I don't like a lot the way that integrity check is implemented. In my opinion, something like this could be done by ED: Instead of a integrity check, there could be a MD5check of export.lua. Then compare that MD5 to a allowed list of MD5 codes. If MD5 code is in list -> legit export.lua If MD5 code not in list -> send your export.lua to the admin of the server so he reviews it and the adds to his allowed MD5 list if your export is legit. Each file on your system have a unique MD5 code, so there could be a perfectly safe list of allowed MD5's. I tried to do it myself with .lua but the integrity check is inside the core game files (totally understandable) but anyway, this is not a difficult thing to implement, there are some examples on internet on how to check a MD5 with C++ and should not take a lot of time to implement (I already done it on C# in 1 afternoon)3 points

Empty scenario that contains up to 107 real life navigation waypoints for Georgia already added to your CDU on any mission created over this template mission. It includes: All relevant waypoints for the IFR approaches of Batumi UGSB, Tiblisi-Lochini UGTB, Kopitnari/Kutaisi UGKO. Includes also all VFR entry and departure points for those airports. It also includes all published RNAV points for the Lower and Upper Routes inside Georgia airspace. The waypoints are named as in real life and those Radio Navigation Stations are named after their indicative. From now on and using real life charts you can use to the maximum your CDU, creating SID, route flight plans, STARS and even some IFR approaches. Open this mission on your mission editor and create your own mission on top of it. You will observe many navigation points on it but not all of them. For some reason, you cannot visualize all the stored waypoints on the map, but they are there. I promise you :music_whistling: Do not delete those points or they will be lost on your CDU database. This template works for singleplayer and multiplayer missions. Just "Save as" with a different name after adding your vehicles and aircrafts. You will observe in some airports and charts that waypoints are slightly displaced from their real life location. I have used that actual real life coordinates but for some reason there is some slight difference between RL and DCS Caucasus map, no really much but noticiable enough if you look closer. To make use of it, it is very simple. Imagine you want to fly the Tbilisi-Lochini VOR apporach, but we all know that there are no VOR on the actual scenario. Go to your CDU and select as steerpoint the TBS/DVOR and you have now on your HSI, bearing and distance to that station. If you like it more complex, before take off, take your real life charts and create a new flight plan on your CDU containing the SID, route, STAR and IFR approach waypoints for your flight. :pilotfly: Soon to be available on the User created downloads page (I hope) On the meantime you can get it from here. I hope to release soon the "Russian side" of the Caucasus scenario Airnav Template.miz1 point

I thought I would release the beta version of my airfield diagrams for DCSW as the charts are at the point where I need to print a copy and then work my way through the airfields to get the rest of the detail right. The radio frequencies, elevations, directions and measurements should be accurate with the mission editor the F10 view and the A10C's internal MAGVAR. I'll do the release as a separate thread to the design discussion to avoid the release getting lost in that thread. I'm working through tower placement and taxiway labelling in addition to points of interest however a lot of the Russian airfields dont have the taxiways labelled which complicates the matter, I'm thinking it may be worth waiting until the DCS release prior to revisiting this. I've also added references to the ADF's from the BS manual and if the interest is there I will release a Russian air force version with Metric measurements once the maps are finished. If anyone picks a bug or has some reference notes for the airfields let me know. UPDATE: Updated airfield name plus some error corrections For those of you printing this, I recommend printing in color to A5 directly, as the map lines blend better in color then gray-scale, however you can print 2 per page on A4/letter Airfield Diagrams.pdf1 point

A fictional Canadian Forces skin pack for DCS A-10C. Version 1.0.0.0 Notes: Contains two skins for each Canadian squadron currently in DCS A-10C, a two-tone grey, inspired by the current CF-18 Hornet paint scheme, and one all-over low vis grey scheme as worn by many tactical CF aircraft over the years. Each skin has authentic squadron tail art, and is finished in authentic CF paint colours and marking styles. These skins also use the game's serial generator for the last two digits, I used 1317xx for commonality with the fictional "Green Pixel" camo A-10C already in the game. Extras: 1) Spelling errors in Canadian squadron section of logbook corrected, due to space limitations, 439 "Sabre-Toothed Tiger" squadron was shortened to 439 "Tiger". Apologies to 424 squadron 2) New "Operational" squadron shoulder patches to replace the heraldic badges already in game. Any fighter pilot worth his salt will tell you that heraldic badges, although perfectly ok for blue blazers, are too snooty for flight suits. Less formal operational patches show esprit de corps and individual squadron flair, as well as history and tradition. 3) Canadian Pilot Textures: Canadian OD flight suit textures on both the cockpit pilot and the ejected pilot (different 3D models). Individual squadron patches can be chosen within the installer. Due to ED using a single pilot texture file for all A-10C pilots you can only have one type of pilot skin active at a time. However, if you would like to change your pilot to a different squadron simply run the installer again and choose a new pilot skin. You can even pause the game, ALT-TAB out, run the installer, go back into the game and your pilot will be different. Takes about 30 seconds. Known issues/shortcomings: There is an error with the serial number generator in DCS A-10C, any 7 will appear as a 6. Hopefully this will be corrected in a patch. Canada puts the whole six digit serial on the tail, and the last three digits of the serial on the nose and wings. As DCS A-10C is coded right now you can only put numbers on the nose, tail, and main wheel fairings, so the wings are missing the "Buzz Numbers". Unable to put flight suit patches or the left arm pocket on the ejected pilot skin as it uses a mirrored texture for both arms. Credits: Textures by jocko417 Installer by Bonedust (Big Thanks!) I made a card a little while back in excel while I was overseas with some extra time on my hands. I just got around to converting it over to PDF. I know WarriorX has a nice one out there that I use from time to time also. This one just allows me a little more space for JTAC information. Figured I would post so folks can use at their choosing if they need one. It's probably a rough version as I haven't got around to getting online with it in multiplayer to see if I covered everthing that I might want for a flight. Enjoy... Mission Data Card.pdf1 point

Here is my latest singleplayer mission, "The Bear Came Over the Mountain". Some of you might have played a Beta version; thanks for your help with tracking down the crash bug to my system settings. The attached, "Final", version has improved timings, altered JTAC tasking and, above all, detailed, tactical voice comms for player, OP commander and Stryker leader roles. To summarise: - This is a half-hour sortie that starts in the air, at Angels 20. - The player leads a 2-ship tasked with escorting a Stryker convoy en route to defend an isolated Blue Observation Post that is under threat from an imminent Red armored assault. - The mission was inspired by footage of A-10s supporting infantry in mountainous terrain in Afghanistan; this battle takes place around a contested valley pass in the Caucasus mountains. - Ground combat is plotted in some detail (driven partly by the player's actions) with a 26-man Stryker team named individually after the mission author's high school classmates. Tips: - Use your wingman, both for datalink target i/d and target prosecution. - Respect the SA-9 engagement envelope - Maintain SA of targets, and prioritise. Threat prioritization is the tactical "essence" of the mission. There is an early decision point and either choice you make will have consequences. - At exactly 30 minutes from mission start you will receive a Success/Fail message from ground units via radio. - Accomplishing all mission goals is relatively easy for the intermediate-to-advanced DCS A-10 pilot but avoiding all Blue casualties amongst ground forces is not. There is one way to approach the mission goals that, if properly executed, will result in a Blue victory with zero friendly casualties. - The mission rewards competent use of both Mavericks and CBUs while under threat. - Use of JTAC is optional. The Predator is helpful under certain circumstances. - Make sure you alter the incorrect default NET settings in the TAD screen to 01/01 so that datalink works properly for both JTAC and wingman data. In general I do not intend to build scenarios in the ME that start in the air, or even on the runway, being a bit of a purist, but glitches in AI flight members' behavior on takeoff and climbout have frustrated my attempts at ground launched missions and I await the next patch to address this. In the meantime, as I say, this mission is a good half-hour workout in Maverick and CBU deployment, JTAC and wingman interaction and tactical threat prioritization. Good luck, have fun and please post comments. (Thanks go to WarriorX, Apples and Audacity for realistic voice comms) The Bear Came Over the Mountain_Final.miz1 point

Salutations, I finally took the plunge this evening, and downloaded/installed A-10C, and I must say I am quite impressed. It definitely builds upon Black Shark and takes things to a higher level. That said, for now all I've done is the startup training and do some random landscaping in instant action mission (those Warthog-shaped furrows are quite feng-shui, if you ask me), and for now I am working having the manual printed and obtaining the HOTAS Warthog (neither of which was wise to do before ensuring the sim actually worked on my PC *grin*). As such, I do have a couple of questions: - How does the HOTAS Warthog integration go? Do I simply unplug my old stick, plug in the HOTAS, and when I load the game the controls will be set? - This is probably just a trimming issue, but is it normal that the 'hog wants to roll to the right all the time? I am guessing it is due to take-off trim or some such, and I do not (yet) know how to set trim, but I just want to make sure it is not due to some strange control issue. And that is all for now. I am thoroughly impressed, and I certainly appreciate the more interactive training missions. :) Thank you. Itkovian1 point

Note for implementers: A simple MD5 check is not a good idea as space or comments will make the file fail, even if the LUA compiles to the same result. Any MD5/hash checks should be done *after* LUA comments have been stripped out and all whitespace normalized so that all whitespace tokens (space, tab, newline etc) are converted to a single space and *then* the hash is computed. This allows people to leave comments in their LUA scripts and still pass the Integrity Check. For example, it is useful to comment in and comment out the dofile() include for TacView so that you can easily enable and disable TacView depending on whether you want to: * join an Integrity Checked server with exports disabled (eg. 104th, 51st), * or play a track and generate a TacView, or join a server where TacView is enabled (eg stallturn). In fact, I had to modify the latest version of the lottu track playback program to add and remove the TacView include, since commenting it out would cause the Integrity Check to fail. AFAIK Case's track playback script also has the same functionality, so you can use that and still pass Integrity Checks. So: * a bitwise comparison using a hash (eg. MD5, SHA-1 etc) is not good. * a parseable text comparison is good (eg. calculate the hash after stripping comments and normalizing whitespace).1 point

HawgTouch doesn't support PDF's. HT main goal is to consume the least amount of memory from your system so you won't feel it running and it will not have any performance hit on your game. TouchBuddy supports PDF's, Movies and ActiveX controls, all which "clutter" up my system during actually playing the game. If you want checklists in HawgTouch, its relatively simple. Make a screenshot of the procedures you want to make, or make a nice large image with all the checklists you find necessary and just create a tab in HawgTouch with panel image as the one you just created. Name it accordingly and once you load the profile you can easily access the checklists. You can add as many as you want in any size you'd like. HawgTouch can scale your controls up or down so you can fit them all in one tab. I will take a look into PDF support and see the performance impact. If its not that large I will include a PDF support in the next version.1 point

Hi everyone. I just finnished reading a great book called A Nightmare's Prayer. I picked it up on Amazon for the Kindle. The author was a USMC Harrier pilot flying CAS in Afghanistan in 2002 and 2003. He discusses working with JTAC's and using the Litening pod in a ton of detail. You can really feel the emotion of the mission for the pilots. There was a JDAM dropped on friendlies at the beggining of the war but it was a crystal clear day. It was a case of a JTAC giving his GPS grid to the attack pilot in an F-18 who dropped on the grid he was given. There is footage of the attack on the internet. It happened while Special Forces and 10th Mountain Divsion soldiers were trying to retake the fortress in Mazar-i-Sharif that was being used to house all the Taliban and Al Queda fighters. The prisoners over powered the guards and a massive fight ensued. I was a private in the 101st Airborne in Iraq in '05 and this incident was specifically mentioned to us. They taught us basic procedures for calling CAS in case we were in a fight and all the NCO's and officers were killed or wounded. The most important thing they stressed was to never ever give your grid location to a pilot. We were always told to give an approximate grid to get him in the ballpark and then talk his eyes on to your location. If you had a good solid grid for the bad guys by all means let him have that one! Most CAS pilots are flying single seat, have been airborne for HOURS, and now they are juiced on adrenaline to help you. They are probably listening to at least 3 radios and may be talking to multiple units on the ground. There is only so much one pilot can handle and when the time comes to drop the bomb he may be looking at a list of grids he has written on his kneeboard and input the wrong one into to the JDAM. There are only two circumstances that I would feel comfortable calling in a JDAM through clouds. The enemy is inside my perimiter and we're all going to die anyway and I need a diversion to try and break contact and push him back or, the target is preplanned and way the hell away from me, and the pilot either has it positively identified with radar or a pod with IR. The radars in airplanes like the B-1B, B-2, F-15E, F-18 etc. can produce images of a target that are almost photographic in detail. Anyway in a real war you're going to have SEAD assets to pop all the major sam threats. Whatever is left you should be able to get down in the mud with them and get eyes on before you have to do something dubious like dropping a big bomb through the clouds in response to a request for CAS from the ground. blackheart25021 point

try hunting in the control setting and make sure they didn't translate to the assigned areas. DCS does this assigns all axis's to the game and you need to go through it and delete the ones that are doubled up.1 point

http://www.demovfw.com/Fafa/Fafa/DOC/Cartes/chart_tutorial.pdf This has been a great help in my Falcon life...or it once was. DCS A10c Nav instruments--being more precise than Falcon--seem to be an untapped source of challenge in the sim. I was thinking something along the lines of something foggy and dangerous where terrain and pilot error would be a more serious threat than what one normally faces in the ED world. I don't think I quite have my brain around the Nav system, egi, or use of TACAN --though it's extremely gratifying trying to get the hang of it. I wonder if anyone has considered/would consider making a mission for the sake of those of us would like to get the instruments down cold before taking on SAM sites. Anyway... --I know consideration of this would be greatly appreciated by more than a few. Many thanks, Moosh1 point

Hi all, I've bought BS back in 2009 I believe but didn't have the time (and partly the effort) to get in the game. Now I do, my history of flight sims go back to the days of F19 Stealth Fighter, through Tornado (how I miss that game...) and a lot of others sims. Helicopter sims were always a favorite, Gunship and its successors all the way up to Jane's Longbow were played extensively but than Real Life catches up, work, marriage, kids, you know, the works. So, back in the saddle of BS I find my knowlegde rusty but still there though I am missing information haha. I'm 34 atm and try to fly the BS with an X52 system with rudder pedals in realistic mode. I'm still looking for a good button layout for the X52 and looking to get rid of the annoying quirk that is the toe-brake on the pedals which BS interprets as full left or right cyclic making the chopper do belly-rolls on the runway (and subequently destroying itself). Also, I'm looking for a virtual squadron, preferably EU based to hoop-up and try multiplayer as I expect that's where the sim truly shines. In the meantime, I've printed out the manual @ work, my boss won't be please to know I've hurt his colour printer with 260+ pages in full-colour but he, it's a lot cheaper than running to the printshop :). Also, I'm reading every bit of information I can find about the sim, tips and tricks, wiki and ofcourse the manual while trying the things learned out in the sim. I'll keep training and training and training and hope to tame the shark and move on to the A10 in due time.. Regards, Looney1 point

The second picture, how did you get the green low vis lights to be turned on without the top white light ? Because I cant get those lo-vis lights to just be enabled by themselves, their is always the top white nav light enabled with them, which kinda defeats the purpose, so how did you get them to be enabled by themselves as I would love to know. The great thing about the A-10C was that nobody had any idea in how to use it and how it avionics work. It was great in the beta with most topics being discussions on how things work, and basically the entire community learning at the same time. I learned a lot from this, more then the manual even. But if the next module is a F-16, and since it looks like most here played Falcon, most topics will be on "why things are not working the same as in Falcon". For me is the contrary, why show the model prior to releasing said module. The improved external model is a great 'marketing' point to sell another module. I think this level of detail is the new "base" on which all external models will be upgraded with the time.1 point

FLIR image is highly depended on time of day/night. During thermal-crossover, FLIP becomes useless and EO sensor is your best option. That happens twice in 24hrs. So those images tell us nothing about when that time of thermal-crossover happens. DCS might have simulated image between best time and worst time since it requires so much work to do entire day/night temperature range.1 point
