I thought the visual effects were extraordinary! That opening sequence and the space station falling through the atmosphere couldn't have been done better, but I didn't feel like the story was anything spectacular. Suspenseful, yes, but I felt like the story was only a couple inches deep. So much more could've been done with it to give us more reason to care about Sandra Bullock's character and root for her. It felt too mechanical in that aspect.

In retrospect, I wish I had seen it in IMAX because some of those shots were incredible!

I would have enjoyed the movie a lot more if it would have used no-name actors. Bullock was ok, but Clooney's ego overpowered half the movie distracting from my overall enjoyment of it.

I agree on the plot. There is zero depth and when they attempt to add depth it's pure 1 dimensional plot device. Frankly, they should've just kept the background information out of the storyline altogether and just did the whole thing strictly play-by-play. It would have been much better if they didn't even attempt to explain that stuff. The best you can hope for in the movie is to turn your brain off and enjoy the non-stop ride in IMAX 3D. IMHO the movie would suck in 2D on a smaller screen.

I give the overall movie 3 stars. The 3D and FX is 5 stars, but the acting and plot is nonsense.

Very good point

I am really eager to get this on BluRay and watch it on 3D projector (I have 120" screen :D) and now when I think about it, the story would be much more belivable if actors were new faces and now well known :noexpression:

I love Bullock, but Clooney annoys me with that one facial expression in every movie. Can't wait to see this though.

This was first movie in my life I saw in cinema in stunned silence. Nobody chewing, no bottle opening sounds, no laughing, no dumb comments and only two dropped cell-jingles.

It speaks by itself.

My recommends.

Exactly! Everyone was like 'That chick is going to ruin it for sure' and it was actually Clooney whoe seemed too distracting and annoying. This and a little over the top plot and I would still give the movie 8/10 if not for the obvious physics screwups.

I kindly remind you of the Europa Report

This movie is great in 3D, but keeping in mind that the nowadays 3D/4D/5D cinema is not even 3D (gotta love those marketing guys, eh?) I dare to say it benefits more from big screen than from 3D.

Europa, a film several scientists at JPL volunteered as consultants, is easily the best Sci-Fi movie I've seen. Breath taking as well as showing massive respect to sci-fi fans' intelligence. Sunshine is another great little film. Clooney didn't show up for work in neither of them which is great. :D

I agree about the great visuals and the thin plot of Gravity.

Clooney's character was somewhat overdone, but I can't help it, Clooney's just a great actor and helped sell the thin plot in this one. Another actor may have done an equally good job, but I can't say anything bad about him.

I'm very interested in the Blu Ray for Gravity as long as it includes an in-depth making of. I'd really like to know how they did some of those effects. Obviously a lot of green screen, but some of the zero G effects were still extremely amazing.

I guess I'll have to order a copy of Europa Report next, sounds good.
