It's not a conspiracy theory. Just think about it - we're told to drive a hybrid, turn the lights off, not build beats PCs with a 1000 Watt PSU, pay additional carbon taxes and stuff, while the military pollutes the crap out of the planet, detonates tactical nukes in the stratosphere (each rocket that goes into space actually produces a significant gap in the ozone layer) and faces no consequences. Noone even mentions it. For all I can tell, those pics od jets not smoking that people post here, were probably photoshoped to make the USAF look green.

It's ok, I dismissed your main point as soon as you started yabbing about "fanboys". :music_whistling:

I apologize, didn't mean to offend you, if I should address you with a more specific term do let me know, I understand it is a very specialized occupation that requires a rare inclination and perseverance. It shouldn't be discarded as simple fanboyism.

Take it easy with the smoke guys, there is not enough for everyone... :D

I agree with you but this is really a thread for something else.

Smoke effect is a step forward and as GGtharos said, it may or may not (in my opinion it needs) need some additional tuning.

What I would like to ask is if there is any .lua file which contains the opacity values of smoke for each plane that we can ''play'' with.

be safe :smilewink:

Ok so, I finally got to test the the smoke with HDR OFF.

The experience is completely different and the smoke, as reported by many of you, looks quite good.

The F-15 only smokes when moving the throttle, the Mig-29 still smokes a lot which is realistic, most aircraft in fact do not smoke (E-3, A-50 etc) as opposed to HDR ON where they cast a massive smoke trail visible from miles and miles away.

So, is it a bug with HDR?

There is an obvious bug, but the more interesting question is which of the two was ED's desired effect.

being what it is, the effect with HDR OFF is all around much much better and way more realistic than with HDR on, although not perfect.

While the Mig-29 has a nice smoke, the Su-27/33 and Su-25 have basically no smoke at all with HDR off, except when moving the throttle. They could do with a bit more IMO (although not sure how smokey they are IRL).

The other aircraft could do with just a faint touch of that yellowish smoke, so that it's only visible when looking directly front/back of the aircraft on a bright background.

Anyways, I'd rather have no smoke than too much. We've lived long enough with the argument of "we won't make any sonic vapor effect because it depends on atmospheric situations", and certainly ED should apply the same reasoning here. If they can't make a realistic amount of smoke for airplanes other than the Mig-29, then just have it on the Mig-29 and leave the other aircraft alone!

Here´s a picture i took with HDR NORMAL, theres two f-15e and kc-135 at 4,5km (15k ft)

EDIT:

Turned the HDR off, and now the smoke amount and colours are much more realistic / better imo :)

That pic sums it up, it's exactly the same on my system with HDR on, and I challenge anyone to find a pic of an F-15 producing such a visible trail of smoke.

Turn HDR off and enjoy normal smokiness
