As a native (Queen's) English speaker, I have to disagree. Generally, I think the manual does a decent job - and I find complaining about a few minor spelling errors rather petty. The Ka-50 is a pretty complex aircraft, and most of that complexity is captured in the simulation. Writing a manual for such a thing is a much larger effort than I think most of us realize. ED's products aren't perfect, but they are by far the most sophisticated and realistic combat flight simulators on the market. And - more importantly - ED has shown an ongoing, long-term commitment to developing the platform further. I have difficulty understanding why anybody should believe that ED is unresponsive to sensible and constructive criticism. Alledging that this is because they are Russian is also pretty egregious. Gents, think about it. You are getting a state-of-the-art flight simulator for the price of a couple of pizzas - and then complaining about trivial problems.3 points

I was inspired by DickDastardly's profile for Touch Buddy, to go out and get a touch screen monitor. Unfortunately for my free time I was not satisfied since none of the indicators on the touch screen kept in sync with those in the virtual cockpit. Touch Buddy didn't seem to allow for the simulation to update button states, so I set about writing my own. I have finally got to a point where I think it's ready for other people to try it out. I am open sourcing the code and I have created a google code site and will be updating documentation on how to create your own profiles and the network protocol that TouchPal uses to communicate with the simulation. I've created a profile based on DickDastardly's TouchBuddy graphics, but made it fully synced with the virtual cockpit. The only item I could not extract from blackshark was the PVI-800 LED read out. Otherwise as soon as the simulation connects TouchPal will set all switches it displays to the values of the mission, and will reflect changes based on both clicking on the touch screen or using in game controls. Step 1 - Download TouchPal TouchPal-0.4.zip Extract it to where every you want it. This is the application itself and the xsd which describes the configuration files. Step 2 - Download Blackshark Profile TouchPal-Blackshark-2-0.zip Create a folder called TouchPal inside your My Documents folder and extract this file into that directory. You should end up with a TouchPal directory containing a blackshark directory, touchpal.xml and Export.lua. Step 3 - Backup & Copy Export Backup your existing Export.lua located in the Config/Export directory underneath the install folder for Blackshark. Once you have backed it up copy the the Export.lua file contained in the TouchPal directory created by Step 2 into the Config/Export directory. Step 4 - Customize Layout Open touchpal.xml in the TouchPal directory created by Step 2 in your favorite text editor. Locate the Layout section. The X, Y, Width and Height values here represent where you want the touchpal window to open. X and Y should be set to the top left of your touchscreen monitor. <Layout> <X>1920</X> <Y>0</Y> <Width>1024</Width> <Height>768</Height>Limitations This is a first release of TouchPal so there are a few limitations. I hope to resolve all of them over time. Feel free to have a look at the code and send me any patches to fix them. TouchPal will not scale graphics. The profile I have uploaded is 1024x768. TouchPal does not have any UI to select between multiple profiles. TouchPal does not have any client/server capability, it is designed to run on the same machines as the game. Step 5 - Setup Multi-monitor Follow the directions in this excellent post to setup the ABRIS and shkval at the appropriate locations. Important! This setup REQUIRES patch 1.0.1. The Export.lua which gets data from the simulation uses functions that where not available until the patch. Mr Dastardly let me know if you have an issue with my using your graphics and I'll take it down.1 point

Hello I'm currently developing a plugin for Teamspeak3 and DCS:BS to have automatic radio functionality. The Plugin will automatically switch the TS3 channels according to the seetings in BS. It will take care of power switches and I'm planning also to calculate distance und terrain limitations (which is not yet tested). So far everything is running well, except for one problem - so I have one or two questions, maybe there is someone around who can help me. 1. Question I'm requesting the radio settings in the export.lua as described in the wiki: http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Export_1_0_1 The problem is, that when I change the frequency of the R828 (red rotary knob on the right side), the value in the export.lua is not changing. For the R800 the code is working as expected (of course I changed the device id). The "isOn" and "soundIsOn" state is working for both devices as expected. Below I stated shortly how I'm accessing the data. local radioDevice = GetDevice(<radio device id>) local state = radioDevice:l_get_state() local myfrequency = state.frequency Maybe I have to define the frequencys somewhere in config files (maybe similar to the NDB's), but I found nothing? 2. Question It not directly a problem, because I found a (not so good) workaround, but does anybody know a way how to request the state of the SPU9-Intercom Switch (Channelselector: VHF1/VHF2/SW/Ground)? I found some code in the script files, but this did not helpe me much. 3. What is your general opinion about such a plugin? Do you like it, or is it useless? Do you have more ideas? Thanks for your help in advance Pixel Sorry for bad english :(1 point

I have been given information and sample source code from ED on how to download the master server list. I have also been allowed to share this, though I will be restrictive since it can be abused. What can we do with this? We can create a server browser with chat and a built in mod manager. How does this help? This browser will show the same server list as the ingame one, but users will automatically be asked if they want the browser to auto-download and install the required modifications or "default files" to play on a server. This ensures everyone is on a level playing field but also prevents cheating, since every server can have their own integrity check profile, without the hassle of pilots having to switch files before joining another server. Consider it an automated version of the debated "community mod pack". Better yet: Servers can have new aircraft, missiles, sensors, views, flight models YOU NAME IT profiles, and it will all go seamlessly between all integrity checked servers - and everyone will have the same. (It also solves the problem with Tacview working, but live-tacview wont) Best of all: It wont break anything for those that want to integrity check the absolute stock setup, in fact it will help them, since the browser will "auto-revert" when finished playing on a modded server (or when joining a standard one). When? I hope everyone reading this that are interested will ask around for people knowledgable in C/C#/C++ programming (.NET also!), especially network programming and GUI programming. We will need to develop this from scratch and make it very simple, so we need to set up a team for this project so we can get it finished ASAP :).1 point

The incredible thing is that I'm Joe Nobody and had my questions regarding campaign structure and how to make a mission tree answered by devs directly, including the man himself, Matt Wagner. Maybe it's because I didn't start off my questions with "Hey, listen here, jerks..." and they were clearly defined in purpose and open ended for solutions. As Bugs Bunny would say, "what a maroon." And btw, you're missing something in the mission build. Populate the FARP with all the goodies and you'll get this:1 point

no hard feeling , but it seems to me that you have misunderstood what the problem of falcon4 FM is. Let me try to explain. First thing to understand is that a fligth model (and generally any motion model) is 1) a model that computes forces and torques applied on the model 2) A routine that solves the 6 dof motion equations taking as input the forces and torques and giving as output the speeds, rot speeds, accel and rot accels. In the specific case of Flight model, the forces and torques are generally dependant on motion itself (i.e Speed, AOA, BEta etc...) which make the differential equation of motions beeing of the second order (or more) and coupled. Aditionnaly, the aero forces are very often dependant on several parameters, for instance , CL (adimensional coefficient for Lift) is dependant on AOA and Speed...(approximation). From that you have two options: 1) you decide to have a linearisation of the forces and torques with some of the parameters , CL (mach, alpha) , CD (mach, alpha) etc...which means you have TABLES of coefficients. 2) you try to calculate the forces and torques by using complete resolution of Navier stokes equations (not applicable for simulation) or using simplified aero equations (Xplane for instance). The solution (1) is in 99% of the case the one chosen in fligth simulation (including pro simulation)because it allows the best precision and is very fast. Aditionnaly in some extreme cases, all the coefficients static and dynamic are available wether from real wind tunnel testing, wether from complete NS calculation (not done in RL time). SO when you have a complete desciption of the forces and torques, then you can solve the equations of motions, which is not a big deal because it is hopefully simplified in coupled equations of the 1st order and can be solves by algo like Runge Kutta... Now what is the problem of falcon4 ? well falcon4 has two major flaws : 1) The only aero data that are available for the model are CL/CD and thrust (partial CY as well) ..nothing about Cl,Cd, Cn (torque coefficients) ,and the dozens of other aero coefficients for specific cases (LEF/ TEF, Sb, etc...). Aditionnaly those aero coefficients in F4 are NOt dependant on the position of the controls and they are not dependant either on Beta. TO summarize: the problem of the data does not come from the fact they are tabular , it comes from the fact that they are not exhaustive and not dependant on vital parameters. 2) there is not resolution of the equations of motions, in fact the position of the GC is computed by Euler integration, but the rotation in the x,y,z axis are not computed but are generated from a FLCS code routine... It means that the position of the AC is somehow independant from the rotation motion. In fact , AC is calculated as if it was a dot and rotation is calculated by scripts routines corresponding more or less of what the FLCS is supposed to do. As a conclusion: * dont believe using tabular data is wrong, because it is the best thing to do for real time simulation. It is very bad when you have only 1000 values, but when you have 1 000 000 of them (that can come from Wind tunnel testing or NS computation), then it is much better than any approx aero Real Time computation * the "FM on rail sensation" comes from those two flaws * Of course, real equation of motion solver would be the first step to make falcon4 FM react as a FM....but that would demand hell of a work and probably a complete rewrite of the FM code and integration in F4 code, which would be IMHO very diffcult. NOTA : As far as edge pass is concerned for the F16 , it is possible to hold it under very specific circonstances which is a very low fuel amount (<1000 lbs) . Indeed, in that case, most of the "lift" is not produced by the tail itself , but by the Engine thrust that is angled at around 8 / 10 degrees. If the speed is sufficient when entering the manoeuver, the combination of thrust/ low weight and "Lift" generated by tail + fuselage is sugfficient to allow the AC to hold it. In that specific case, the FLCS does not restrain the Yaw imput of the pilot because speed is >250 kt and AOA is low1 point

Just to keep ruling things out I tried 104th again last night with minimum apps/services running (i.e not loading TS etc. and also removed DirectX.cpl just for test) - 19 processes running at OS boot - but no go, got CTD's twice. Numbers of players (network traffic/chat/events?) seems to play part - I CTD faster if server is crowded, keyword is "seems" since this issue is damn random it's hard to say for sure and I could be wrong. Also talked with some friends (will try to get them to post here) that tried MP on 104th and in our little "group" 3 out of 5 got same/similar CTD's in FC2/BS while on 104th server. More tests will follow, hopefully tonight when I get back home... /KC1 point

It is possible, but every squad has a different opinion on what needs to be checked and what doesn't need to be checked. We need a common mod pack that has extra code to allow flexibility in what mods to allow or deny. The ideal solution would be for Eagle Dynamics to make a small change to the integrity check and network.cfg file that contains which file to check. Simply put allowing "alternate" versions of the same file would be the perfect solution. For example with export.lua, several copies of export.lua are placed on the server. Each is slightly different. For a server that allows for tacview and eri: The first file that it checks is a default export.lua if it fails the integrity check it goes to the next one, which has tacview enabled if that fails it goes to one that has just ERI enabled if that fails it goes to the next one that has tacview and ERI As a result it keeps the security risk down of not automatically downloading the export.lua file, but it adds flexibility to what is and isn't allowed, but also is very user friendly. I believe the amount of *work* it takes for a player to join a server should be minimal and virtually non-existent. User friendliness is the most important aspect of any changes made. Yes the server admins must keep up with the times for what mods are popular and what files they use, but most of us are active enough in the communities to know whats going on. But if we can make a community mod pack that does use added files to essentially accomplish the same thing, I'd be game.1 point

Well, you could launch an illumination flare, on a trigger, the "illuminating bomb" or w/e it's called. Also, isn't there some way of making the FARP ATC turn on the lights around the pads? If you call for takeoff don't they turn them on? I donno, I never contact them, it's useless usually to do so. Also, even on very dark nights in DCS, you can still vaguely see the cockpit switches, unless your room is too bright and/or your monitor is too dark. You can fumble around till you manage to hit one of the batteries on, and then activate the cockpit light over your left shoulder, or hit the NVG lighting on. I have a youtube video where I do this: 1 point

Playing around with Y SAT values affects it for sure. With Y SAT at 100% there is no difference in STAB deflection between Full backstick and Full backstick and full up elevator trim. The end point or limit is max Stab deflection.... i.e mechanical limit. However if you reduce Y SAT to say 80% then Full Back stick gives a reduced Stab deflection, by then winding in Full up elevator trim you get the additional movement till the end position is again Full Stab deflection. So setting a reduced value of y SAT limits Stab deflection with Full back stick but you can still get Full Stab deflection by winding in Full trim Getting back to the FM affect though. If you can pull Limit AOA and limit G with 80% Y SAT is that not enough ? In the AOA side of the house I cant see any valid reason to exceed max AOA as Drag goes over the roof and departure is likely and over the AOA limit I don't think you are going to see any rate increase either. There is a case for being able to pull more G in circumstances like avoiding the ground or if you need more rate to defeat a threat. That you can do in Hornet (since its only G limited with 33% Override available)though in an F16 once you reach the AOA or G limit thats it you are stuck there. Its the slow speed regime where all this comes to the fore.1 point
