1. We are reevaluating how we approach this hobby. Which is triggering some changes around SCSimulations. Personally I have switched roles at my company and I'm enjoying my day job again, which means my hours are naturally increasing. In addition we have some other community projects which are recreating the work we have already done here. This in all honesty does not make sense for our community, which is small already and I don't want to see fragment. In light of these current conditions I am changing Helios license model. Helios will move to donation ware where Helios is free to use for all. This means I'll be setting up a way for people to donate money for the work I do, which is used solely for development tools for Helios and to further my cockpit. I will be exposing the API to write Helios plugins where the community can write new control types, simulation interfaces and gauges. My hope is that the community will take up and extend Helios to things like TeamSpeak plugins, new and better looking gauges and new control types and enhanced interfaces in the simulation. I will focus my time on enhancing the core engine with better more efficient rendering, full network support, better templating / theme support and better easier binding. I will post an unlocked development build sometime today. I will finish my Black Shark gauges over the next week and then begin the work to remove some of the licensing code, separate and release the source code for the gauge packs and simulation interfaces. This will take a few weeks to accomplish. For those who already purchased Helios, I will support you in exactly the same way I do today. Your existing donations are why everyone else has the tools they have and I hope you will feel good about your donations and what you have contributed to the community. I would never have launched on the several hundreds of hours to make a WYSIWYG editor just to build my pit, it would have stuck like TouchPal and Hawg touch with hand edited XML files. For those who think it was pricey and I was racking in the dough, think again. I've made less than $5 per hour of time spent on this project after buying some of the hardware (I needed a clean development workstation outside my pit for clean testing) and software tools I use to make Helios (I use NO pirated software). All of my net profits went into either my cockpit (extra external visuals, electronics, etc…) or toward running SCSimulations (materials for prototypes for Sheldon and I, web site, credit card processing fees, etc…).

 2. In this mission you will lead a flight of A-10s to strike an Insurgent command-and-control bunker at night before providing Close Air Support to an allied ground force tasked with sweeping a village in the Caucasus mountains. A full briefing and map screens are supplied with the mission, plus notes to the player in the readme text doc. This mission contains extensive customised voice comms and a full complement of battlefield support including JTACs, SpecOp recon teams and CAOC (Combined Air Operations Center) CAS coordination. Randomisation of CAS tasking invites at least two play-throughs of the mission in order to receive all available target assignments. Perceptions of mission difficuty may vary but I believe this to be an intermediate-to-advanced level scenario which, depending on specific targets assigned, will require competence in the following areas: i. Target i/d and prosecution via JTAC LSS laser guidance ii. Target i/d and prosecution via CDU input of L/L coordinates given in-flight iii. Target i/d and prosecution via TAD "Mark" for locations given by reference to a flightplan waypoint (WPs are all at nav altitudes and not suitable for target i/d) iv. Target i/d and prosecution of a moving convoy from altitude using all available resources. This is a tactical, procedural mission designed to reflect the reality of US military operations against a well-equipped militia, not the Russian or Chinese armies in full cry. It is therefore an asymmetrical scenario in which you have extensive battlefield support and are unlikely to get yourself killed unless you screw up. This is not a mission for gamers who like to fly Rambo against a wall of SAMs. The object is to complete all target assignments (your primary plus two randomly selected on-call CAS targets) and to RTB to Vaziani with both flight members in one piece. Clearance to RTB and a safe landing constitute victory in this .miz, as they do IRL. A hefty thank you to Apples and Panther for the voice-over radio files and to Grimes, who schooled me in the black arts of randomisation in the ME with enormous patience. I hope you enjoy the mission, which is the product of many hours of hand-crafting, playtesting and teeth-grinding. Comments are very welcome (in fact, encouraged). Not many people seem to be making missions for SP, so if you like it, say so and I will make more. The attached "Midnight Run" file contains the readme and adjusted versions of the .miz for both ramp and runway starts. Needless to say, I recommend the ramp start. Edit: Here is a link to the page for "Midnight Run" at the DCS User Files/Download site. Please feel free to comment there, or to rate the mission, the feedback is helpful and encouraging. 4. I don't think your group ID always has to be 1. The key for me is to listen to the radio when I call JTAC. Sometimes your flight number changes when you listen to yourself on the radio. For example, your real call is Hawg 7-1, but when you call JTAC, the AI will say "...this is Hawg 1-1". That's when I know to quickly change the net group to 1. It's only like that on a few missions though. If the AI radio says 7-1, then I don't change it, and it still works.

 5. What is HawgTouch? HawgTouch is a light-weight software which enables external panels/gauges for your A-10 simming experience. Starting out as only plain MFCD frames, with the help of this community, HawgTouch grew more and more to support better features. Version 1.5 is the latest update of HawgTouch to date. With features like data export and vector-drawn gauges, HawgTouch brings you closer to the real thing. Try it out and see for yourself. Version 1.5 Added server mode. You can now link multiple HawgTouch clients from remote machines Added load profile in LOCAL or REMOTE modes Enhanced NOTEPAD control. You can now add PDFs or any website you'd like as tabs to the NOTEPAD NOTEPAD control size now definable in the profile XML Added update-on-command feature to Export.lua. If HT finds an update to the Export script it will notice you with an OUTDATED label. You can either Update the file or continue with the old one. It is recommended to Update whenever one is due. Added Reset function to all controls which can be reset (Rotary switches, Two state and three state switches) Fixed 3 state switch bug which prevented sending the middle position keystroke Added classic ADI (Black/White bg's) - Type - A10ADIClassicGauge Added ILS repeater Added TACAN repeater Added VHF repeater (supports both AM and FM. See 1.5 Features profile) Added UHF repeater Code optimizations and reduced size For HawgTouch to work in LOCAL MODE, the SIM must run in Windowed mode BE SURE TO CHECK TMAHRING'S WONDERFUL PANELS! Check out his post HERE. tmahring will continue updating the post when new panels are added! Check'em out: IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SERVER MODE: How does server mode work Server mode works by listening to the data received by the sim and distributing it across all specified HawgTouch clients. While in Server Mode, any client that is running HawgTouch in REMOTE mode (assuming configured correctly) will send its keystrokes to the HawgTouch server which will then be forwarded to the game. To utilize server mode. You'll need to open the HawgTouch.exe.config file and take a look at the settings there. A more detailed guide on how to Set Up multiple computers with HawgTouch will be published shortly. NOTE: You will need to change the Export.lua and set the IP of which to send the data to your LAN IP. Sending the data to 127.0.0.1 will not forward the traffic to other HawgTouch clients IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT PDFS: YOU WILL NEED ADOBE READER 9+ INSTALLED WITH THE INTERNET EXPLORER ADDON ENABLED TO VIEW PDFS PROPERLY. - To add PDF's to the NOTEPAD control. See the 1.5 Features.xml file. There will be a commented line (which the parser ignores) that looks like this: <PDF Name="shu77's Airfield Diagrams">C:PDFsshu77.pdf</PDF>Name - The name of the tab that will hold the loaded PDF Path - Path to the PDF document. Can be local or online. You can also open websites using this command. Just change the Path to the URL you want to open. To set NOTEPAD control size. See the following line in 1.5 Features.xml <NotepadSize Width="800" Height="600"/>I probably don't need to go into details on that. Pretty simple! Version 1.4 A few optimizations and bugfixes Added support for more gauges introduced in Gauge Pack 1.2! Version 1.3 features Here are some of the key features brought by HawgTouch 1.3: Rotary Switches with customizable positions & keystrokes 2 & 3 State Switches now support default start position Notepad tab for all your mission relevant data Data import from DCS-A10. ClickButton control expanded to support events from the simulator. Check the supplied NMSP control (thanks paulrkiii) by loading the 1.3 Features.xml profile 10 unique gauges, including Fuel Gauge, Flaps Indicator, VVI (Variometer), Engine Temperature, Oil Pressure and more! Check out the 1.3 Features.xml profile to see them all! Resize the gauges at your will. These vector-drawn gauges can be scaled to any size and retain full detail. Brand spankin' new look! There is plenty more in this version! Check it out for yourself! Gauge Pack All gauges in HawgTouch are provided in a separate module called HawgTouch.GaugePack.dll. The reason these modules are separated is to allow independent maintenance. HawgTouch Gauge Pack contains 16 gauges Altimeter HSI Gauge ADI Gauge AoA Gauge IAS Gauge Hydraulic Pressure Gauge Flaps Indicator Gauge Variometer (VVI) Fuel Gauge Engine Fan RPM Engine Fuel Flow Engine Temperature Engine Oil Pressure Engine RPM APU RPM Gauge APU Exhaust Gas Temperature Gauge Gauges Demonstration Video: Gauge Pack 1.2 Gauge Pack 1.0 - 1.1 Adding gauges to current profiles is very easy. Here is a simple gauge definition in the XML: <Gauge> <Name>FUEL</Name> <Type>HawgTouch.GaugePack.Gauges.A10FuelGauge</Type> <DataImportID>GAUGE_FUEL</DataImportID> <SizePercent>50</SizePercent> <Y>0</Y> <X>420</X> </Gauge> For available types of gauges, take a look inside the provided profile 1.3 Features.xml. Notice here the SizePercent property is now independent to the gauge itself. The default gauges size is 400x400, this parameter is percentage. So 50 would cause the gauge to be drawn in the size of 200x200. Data Export HawgTouch now supports data import from the simulator straight into HawgTouch. This allows better interactivity between the simulator and the program. The provided NMSP control (graphics by paulrkiii) demonstrates exactly how data export works. FULL LIST OF SUPPORTED EVENTS HawgTouch data export is enabled by a single click. Notice that it will back up your current Export.lua file. You can disable data export at any time. Running HawgTouch on a second PC Many thanks to NU-NRG and yargon for their excellent writeups! Quick Setup Guide: MASTER SETUP (Where A-10C is running) Open A10DirConfigExportExport.lua with a text editor Change the IP address 127.0.0.1 to the "slave" machine. ie 192.168.0.12 and save the file. SLAVE SETUP (192.168.0.12) Download and extract HawgTouch anywhere. Make sure Gauge Pack is present. Do not open HawgTouch yet. Open HawgTouch.exe.config with a text editor. You need to bind the local machine LAN IP here. So either type 0.0.0.0 to make the binding automatic type in 192.168.0.12. One of these should work. Launch HawgTouch and load the profile containing the gauges Launch A-10C on MASTER Enjoy! A more detailed writeup will be posted shortly! 7. Hey guys! I dont know if it was already enhaced this way in 1.1.0.6 since I jumped directly from release to 1.1.0.7 but I must say : wow! for the soundscape!!! I am a musician and it is one dimension of things that I cant help to witness. Knowing ED since the very first release of LOCKON (and everything they did since I bought religiously...), I must say that I was always a bit disapointed by the sound. Eventually, in Lockon, several people made some soundpacks that were much better. It got a bit better in BS and now in A-10C but I did find the general soundscape not up to the incredible level of details offered by the rest of the experience... I made a pretty complex airbase startup scenery with a lot of flights taking off, lots of ground units driving by, etc. for immersion fun. I made it at SENAKI in release candidate version a few weeks ago. I have been using this scenery as a good starting point for my personal mission making, so when I doe the detailed ramp start, there are lots of things happening. Well, last sunday, after installing a fresh 1.1.0.7, I fired up my ramp start mission and LO! the sounds were all so much better, and more subtle, more numerous, and more accurate! I could hear all the mecanical noises of the aircraft in the foreground, my own jets spooling up while I could hear in the distance, with a clear difference of level depending of how far they are : thanks moving around, helos coming and going, jets taking up and firing up their afterburners, prop enigne aircrafts (C-130s) disapearing in the distance, all with my canopy open. (that is not counting the fantastic new sound of the canopy electrical motor closing the lid on me) What an amazing simulation experience... I think that we are all here (crazy nerds studying a 800+ pages manual and tweaking systems, and all) for many reasons but one is paramount : IMMERSION! And I think the soundscape is a big part of immersion! Thank you ED. The last patch is amazing. And, on top of it, for me at least, it loads faster, it works flawlessly, I can now crank everything to Max and still have very good framerates, and it is totally beautiful! This simulator is a work of art! JEFX

Но - в виртуале only.

 26. Hi guys, That.... isn't quite right. I'll see if I can clear things up. lua.dll and lua-socket.dll are the images most responsible for the implementation of Lua and the socket interface used for external communication from Lua script. dcs.exe has embedded Lua to use as a scripting language, there is no polling of files going on at all. dcs.exe loads the images (dll's) at runtime and makes calls to Lua to control it at a high level, like write to its state(s) and read from its state(s). Lua is an interpreted scripting language, the code that you write into export.lua is literally running pre-compiled code at runtime. Lua was implemented with C++, just like DCS. The Lua interpreter parses your commands in real time and decides which code path to take. No data is written to any file and then later read back in, everything is in memory until you explicitly tell Lua to write something to a file. I would recommend against that though. There is no need for polling a file for changes, your script should be complete when it is loaded at startup, because changes to it will *probably* not be picked up at runtime. The DCS programmers have control over the embedded Lua engine, and have determined the hooks that they create to interface with the sim. export.lua, and the specific functions within it, are the hooks that we are given to run our code within the context of the simulation. They give us some data objects and functions to call to interface with the sim. What we do with it is completely up to us.

 32. Adding one piece of info: In case someone started geting the sensation that the file export.lua itself is doing the communication, actually the DCS executable does. It reads whatever you've saved in the file and other files of its kind, then decides what to do accordingly. DCS executable implements a socket interface which may be addressed by its IP and port number. It's seen either by another PC on a network or another software on the same PC running DCS, depending on the IP you've specified in those lua files. There are numerous socket communication monitoring utilities that show you what the data looks like. Here's a screeny of data strings for a few simple instruments (the selected text). It requires some programming skills to translate that string into useful information. This is normally done by writing a custom software. And if this software has access to hardware, it can then redirect the data to any hardware it can reach.

 35. Depends :) On the first try I try to the default payload, becuase I want to play the mission the way it was designed by the mission designed. When that fails - mostly because you're tasked to destroy really unreasonable amount of units, i.e. 4 groups of tanks + some bmps - then I select my payload, and the more silly the mission is, the more silly my payload will be (i.e. 6xAGM-65D + 4xCBU 107)

Use this if you want to have a more Natural eye position with a more convenience use of the Mirrors and the back-parts of the left and right console. Downside: Small parts of the HUD are hidden by the HUD frame but you can easily compensate it when you have a TrackIR so you will hardly notice this. 2. Tweaked Cockpit view with centred HUD -Recommend for displays with a small vertical resolutions and TrackIR. Use this if you want to have a more Natural eye position with a more convenience use of the Mirrors and the back-parts of the left and right console and you have to zoom in often to get a better readability of the HUD. Downside: Small parts of the HUD are covered by the HUD-frame but you can easily compensate it when you have a TrackIR so you will hardly notice this. 3. Default Cockpit view with centred HUD -Recommend for displays with a small vertical resolutions. Use this if you like the default view and you have to zoom in often to get a better readability of the HUD All Tweaks include a backup of the "SnapViewsDefault.lua" and if you follow the instruction below you will find the "SnapViewsDefault.lua Backup" folder in "...\DCS A-10C\Config\View". But to play absolute save I recommend to make a backup of your View folder ( "...\DCS A-10C\Config\" ) before you copy my tweaked files. Instruction: Copy the contend of your chosen Tweak into your DCS:A-10C root folder and overwrite: Example: G:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C That's all!
