Hi guys. I saw some requests by the community that they wanted at least *something* before christmas showing Flaming Cliffs 2. And you know me, i don't like to give everything away all at once, so here you have a small teaser i roughly put together. More will follow later of course. And obviously, though a short teaser, everything you see is subject to change, as the clips are from an early build of Flaming Cliffs 2.0. Cheers guys! ;) Download: http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=28&file=1110&lang=en Youtube:3 points

I am now hosting a public Teamspeak 3 server that is open to anyone from DCS community who wishes to use it for co-op flights. This server is aimed at those who are not a member of any squad or wing and as such have to access to private servers, although any and all are welcome. Additional channels can be created on request, just PM/e-mail me if I'm not on the server. The rules are simple, 1. Be civil and don't insult abuse other players. 2. Not to be used for other games without prior permission 3. Not to be used by squads/wings for non public flights Server Details: Address 85.236.100.27:9997 URL http://ts3server://85.236.100.27:9997 No Password.1 point

If ED only sold 1000 copies, we would be playing tetris by now :D1 point

I was used to (simulated) civilian helos without any autopilot, trim or stabilisation systems, with tailrotor (steering cross-coupling) and I've learned flying them the hard way. Learn to hover default FS9 or XP9 JetRanger on a gusty day or fly it manually for 5 straight hours in turbulence and only then try to complain how much Ka-50 is "unfriendly aircraft" :D At first I was shocked how Ka-50 was at the same time pefectly stable and easy to hold in one place, while a real pain to maneuver. But after some time I've "adjusted" myself to its characteristics, exactly as was advised by many sources, only to find it is a very agile and pleasant aircraft to fly. It's easier to control than Cessna 172 :) The key to success is to understand how the machine works and to work along with her. It's all about flying the way the helicopter does want to, instead of making the helicopter fly as we want it to do. To the point. I fly with all 4 AP buttons, for the most of the time without FD. When I want to change speed, heading or flightpath, I simply press the dreaded trim button, then manually stabilise helo on new attitude, and release trim button when I'm happy with the results. Simple and effective way of combining easy cruising with high combat/aerobatic agility. For the most of the time it works really good and (now) intuitive. Often I find cruising well-trimmed helo more useful, than enroute AP, because I'm not limited to only 6 INS waypoints. For that few occasions I can't constantly hold trim, I engage FD and throw the crate all over the sky with ease. For everyone tired of pressing one button, I have the following thoughts. First, when flying correctly, with a plan in your head, you barely need to perform dramatic maneuvers, so there is no real need to hold the trimmer all the time. When attacking, set up carefully and the rest is easy. When dodging that MANPAD, you really need only two buttons: trim and flares, and since you have two hands, you've got all you need in such situation (it can be performed even on a simple stick with at least two buttons, no need for HOTAS right away, just a little bit of imagination when configuring the buttons). Second, my real-life aviation manual says about proper flight technique: stabilise attitude and speed and always trim - then re-trim and re-trim and re-trim to maintain that attitude. After major change in flight conditions, like shift from climb to cruise, stabilise in new attitude, trim and re-trim and re-trim and re-trim to maintain that new attitude. And so on. Trim even on traffic pattern and approach. Trim while holding. Always trim - it's a kind of mantra. The point is that you need only quick press to stabilise/correct aircraft attitude and then you release and let the helo fly itself. Again, no need to hold it for a long time. Want to perform aerobatics -> turn FD on. Third. Come on, you've bought a serious simulation (not a weekend game!) with a manual of over 500 pages and now you complain about pressing one button? Maybe PacMan would be a better choice - no buttons to press at all :P Or try arcade mode. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I remember, there is a similar "panic button" on F-16. It's a pinkie switch, which works as a temporary AP disable, to correct maintained attitude, as well as a mean to save the aircraft, if AP tries to do something weird while flying at low level in terrain following mode. I recall no one complaining about it - instead of keeping it pressed, you disengage AP and fly manually. It's that simple. Fourth, like was said earlier, most of the helicopters with force trim work like that. Press to change attitude and release to maintain it or use a "chinese hat" - it depends on which system was installed on a particular helo. ED made a fantastic job of simulating power timming method on desktop josticks. Beat it - Ka-50 (and any other helo) is very different from any jetfighter. Old tricks doesn't work here, you need to learn completely new set of skills, but in the end that's exactly, what flying various sims is about. To learn and better understand. Of course no one will get mad, if you fly it whatever way you like, instead of trying new things.:joystick: I've tried flying without even touching trim button, without any and all of 4 AP channels and so on and I have to say, that it's simply a no-go. Unrealistic, tiring and dangerous for your virtual-self ;)1 point

Don't give in GA. This is in fact the perfect teaser... "tease" the viewers. Teasers usually contain little, if any, actual footage from the film or game. Make them want more, but don't give in. BTW, nice teaser!1 point

Funny you should say that, my stepdad's one was an ex funeral car. We were even given flowers and condolences while travelling home after coming home from holiday in it! lol1 point

Of course, you are entitled to your own opinion. Just as others are entitled to theirs. You'll find a number of us on here that have a philosophy that goes something like this: 1. Glowing Amraam wasn't obligated to show us *anything*. 2. Some folks in the community asked for *something* for Christmas. 3. GA threw some clips together from his work in progress, polished it up nicely, and put it up. He clearly indicated that it was a teaser, a little something to whet the appetite. 4. We see that as GA did something nice. Many of us appreciate *that*. 5. We see complaining about how 'it wasn't enough' as counter-productive. Why say anything that would possibly steer GA, or anyone else contemplating an offering to the community, toward thinking, 'well screw it, it will just lead to people complaining'? I appreciated his work, and taking the time to give us a teaser. I even gave him a good natured poke back. I want to see people encouraged to do such things, and remain mindful that they didn't have to do anything at all. Why someone would say something discouraging/unappreciative in such circumstances is, frankly, a bit puzzling.1 point

21 seconds of 37 seconds movie are credits. Is this any kind of joke?1 point

You pay for what you get...don't buy an SSD just to get an SSD. If you buy the cheapest, well its not going to be much faster than a standard hard disk. Bottom line, go on NewEgg..read reviews with a grain of salt and compare transfer rates/price. You don't have to get the fastest intel drive for $700.00 to notice a difference either. I bought a Corsair P128 for about $285.00 6 months ago (prices have gone up) It is blazingly fast loads Windows in seconds and load times for DCS were cut in half. The single Corsair P128 was more than twice as fast as my previous setup of 2 - 10K RPM WD Raptors in RAID. It is only a 128 gig hard drive but I dont have tons of games installed so it really doesnt matter. I store all my music, photos and downloads on a secondary SATA drive where performance doesn't really matter because its just storage. Overall I'm extremely happy with the purchase. It is an upgrade where you can actually "feel" the difference. Never looked back or regretted my purchase. The only downside is that any time I use someone else's PC its agonizingly slow.1 point
