Your talking about multiplayer or solo flight? Because the AI is pretty dumb and after a while you learn to defeat it always. If your talking about multiplayer, you have to take 2 facts: 1) Migs are dangerous and carry the best missiles in this game. 2)Migs are even more dangerous when AWACS is included in the mission. 3) all russian planes have datalink to AWACS, no american planes in LO have this. 4) not all this is realistic and has been a consequence of unforseen code flaws. with point 1 you can still deal with them because the mig still needs to lock his antenna on you to fire a BVR missile (this holds true for Su-27 and Su-33 except they dont have active radar missiles), while the F-15 can fire the AIM-120 without locking the antenna to the target (thus not giving a launch warning). Then the migs will have warning usualy when the missiles near them. with point 2 the rules change a bit. Migs are harder to spot and it is more likely that they will guess they have been fired upon if they see you on their intercept course at a given range (usualy 20 miles). time at wich they usualy turn to 1 side wich makes your missiles need to travel further than first predicted at head to head, thus falling short. They take advantage of this to shoot their R-77's wich are faster and longer ranged. Those missiles might reach you even if yours didnt. Its like holding a smaller kid by his forhead while he tries to punch you in vain but thin air. :D Against Su-27's and Su-33's the story is slightly different since they need to maintain lock while the mig can either fly off 90 degrees to you or simply do 180 and run while his missiles guide. your tactics will depend on what plane you have. But I advise you never fly f-15 down low in the hills, where russian planes will have you shot anywhere between 20 miles down to 1 by infra red missiles and sensors, not giving you warning at all, while yours wont have any greater range than that and you will always give lock warning. Point 3 will make this even worse. Theres no way I can explain everything at once so you have to try different things and expose your doubts at a time.2 points

You have no idea what you're talking about. What kind of attitude is that? Realism is a state of mind in flightsims and in terms FM and the general atmosphere of flight, Lockon is better than F3/4. F3 was a good sim but it could never hold my attention becasue I need to feel like I'm flying an aircraft .. but that's just me some are more satisfied with avionics and campaigns both of which were excellent in F3 but for me I preferred Flanker and then Lockon. One thing I'm happy about is that there are no more F3 loons coming here demanding we see flight flightsiming in their terms;... So Lockon is good sim, maybe not for everyone and Falcon was a good sim also not for everyone but there's room for both.. Just not on my hard drive ;)2 points

It seems to me Lockon:FC offers the possibility of yet another kind of gameplay, that to my knowledge is not often done. The idea is that you make a single player game, and design a tactical situation. You assign a target and a flight to use. The player then has to plan, using the mission editor, the best route, armament, fuel etc. to be able to achieve the mission goal and land safely. You then record a track proving that you can succeed the thus planned mission, and post the track together with the mission including the full mission route. It seems a kind of gameplay that could become more relevant in DCS:BS. Of course the original mission designer can put in a lot of known and hidden threats to make it somewhat though. I added an example mission to show what I have in mind. Mission Planning game.zip1 point

Kudos to Highwayman-Ed! X-man and I just flew the multiplayer version of first mission and the flight was pretty intense! Keeping visual on each other was not easy in these conditions and we went blind a couple of times and lost track of eachother between the other Su-25's and Su-17's. We focused on the solitary units, expecting them to be the SHORADs and while one of us ran it, the other kept an eye out for triple A and SAM launches. We evaded a couple of launches this way and managed to destroy our primary targets. When scouting the coast for secondary targets, the mission took another turn, as I lost an engine due to cannon fire from what proved to be an enemy Su-25. X-man joins the resulting turning fight and scores a hit with one of the R-60's (the other missed). We manage to get the bandit off my six so I can use my R-60's, but both miss as well. We end up in a gunzo fight where we are both on his six, but before we can kill him, our OSA's take him out. Due to all the adrenaline, I completely missed that I was rapidly losing fuel due to the damage, but succeed in making an emergency landing at Sochi while my remaining engine flamed out just before the threshold. Very nice and challenging mission Highwayman! S!1 point

Did this just turn into "my aircraft is worse than yours" thread? GTengineer, you should probably check Ironhand's site, it has a whole lot of very informative training videos to start with. :) http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/index.html1 point

I'll leave other to answer the other two questions. If you launch your missile and it happens to be an active, crank like you do to put the bandit on your radar gimbals and perform a vertical S (up, down, up down, yadda) to kill off the incoming missile's energy. Once your missile goes active, get below the bandit's altitude and enter the notch (put him on your 3-9) ... try to maintain corner, don't go stupid-fast. It does absolutely nothing for you in LO except when running away, or in some rushed intercepts which tend to be rare. Once you notch him, stay there until the lock warning drops. You've just trashed the bandit's missile if it was SARH, and you never needed to see where it was. No chaff needed (missiles don't see your countermeasures until they are inside 7nm anyway, so try to time when you start dispensing) If you suddenly get an ARH coming at you, put it on your beam and hopefully you'll notch it (if you remembered to set yourself up so that you can force it to look down) and pump a lot of chaff out - combine this with some high-g, out-of-plane maneuvering if the missile is close, but take care not to overspeed (you will not get max g out of the aircraft if you do) and ONLY pull max-g when you think it's the 'final moment' ... otherwise you'll find yourself floating in air like a baloon with no airspeed, ie. zero ability to dodge. Is there a way to know if a missile's still tracking you? For SARH, no. Not really if the rocket's burned out - you just can't see it. For ARH, you'll keep getting the launch warning from the missile itself. You need to figure out when, despite the warning, you can re-attack because the missile, despite locking you up, has too little energy to match your maneuver anyway. Most importantly, do not panic and perform all this stuff calmly - have a plan for how you're going to deal with it AHEAD of time and follow that plan. If you plan is wrong (or if you are unlucky) you'll get shot down. If it is because your plan was bad, adjust your plan and try again. To make what I am trying to say perfectly clear: Do not panic. Paniky, wild dodging might work occasionally, but you'll learn nothing from it and it will only serve to make you more defensive.1 point

Mission 2 is up. 09:30 November 10th 1977. This mornings strike has proceeded well, and the Red Armys armour is rolling toward the airfield at Gudauta at an impressive rate. You are required to soften up defenses just beyond the town of Gagra where the Georgian ground forces are attempting to stand in the way of our Armour. Destroy any heavy armour you can find in the town, do not concern yourself with the light vehicles. Your attack run should begin at 09:50 from waypoint 4 at Anapa after your comrades engage any light air defences in your target area. http://www.mediafire.com/?bjduv8njmmo1 point

Your supposed to treat it like all other guns--as if it were your life. The Army may be swapping back to 7.62 after a long fought out debate over the stopping power of the 5.56 NATO in CQC. It was designed to penetrate russian head gear at medium range distances, and easily penetrates bodies at close range without any substantial damage. But then again, thats why the Army has shotguns.1 point

Wrong. The A-10 has greater payload capacity. So can the A-10 - but don't blame the USAF for avoiding damage where it can by landing them on real runways ;) Again wrong. Aerial refueling and a reasonable sortie rate accomplishes the same thing where your rudimentary runway will eventually reduce sortie rate due to FoD and potential resupply issues. I'd call an A-10. Why? Big gun, big bombs, accurate ability to employ both - AND the ability to employ precision munitions as well as better ability to coordinate with the FAC.1 point

You're not alluding to the Flight Model, surely...........:) Must've been about a year or so ago I installed a particular version - specifics escape me atm - and avionics aside, the Graphics and more importantly - the Flight Model, absolutely killed me! In all honesty - Hats Off to the Falcon Community. No amount of button-pushing succeeded in capturing my interest - even for a day. The Essence of Flight - That is what I seek and Revel in. For now, I have found my fix in the Wings of the Grach.........Everything else is second best and as a consequence - not worthy :D1 point

i believe it should be: (33.4705 - 33.2254) / (800 - 1) = 0.00030676 °/pixel so that the longitude of the nth pixel from the left would work out to be: longitude_n = 33.2254 + ( n x 0.00030676) where n goes from 0 -> 799 I'm sure you've already considered this but beware of your zoom level when taking the screenshots. Hope this is correct and helps.1 point
