  2. The vanilla toad is really one delight of an aircraft to fly: slick & fast, in no way the falling brick that the hunchback froggy has become. To my mind, it is also not at all a CAS aircraft like we understand this in NATO, where close coordination with a JTAC is essential and most interventions now have become precision strikes. The toad is more in for a robust "Russian" approach, in fact typical "ground attack", where you simply unleash the goodies from a dive on something that looks fair enough to an enemy party, like the venerable Phantom would have done ages ago. Here's my question: what's your favourite load to unload? What I like to load is: - 2 * B-8 4*RBK-250 2 * MBD-2-67U*4 FAB-100 - 2 * B-8 4*Kh-25ML 2 * MBD-2-67U*4 FAB-100 - 2 * S-25 4* FAB-250 I really like Kh-25 against moving targets, since in the Su-25 you can very precisely keep the pipper on the target; you just have to see that the missile can follow aerodynamically. I'm not very good with the gun though, and I reckon it will be even harder in FC2?

  6. Yep. Pay to play, like cable TV. And you wont own any titles. And if the trend gets fashion your hardware will be reduced to a mere server terminal. It has a destructive potential on many genres. Great for fast mindless trigger puller kidds, but the rest of us will be left out.

  9. You release it on a cable and you tow it maybe 0.5nm or 2nm (I forget the length of the cable) behind and below the plane. You can only do gentle maneuvers while it is being deployed but more when towed. Another plane will lock onto it and try to gun it; a set of microphones inside the dart will hear and count the near misses from the rounds and tell you how good your gunnery is. In general it is used to actually practice firing the gun against an airborne target. I'm also including the limitations of use according to the F-15 -1 manual. 'bal' means 'basic aircraft limits'. http://www.mdswebmaster.com/UK/MDS2008/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=357&Itemid=219

  11. The reason Mark isn't commenting anymore is that his job is over. He got the product out and well known in the flightsim community, we trashed it and the horrible lack of support that they provide there isn't much more he can do for the G940 in any real sense and he's not ever going to have a honest dialogue about the project and it's shortcomings. The 5.09 release has been hinted at for quite some time, the win7 shift BSOD is enough to merit this, what is really worrying is that in his post CB stated that they were compiling a bug list, so 6 months down the road they're still only compiling a bug list. WTF they should be finalising the 5.09 software by now so we're still looking at least another 3-6 months before we'll get 5.09. And secondly the software engineer who is tasked 5.09 is female need I say more.

  16. This is more like learning to drive a car, you need to be at least a bit hands-on doing it for real to experience it early on (and how things interact around you, like wingmen who have kamikaze tendencies..). Can't just learn to play by chords and scales. Watch all the producer note videos, if you have the DVD, locate the folder there with them on since they're all present in a good quality and you can pause/rewind/etc. easily. They're a great insight. The training missions are OK too, but I didn't labour on them too much and even skipped a couple first pass through (we need to have fun as well as the theory right). Give this a go too, it's a handy walkthrough with some target practice and more thrown in: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2626185/1.html For myself, I then started a campaign for a few missions to get more of a feel for things in the wild, and got by just with the LWIN + HOME / LWIN + END cheatsheet methods for startup and shutdown. Now I'm going back to some of those original training missions again to refine certain things, learning how to start the beast up properly/manually, things like that. It's not exactly been a textbook approach to learning, but it's been fun and I feel like I'm developing along the way sufficiently which is rewarding by itself. I mostly use the manuals as a reference though some swear by going through it page by page (Strongharm seems to be a good example of that, whilst he hasn't been playing any longer than I, his grasp of the mechanics and methods was higher/faster than mine). I just needed to have a balance to keep me sane, and if I was to start over again, I'd not regret repeating it the same way. I don't think there's any one really right way, it is something you can enjoy at your own pace. Last tip; I'd suggest grabbing the program/mod/addon called Tacview and installing it. Early on there'll be a number of "wtf happened there" moments, and aside from having a track file you can replay, it can sometimes be a clearer set of events seen on a tacview recording -- particularly if you stumbled into the wrong place at the wrong time, I learnt a lot about AA threat capabilities from that (first with lockon, not so much with blackshark, but it works well for both).

  17. Don't mean to start a holy war, but many achievements like the first satellite, the first man in orbit, first lunar lander, first lunar orbiter, first Venus impact probe etc. belong to USSR. So this is a little against truth. As for the topic - my opinion is it is wise decision. In addition to Hajduk's words, if one has 35 years of technology advancement - there's no reason to stick with 1965's concepts. There is quite a handful of promising concepts - SSTO's as example. Lockheed Martin had major advancements in the X-33 program - I think, it's a good direction to dig. At least, for the beginning.

  21. I'd love flying the Su-25A. There is something nostalgic about it when you compare it to the A-10 and Su-25T. In LockOn I feel its the only aircraft that it feels like you are flying. You don't have a hud, you have to keep looking at the gauges, you have no advanced avionics display information. Its just gauges and what you can see. Its all pilot skill, you lack all of the extra features of the other aircraft. Its quite astonishing how different it is to fire a Kh-25ML at a target between the 25A and 25T. You get much more satisfaction and joy out of hitting the target with the 25A.

  22. Short answer: You determine N/S or E/W by preceding the digits of the coordinate with a + or -. If you look to the left of the main lat/long fields you'll see there are little circular indicator lights. They display a "+" or "-" and are considered part of the value in the field to the right. Your first digit (0 or 1) determines whether the light is a "+" or a "-". You'll also notice that the 0 and 1 keys themselves have the + and - symbols on them along with the digit. The convention with the PVI-800 is Northern latitudes are positive so +45° would be 45°N and -45° would be 45°S. West is negative and East is positive for longitude.

  23. Hi everyone, I want to present you a tool, I made. Download: http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=32&file=1126 http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=188&lid=1671&title=LockOn%20Launcher#dldetails This Tool helps you to manage different LockOn/BlackShark installations. It also gives you the Option, to set the Resolution, the Affinity, the Nickname and more. The Tool also allowes you to start different Programs like Teamspeak,Ventrilo, TrackIR, RAZ and one Program you may add by yourself. If you use a Saitekcontroller, you also can change you Profile with the Launcher. So the Tool makes it very easy to handle all the Stuff you need for flying LockOn or Black Shark. If you use XP you need to install Microsoft .NET Frameworks 3.5 first. Vista and Win7 User don't need to install it. The Launcher supports differnt Languages. At the moment there are English and German.

  24. COMMON PROCEDURE: Navigating in AIR FIELD Task Mode with Route Switch On 1. Illuminate AIR FIELD task light on the PVI-800 panel. 2. Select point number of task point desired (1 is departing airfield, 2 is arriving airfield if different from one.) 3. Place DH/DT switch in position DH or position DT, behavior is the same. 4. Move route-descent switch to ROUTE position to engage autopilot behavior. COMMON PROCEDURE: Navigating in NAV TGT Task Mode with Route Switch On 1. Illuminate NAV TGT task light on the PVI-800 panel. 2. Select point number of task point desired (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 0) 3. Place DH/DT switch in position DH or position DT, behavior is the same. 4. Move route-descent switch to ROUTE position to engage autopilot behavior. COMMON PROCEDURE: Navigating in WPT Task Mode with Route Switch On 1. Illuminate WPT task light on the PVI-800 panel. 2. Select point number of task point desired (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6) OPTION 3a. Place DH/DT switch in position DH to travel point directly to each task point. 3b. Place DH/DT switch in position DT to travel along route lines between points 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, and 5-6. 4. Move route-descent switch to ROUTE position to engage autopilot behavior. Note: WPT Task Mode with Route Switch On is the only task mode that will automatically change the task point to the next; 1 to 2, 2 to 3, 3 to 4, 4 to 5, and 5 to 6. After task point 6 the autopilot will fly in a straight line. Note: Any of the above procedures with the route-descent switch in the OFF position will give visual HSI, ADI, and HUD navigation cues but the autopilot will not attempt to fly the helicopter to the task point. Instead it will be the pilot's job to follow the visual indications.
