I happened to be checking out SimHQ tonight and came across an interview with Eric "Aeyes" de Best on the home page http://www.simhq.com

Now I'm somewhat familiar the man's work as I've seen it on the Frugal web site, some years ago.....

He's been doing pits for Falcon 4 for quite some time as payware and now has worked directly with the developers on Falcon 4 AF....

Personally I don't own any of the Falcon series but in the interview I did come across something that really interested me....

It was a screenie of a F/A 18 pit that he has done, the pit does look spot on and I'm sure that the clickable pit aspect is there as well ......

But seeing as I haven't flown this sim a question came to mind regarding the F/D (flight dynamics) of the Bird.....

Does anyone know if the F/D is truley modeled accurately, I mean if its not whats the point is it just for show????

Now if it is correctly modeled whats to stop ED from bringing it out, How did Falcon aquire this information?????

I think this has been pretty much beaten to death - the particular quesiton you're asking, that is ...

Short story: The hornet stuff is classified, and ED, being Russian, would have a much tougher time acquiring these things than Falcon.

HAHAHAHAHA

if the classification of the info is the problem, NO ONE would get it, regardless of country of origin.

Thanks for your pleasent observation dude....

Well yes I'm aware of the issues that Ed has as I'm one of the first to join the Lock on English forum and have been following it since day one...

My question was about the accuarcy of the F/M for this particular bird as I've heard that the F/M for most of Falcons aircraft are the same.....

I honestly don't know as I don't actually fly that sim.....

So if the data for the FA/18 is truley classifed, and I know it is, then I don't think that the Falcon developers have access to it either or do they....

Have you tried this one yourself ?????

If so is it accurate and if not has anyone else tried it ?????

I'd like to know from someone that has flown this first hand.....

It's not accurate. It's an F-16 made to look like an F/A-18. Which, within certain limits, is still a good approximation I'd say, and the flight models and avionics have also been adjusted to reflect the Hornet. But they're still based on the Falcon.

Look at Aeyes' recently released MiG-29 cockpit and you will note it still displays the F-16 MFD screen:

http://www.cockpits.nl/prodgalMiG29.htm

The same is true for all other cockpits, including the Hornet. It is certainly not a replacement for real reference material. Even for the F-16, some stuff remains unknown as far as I know - the HARM employment procedures for example are quite simplified in Falcon4 as well.

What those cockpits truly provide is an excellent visual reference of course. They are extremely detailed and accurate in that respect after all.

Maybe but as already reported many times by Olgerd, ED has been able to acquire many manuals which now are for restricted use... for example the F-16CJ manual....

You can find the MLU manual on the net. I have it. The CJ, I don't know, though since it's being sold to other countries ...

You guys dont read between blazes lines...

He wants the 3D pit coverted to LOMAC's format (prpbably asking Aye's Original Dev modle) and then use it in with some other planes FM. I have no Idea how Instruments would work then though.

I don't think so... he asks why ED can't model what is already modelled by the Falcon team.

Anyway a 3D-pit is not a thing you can easily import-export. I think each sim must have its own pits built from scratch.

Ok I have the MLU manuals too. The CJ manuals are classified, like F-16 weapons manuals, and no foreigners could acquire them. ED managed to get them before they were restricted.

They are not classified. At least not all of them.

Thanks Caretaker this is the answer that I was really looking for.....

There have been other discusions in the past regarding the F/M in Falcon and I remember your statements about this, and they're concurrent with these recent events.....

So in fact the F/A-18 pit is unfortunatley really just so much window dressing and not entirely accurate....

Its a pity because Aeyes' pit is really breath takeing (LOL)......

And I know that ED preferres to go in a different direction regarding they'er F/M, and must have a plan for the future......

The FM is of an F-16 as is the MFD, HUD modes and it only has 1 engine. But it is still a very nice pit.

There are also 2 other questions that I've had for a while and simply haven't asked.....

I guess these have also been "beaten to death" as well but since I'm at it I'm going to ask anyway...

If someone has answers please reply .....

(1) Regarding Jane's F/A 18 (which I flew for a short time) F/M.

Is this similar to Falcon ????

(2) And I know that Wags was involved in F/A 18 : Operation Iraqi Freedom..

Woun't he be able to help with the F/M here in view of his past

experience???

Thanks Guy's

1. No, not really ...

2. He was also involved in JF18 and he has clearly stated that at the very least, JF18 had 'unique access' to information about the F-18. If you -can- find a public source for the 18's FM, then ED can implement it realistically.

If you -cannot-, then Wags can't help them either ... I'm sure he'll stop by and pretty much tell you the same thing, if what I read in his posts before still applies.

I use Janes F/A-18 still, the latest TSH patches are quite good, unfortunately its FM is a bit behind compared to lockons SFM (eg SU33). As for Carrier Ops with F4 are not very good, you can land and take off but it looks alot less realistic than even FS2002s carrier landings. Falcons FMs are better than JF/A-18, particularly HFFMs and the latest FM tweaks by LP(1.04-1.05) for F4AF which make it alot better handling.(particularly on the ground) I bet if TSH ever manage to finish negotiations with EA for JF/A-18s source code then you may well find a similar thing happen to what LP did with F4.

But the person is right, if things are classified, it doesn't matter who askes for it... Russian, German, French or Greenland, it's classified ;)

1- Not really. In JF18 the FM is completly dynamic with no scripting like Falcon.

2- I never worked on OIP; I think you're getting confused with Jane's F/A-18. I still work closely with Eagle and if (big IF) they were to do a Hornet sim someday then of course I would help. However, there is no data that Eagle does not already have that I could contribute.

Yes they should be restricted to foreigners, but as they are unclassified, there is still some chance to obtain some of them (to bye somewhere for example).

P.S.

My English is very rough sometimes... I am sorry. :)

Well this does sound awsome........

Thanks Olgred for that insite.......

As I'm a former Marine with an Aviation MOS, The F/A-18 is really my aircraft of choise, it just stands to reason.....

And I'm hopeing that someday soon I'll possibly able to jump into one of these birds and go through the whole start up proceadure just as ED has planned for B/S and take to the sky's even if its only a simulation.....

This will without a dought be Flight Heaven for me (LOL).....

Outstanding Olgred and ED keep up the good work and thanks Wags for takeing the time out to relay information regarding my questions......

Dont be pedantic chennuts, you should know Marines (maybe) arn't renowned for spelling.

And anyway why do you say "hungry", are you getting doughts mixed up with doughnuts? Dought is phonetically closer to doubt than doughnut.

In Falcon - all cockpits are just "skins" that mask over the F16 pit. So you can download a Tornado, F111 or F18 cockpit, you are still flying an F16, just the asthetics have changed.
