Yes. It's now an neverending journey. There is no going back. Be prepared for a steep learning curve in optimisation though. Luckily there is lots of support on this forum.

Yep, my design was as close to a paper approach as I could get while still being usable in VR - so although it has the slide rule, it will do the basic calcs for you as well. But no gps, everything is manual, POI, sam locations, the lot. Fixes are placed by double tapping where you think you are - so if you don't plan well with good landmarks its easy to misjudge and get lost. I've found I can comfortably get TOT within +/- 10 seconds with this approach, with or without INS (though INS more useful higher you get/more cloud cover/night - blue ticks are at 5nm (or 5km if in metric) from waypoint so you can glance down and see where you should be up to compared to INS distance to go, and purple ticks are minutes to go as planned. I was improving fix logging and got this flight through South Atlantic in a gazelle with its tablet disabled and no INS that was cool image.pngimage.png

Hi all! I have been playing DCS for 5 years on a 2D-monitor. Today I bought the Quest 3S, jumped into DCS and was completely blown away! DCS is a completely DIFFERENT game in VR, not only that you are suddenly sitting inside the cockpit, all the proportions is completely different! I have never liked or enjoyed the A-10C, but now I am IN LOVE with the A-10! This bird is HUGE in VR and the cockpit is sooo beautiful! I also jumped into the P-47 and ohh man, let me tell you, if you enjoy warbirds, you are teleported back 50 years inside the real P-47 and it looks NOTHING like on a 2D monitor! The thing is I am running a pretty crappy home computer, RTX 3080, 32 GB Ram, I5 and the most simple VR-headset a Quest 3S for 300 dollars, I am getting a solid 40-60 FPS in singleplayer even on Normandy map. This is the best spent 300 dollars in my entire life, I am NEVER going to play DCS without a VR-headset again, just doing some simple flying is 10x more fun then before

Excuse me...but I will stay with the Mustang. This bird can't stay with an Anton anymore, and if you push it...it just turns to deadstick. This bird has ruined my dreams about the Corsair...Sorry Pappy!

Please Address Game Bloat from CoreMods & Excessive Liveries
Draken35 replied to celestHawk's topic in DCS Core Wish List
My only objection to this thread is calling this content "bloatware". Poor choice of words.. Now, as for making the handful of GBs of content optional (10-15Gb if I read the OP correctly)... Is it really worth the dev time and gained complexity for such a small gain? Because, I can see the complains already for the additional bugs in the installer and because the dev are dedicating time to this and not "that" feature or the "other"... null- 28 replies

What I meant was that I could get rid of more stuff but didn't spend more time to do it - making my point for the thread topic I guess.- 28 replies

You can check your saved games/tracks folder to see if it auto saved. Otherwise, you’ll have to re-fly it. Also, there are already a few threads with this same topic. You just created another one. One of them has been open for a while and has lots of discussion. I’m betting your issue is something already experienced, discussed, and resolved. Have a look in the other threads as well. You didn’t mention opening your oil flaps, so you may have cooked the engine. That’s all I can offer at the moment based on the info you gave above.

Odd that the LS-6-250 and the LS-6-500 bombs have the same drag.

Saw the topic about Tinian Airfield Reactivation Video and figure out that it would be nice not only to flash that abandoned airfield but also to make more Transport missions with future release of C-130J. Of course it will require refueling at Midway, Wake or Sand Island? So yeah NTTR - Hawaii - Wake - Guam...

What you call "bloatware" is not. It is not unnecessary (for me, an other who had posted here at the very least) and therefore it does not match the definition of bloatware. At best, or worst, depending on the point of view, it should be optional content.- 28 replies

Just to add, weird thing is I flew the mission once with no issues and this problem cropped up once I tried to add some ordinance. I was still under gross weight so it shouldn't have been an issue. Is there any way to retrieve the track if I already shut DCS down? If not, I need to go re-fly the mission tomorrow. Thanks, LouP

Please Address Game Bloat from CoreMods & Excessive Liveries
niru27 replied to celestHawk's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Please refer to the thread title before sharing your opinion on "what is worth it" (for you). The issue is about bloat: the liveries cause a noticeable increase in storage space while not adding any meaningful value. FYI I have 2 separate installations of DCS (latest + older, more performant one with mods), so yeah it's not just about saving a few GBs, they add up and bloat the install. Don't forget they also consume extra VRAM when 4 jets next to you are using 4 different liveries. In the end, it has a net negative effect on everyone.- 28 replies

It’s a flight simulator. The liveries are just about the chief artwork in the game.- 28 replies

grim_reaper68 started following ILS bugs, status and report please.

Hi, I'm working on a full ILS usable beacons.lua file. As far as I could see, there was an issue with frankfurt main runway ILS issues, solved thanks @drPhibes, I could make Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hannover, and Berlin "secondary" runways usable, and corrected Hamburg Finkenwerder ILS issue, as the glideslope and the localizer where mixed. So If you noticed some bugs or inaccuracies on some ILS airfields, just let me know, so I can make an edited lua file , with all corrections that I could make. The file will be shared on the user files, with kneeboard files so you can choose the runway You want to land, and have the ILS informations for them. I edited also the Hahn frequencies to 111.30 for the runway 21, and 109.30 for the runway 03. Those are virtual frequencies, as at this time, I didin't found any information about the cold war period for the ILS fresuencies. I will share my work with the help of @drPhibes ASAP and keep it up to date ASAP as every update will change the original file. I saw that the devs has taken in account a lot modifications I've made, so I have a great hope of an original file that will be 100% functional over the time.

Dang...sorry to hear this for many reasons. I'm expecting my Ultrawide sometime next month...unclear if it will suffer the same fate. Hang in there!
-
Sorry I never kept one for that as I didn't expect someone to report it. I'll keep it in mind if it repeats.

I always wonder what was the story of that abandoned airfield?
-
It's already implemented. What's the problem? You don't know how your airfield looks like? How did you get there in the first place?

Hello, I would like to ask about two specific Airfields in PG map. The one I noticed on SAT picturnulle of the map - Zahedan The other one is 'no name' and I wonder what are the plans with it - info in the screenshot However Zahedan airport I noticed first on Afghanistan map and transferred the beacon info to PG which make me wonder 'How can I create Airports/AFB on a map"?null

Yeah, I basically just use paper and pencil and the F10 map, and hand calculate everything. The only thing that is really missing as far as in-game tools and data goes is fuel planning. You can either wing it using rough estimates or try and crunch through the 200 some pages of performance charts in the appendix of the IRL manual. (You don't need all of them, but it's a bit daunting at first.)
