waiting for resolution ED/RAZBAM Situation Info & Discussion
aaronwhite replied to NineLine's topic in RAZBAM
While it's off topic, I know a lot of places generally are moving as far from XP as possible. Downside being, some systems, especially in healthcare, government and education were created for XP years ago and became backbones of systems that everyone's reliant on, and replacing them means finding a new solution entirely (which is super expensive and difficult) or continuing to support the XP version. I can only speak from the security perspective, but we've been doing a lot of hard work in the past few years to track down every XP system and get it off of the network, and when it's not possible, we get it as isolated as we possibly can since it's no longer being updated with security patches. -

Why do I need the "Switch side" command on a Tape Player?

Maybe this should be date restricted as Auto-reverse Walkmans didn’t arrive until 1982 -

yes it's a reel problem in multi monitor... -
Bringing this back up. With the expanded George functionality, if you're running foveated rendering without eye tracking, the George menus can be impossible to read. It was manageable before since there wasn't a lot to worry about, but now that there are search types as well as point selections, knowing what you're set to can be a real problem.

...and that's why, when you've got an instance of good design on your hands, you have an incentive to try to avoid "upgrading" it to a bad one. This very forum is a good example of exactly that happening, both with the software (Invision is a Javascript-infested crud that just about every forum I'm on "upgraded" to) and the board layout change. Good thing you can run DOS programs on Windows XP, then, which can actually be installed on modern-ish hardware. In any case, upgrades are also a risk, especially if there was some minor change that means your instrument is now a million dollar brick. Sourcing vintage computer parts might actually be easier than getting a 1990s CNC router to talk to something recent. They do it because it makes their execs more money in short term, sustainability be damned, and the cons salespeople had firmly convinced the customers that not only can they get a moon on a stick on every other Wednesday morning, it'll be so much better than the one they got last week. Hard to do with locomotives because you can't just slap a new coat of paint on an old loco and pretend it's a new model, not to mention you have to physically build the thing. The current state of affairs is largely on early techbros like Bill Gates, who sold people crap, and then sold them every fix and tweak to that crap, pretending they're groundbreaking innovations. The end result is, a bad initial product looks "innovative" because it gets constantly gets "improved" by removing holes that shouldn't have been there in first place. Nowadays it's normalized, and it's creeping into other industries like computer hardware (especially smartphones and tablets) and even cars, though at least there it's finally getting some customer pushback. Yes, with great effort and careful management, as opposed of this being an inherent property of the underlying system. That's my point, programmers like things that are flexible and general purpose, but freedom is counterproductive when it enables exploits that have to be explicitly guarded against. You can have a colander and a guy whose job is to spot and plug every hole in it, or you can have a solid metal pot. Which one is less likely to leak?

If you fire your first Maverick using the ATP, Litening, GMT or even VIS mode, the seeker of the second Maverick is stuck in the middle of the HUD. Which obviously does not make any sense. As you probably want to do a follow up shot. You can bring it back to move to the target area using TMS Down. So it goes back to where ATP, Litening, Ground moving target radar GMT or even the VIS designator is looking. Tracks for each method attached. atp.trk GMT.trk litening.trk vis.trk

Is it possible to (easily) chance DCS installation location?
silverdevil replied to ricnunes's topic in Installation Problems
hello see this video. -
i would be concerned that you cannot open your AV.

I just checked: it s not activated

RL evidence does not show anything other than f-15c action. and fine points about mode is not mentioned. the radars AN/APG-63 and AN/APG-65 are the two radars in the DCS jets.

Recomendation for New Monitor for DCS
skywalker22 replied to kmaultsby's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
ASUS ROG Strix XG32AQ. I would strongly recommend flat monitor, at least up to this width. I had curved one before, and I will never ever buy another one again. Odd feeling when looking into a curved, all seems out of phase, if you know what I mean. Btw, I bought ASUS ROG Swift PG329Q 2yrs ago, and I love it! -
First of all, I'm not sure if this is the right location to place this topic but if it isn't then sorry (and feel free to change it). Anyway, the point is I believe quite straightforward: Recently I installed a new SSD drive in my gamming PC and my DCS is still installed in a mechanical HDD drive and so my question is, is it possible to easily chance DCS location to the new SDD drive without having to uninstalling and reinstalling DCS (or any other hassle)? And if yes, how? Thanks in advance
-
As i'd mentioned in earlier posts, i've had both the Harrier and Strike Eagle since launch and I would've finally bought the Mirage 2000 but for the beginnings of disquiet between ED and RB meaning their older modules never appeared in a sale again. So yes, I do have skin in the game as and when these modules cease to work.

that may be a symptom. check windows events for anything. have you restarted your computer? also, check to see if you have fast startup enabled. depending on how you restart, the computer could still be in the same state as it was before the restart. so some problems are not rectified.

Prevent incorrect/accidental activations when using hand tracking
CougarFFW04 replied to actually_fred's topic in VR Bugs
Hi kaltokri, Thank you for your prompt response. Is the device not too heavy/bulky/intrusive with a Warthog type HOTAS? Do you have a picture of the device installed on your hand so we can get a better idea? I use the Ultraleap to interact with the cockpit of the F18. It works really well for buttons and some switches, but in the case of rotary switches, it's just a nightmare. Will this device work with the Ultraleap in the sense that if my finger aligns with a switch/rotary, the clicks or scrolling will work natively? Thank you." - Today

Sure, but this was neither TWS or RWS like the OP mentioned, and also it would be great to know if this particular encounter was a look-down and how fast was the helo flying. Nice find otherwise.

Same build here but an RTX3080, still happening.
