at start up' checked too. Does anyone have the .lua file for the profile provided above?

If you have a webcam you can use FaceTrackNoIR to view around the cockpit and zoom etc. It takes a little bit of setting up to get the views / movements just how you like them but it's free to use and no additional headgear etc. is required.

I do not think the problem is the simulation, more likely that joystick driver. Make sure you have the drivers in accordance with your OS 32bit or 64bit). For example, I try the newer drivers for Win 7x 64 but, when I try to change profile over Clutch (I) button it doesn't work well. In addition, the X52 is best to have SST_Software_64_6_6_6_9. Here, try this my profile. I took from somewhere (perhaps the 6S.Duke) profile and added some commands and adjust to my liking. I still have some changes so that profile is WIP, so you're gonna have something to change, and adapt to your taste.

I would like if someone made a (YouTube) video tutorial with narration (or subtitles) showing the flight controls, and parameters to perform basic aerobatic maneuvers: loop, barrel roll, split-S, etc.. :joystick: But this, so far, no one has done.

I FINALLY got the throttle working! I still can't take off yet, LOL. I did however make it about 800ft down the runway vice the usual 2 or 300ft I normally make it. I used slight back pressure on the stick to limit the tail wheel to 6 degrees of movement. The hard part is when I use forward pressure to lift the tail the plane shift to the right to fats for me to correct. There also seem to be a slight delay in control input to the plane from my stick?

I found taking off quite tricky until I realised you need a lot of right rudder and then as it leaves the ground you need right aileron to stop the left wingtip hitting the ground :)

Take-off:

======

50% fuel, no weapons other than 100% guns, I only set rudder trim at 2 or 3 degrees right rudder. Stick is in my lap, all the way back until about 100 mph I release the stick to neutral. Once off the runway, gear immediately up and I re-trim the ailerons, elevator, and rudder, wide open throttle. I am always re-trimming. Once stable I run less throttle and re-trim again. No curves are set in Axis Tune in Options except my rudder is curved to 27 on the slider.

With 2 wing tanks, 50% fuel load, and 6 rockets: I set 2 degrees right rudder, 2 degrees up elevator, 2 degrees right aileron, and 1 notch of flaps.

At take-off I am usually using my rudder-pedals a little bit, I feel my way.

The SP training tutorial for the P-51 helped me. I just played yesterday, 1st time since the Beta, months ago. It came back after I did the tutorial.

I "fly" in full sim, no cheats. CH Products controllers and the CH control Manager and the map profile I created.

Compared to the P-51D in Aces High, the DCS: P-51D is a bit trickier to fly. Fun, though!

This product is far away from anything I have encountered in a flight sim. It's NO game though as I have found out. It's a simulation and it's very hard to learn. I have managed to take off twice only to crash and I have been trying three weeks now. I am staying with it because it is very challenging but very exciting to have such a simulation in the first place. Good luck..well I need it !!

You could always post a track of your attempts as well. I'm not sure if it was suggested yet but that is one of the best ways to get some assistance. There may be on critical thing that is causing your frustration.

DieHard, which of the Rudder and Aileron trims you use more often in flight?

Thanks,

Sabre.

You should ever need any aileron trim really, abit of right rudder on take off and abit of left rudder at 300knts to keep it straight

pman,

Hi pman, so no aileron trim unless some asymmetrical load or emergency? That's what I'd expect.

Thanks,

Sabre.
