I have a question about this just got a 4k Monitor today don't understand the difference between the DP and HDMI.

And can I run a converter from my video cars DVI to DP?

My Card: GeForce GTX 780 Ti

That card should have a Display Port on it (at least every version I have seen does).

Current HDMI will not support 4k @ 60Hz. DP will.

And for the question above I bought a 4k samsung monitor.

You'll want to use Displayport. HDMI is trapezoidal in shape, whereas Displayport is a rectangle with a corner cut off.

DisplayPORT was Developed by VESA, and is Royalty free, (where as HDMI is not, requires 10,000 License Fee + $0.10 Per unit (Discount offered for HDMI Logo).

Used Primarily for Video, but can also carry Audio, USB, EtherNet and Numerous other Protocols. Developed to Replace VGA and DVI.

HDMI has Bandwidth Limitations until the next revision is approved.

HDMI and DVI Share the same Video transport protocol ( CEA-861 ), so you can use a HDMI->DVI Cable or HDMI->DVI Adapter without converting the video.

Where DisplayPORT must be converted.

For 4K, Use Display Port.. It has more bandwidth, uses it's own display timing clock, doesnt have issues with GFX Cards detecting them as HDTVs and Forcing overscan modes.

I made the move to All DisplayPort Connections and will never look back.

Most GFX Cards from the last 5 years either have 1 Full Size DisplayPort or 2 MiniDisplayPorts side by Side.

But that is a 1080p monitor, not 4k.

seriously - how uncomfortable do you find it to sit that close to the monitor for any extended period of time? are you growing any additional lumps on your head as a result yet?

Yes, DisplayPort is the best so far.

But HDMI 2.0 was approved and also there are high end TVs that have it already.

It can do 4K 60 Hz.

Problem is that there is no video card with HDMI 2.0 yet.

I have mine about 3 feet away. No more disorienting than a triple-wide setup in terms of FOV, actually a bit less with the far more reasonable vertical FOV (as compared to 48:9).

If you were asking me -- nope, no problem at all. It's basically just like looking at four 1080p monitors stacked together, and feels very natural.

I finally got a

up of a startup sequence using the 4K. Note that it has annotations but they only show up on non-mobile devices, so I'd recommend watching on a laptop or PC. Also, like the pictures I posted at the beginning of the thread, the video shows a serious blue tint that is definitely not there when you're sitting in front of it. I have no idea why it shows up in pictures and video.

Doesn't work with any of the Seiki's because they're limited by their own hardware to 30hz at 4K. Any of the name-brand 4K TV's should work however.

hi Greg, i order 50" 4k Seiki and it come with 4k HDMI cable. Should i order the Seiki SU4KC1 U-Vision Up Converting Cable? like this one http://www.amazon.com/Seiki-SU4KC1-U-Vision-Converting-Cable/dp/B00IE5C6LO/ref=pd_sim_e_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=14N5WKRH5TFKGX7BJZ91

Hello, HiWay. The HD 5850 doesn't support 4K, unfortunately. The upconversion cable is only good for movies and such, because it adds input lag. You want to get a newer video card. In the meantime you can run the 50" Seiki in 1080p at 120 hz. You should be able to select this from the Catalyst Control Center. If not, here is a resource: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1756171

Also, in your TV settings (with remote) turn sharpness to 0. This will make things look much better on the computer.

Post again if you need help.

While the 290s do better at 4K, I'd go with the 780 for DCS, unless you want to wait and see how AMD cards do with DX11/EDGE.

I agree with Skates. As for memory, there are only 3 and 6GB versions of the 780 out there, no 4GB.

The R9 290 (not even 290X) has an advantage over the GTX 780 at 4K resolution, but the 780 Ti is superior to both with only 3 GB of memory. If you can wait 2 weeks, I would, for the new GTX 900(reliable sources have indicated that it will indeed be the 900, instead of 800) series. It seems it will be 4GB at least. As SkateZilla and cichlidfan have pointed out, AMD DX9 drivers are underperforming at the moment, but if you need a card now I would go for an R9 290 over a GTX 780 (unless you opt for 6GB and intend to keep this for a long time).

Stay away from ati/amd gpus. They dont update their profiles for this game and if you decide to do 3d and forget about the 4k crap you will be much better off with nvidia gpus. As far as a performance stand point two gpus is better know and especially when dcs 2.0 comes out. Especially at 4k, ultrawide res or in 3d.... I would wait for the 900 series from nvidia to drop and get a card with a minimum of 4gb vid memory. Edge will love sli so i would go that route and with nvidia you can use whatever profile you want for sli to find the best performance or make your own profile. AMD shoots themselves in the foot when it comes to this game and not updating their profile arch to work better.

Just my thoughts

770 is a 680 re-badge with double the normal 2GB of VRAM,

Sorta how AMD has 3GB and 6GB 7970s (R9-280X's).
