SkateZilla Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 Load a Lower LOD (2 or 3) Version of the Model Converted to 3DS. Get Charts and data, Swap out parts w/ damaged parts, etc etc. There is a Pre-defined preset for Aerospace, if I Had $30 and knew what I was doing I'd be all over this. Exorcet Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Boy, better make sure you model is good :) And your computer. I've had some success running largish simulations on 32 GB RAM. Most of the time I've been limited to 8 GB and it really forces a small wind tunnel (at least with SolidWorks Flow Simulation). For devs really serious about getting a good flight model, this is a really good idea. If you wanted to get crazy, there are much better programs out there too. My favorite is PowerFLOW Awaiting: DCS F-15C Win 10 i5-9600KF 4.6 GHz 64 GB RAM RTX2080Ti 11GB -- Win 7 64 i5-6600K 3.6 GHz 32 GB RAM GTX970 4GB -- A-10C, F-5E, Su-27, F-15C, F-14B, F-16C missions in User Files
camsr Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Very cool, but guaranteed to increase development time over using precompiled wind tunnel data. Thanks for the links.
chaos Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 copied from another thread.... There are many programs available that can evaluate a 3D wing model and derive coefficients and crit. M numbers etc. The link below can also eval. a complete 3D aircraft model and compile the data in a nice spreadsheet. One can then fine-tune the data to match the performance graphs in the flight manual. It's a wee bit expensive but I've had my mouse cursor hovering over the 'purchase' button more than once... http://www.hanleyinnovations.com/ Incl. supersonic flight regime. RagnarDa Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 (edited) Autodesk Flow Design - 3D Virtual Wind Tunnel Tool Anyone has any experience with OpenFOAM? Edit: don't drink and forum post kids! :) Edited March 1, 2014 by RagnarDa DCS AJS37 HACKERMAN There will always be bugs. If everything is a priority nothing is.
camsr Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Anyone has any experience with OpenFOAM? Been looking at it as a way to do some other things, but it seems poorly documented and their forums are a ghost town. It would take a while to learn it.
RagnarDa Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Thanks! That's why I have been hesitant to use it. There are so many different CFD-solutions out there, surprisingly many. DCS AJS37 HACKERMAN There will always be bugs. If everything is a priority nothing is.
SilentEagle Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 To save anyone the headache, I saw this on their forums. "Currently we only have drag forces for the system as it would be in a wind tunnel which doesn't include any concept of a reaction force." In other words, this is not a tool you want to use for aircraft!
RagnarDa Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Thanks for the heads up. I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with modeling aircrafts in any CFD-solution. How about any one of you third party-devs out there? Or ED? DCS AJS37 HACKERMAN There will always be bugs. If everything is a priority nothing is.
