For those interested, I found a way to simulate an onboard external camera view. Might be nice if you like editing replays It's pretty simple, but it just took me some time to figure out how and where to get it to work. --------------------------------------------------------------- Just change the following lines in your server.lau file: CameraTerrainRestriction = False RearCameraPos = {o[1] - 11.8 ,o[2] - 2.5, o[3]} --------------------------------------------------------------- It changes the location of your LShift-F4 view Have fun:joystick:2 points

I made this chart for myself and the 74th from extensive ingame testing, not the encyclopaedia since that's largely inaccurate. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ABD63HAH http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ABD63HAH2 points

So I get everything fired up and all systems are go. Taxi out, so proud I finally got this thing working the way it should. Power up ... rotate BANG! My 11 year old daughter who was watching me fly said "What was that?" I said "Oh hell I don't know, but that was probably not a good noise." Everything is still working no indication on the idiot panel master caution is not screaming and my Mavs have aligned so I guess we're good. Get about half way to the IP and I start thinking to myself, man it sure is noisy. Look around the cockpit hey WTF where's my canopy? Hit F2 sure enough no canopy. Guess I must have skipped that part of the checklist. Daughter says "Well that was dumb daddy". Thanks sweety I love you too. Ug tenth time will be the charm, I just know it.1 point

Well I thought I'd either seen or read about all the detail this wonderful study sim has to offer but I've not seen this before. I had just landed at Batumi and was just pulled off the runway in the turn around pans at the upwind end of the runway. Having a good look at my Helios pit when I noticed the AOA guage swinging from full scale one way to the other. Looking outside I was amazed to see that because I was tail into wind the AOA vane was being blown about in unison. When I taxied around it to wind it weather cocked back to it's normal position. Now if that's not attention to detail then I don't know what is. :pilotfly:1 point

Not if you plan on sumulating CV ops down the road. Or when you inegrate the next DCS hardcore jet with A10C. I'd say a functional ATC is vital.1 point

Start with Global security as a general reference and search from there: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/munitions/index.html That will lead you to dumb-bombs: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/munitions/dumb.htm Clicky here, foot-note reference there and sooner rather than later you'll arrive at: http://www.unc.edu/~mornings/unguided_munitions/page_05.htm Rinse and repeat - there's a lot of info out there. Just gottta keep on sniffing :)1 point

Track Replay Enhancer 1.1 Change Log Preliminary "LateArrival's Track Replay Enhancer" 1.1 Change Log (regardless of your actual performance, your track replay will automatically be enhanced to impress your friends, your fellow simmers, and of course, the ladies). SUBJECT TO CHANGE. In other words, new items may be added, some items may be removed, or some items may be modified. This list is not in stone. - Reduce 'hunt and peck' time needed to find buttons in the cockpit. - Make it look like you know what you're doing with the CDU. - Increase perceived situational awareness (find targets without flying randomly around for hours). - Increase aerial refueling success rate from 0% to 100% (slider). - Increase crosswind landing success rate from 0% to 100% (slider). - Make all unguided bombs land in the same field as the target. - Smooth out zig-zagging down the runway upon take-off (low, medium, high smoothing options). (All options will be automatically applied to anyone viewing your track who has more posts than you in the DCS forum and/or a higher reputation power).1 point

As for it being overly sensitive: try fiddling with the filter settings, i.e. increasing the numbers, that should make tracking less sensitive.1 point

@ashcanpete: I dropped you a PM... @Fishbot: good that you got that sorted. So the virus-scanner caused trouble? I might add that to the 'known issues' section... Did you install the fix for update 5? It's quite important, because the 'random direction' thing can be fixed by that. Did you also find the log file? Like you say: it should be in the root of C:\1 point

I've sped up my startup time by initiating the INS alignment before engine start. Basically, as soon as the APU is started I turn on the APU gen, L/R AC gens, as well as the EGI and CDU power. This starts the INS alignment right away. I wait until after the engines are running and the APU is turned off to turn on the CICU and IFFCC and start the bit test. I've seen procedures wrt the EGI/CDU power before and after engine start so I don't know which is correct or realistic. I've never had any problems doing it the way I described and it shaves off a ton of time on ramp startups without sacrificing INS alignment.1 point

yes, that's correct - takes a few mins but then you have time to check everything's ok elsewhere, or read a book.. anything really :)1 point

sam: Is there any chance it is something as minor as you're currently working with a trackirfixer'd dll and not the original? I don't know a thing about the internals of the files, I'm just throwing out something that seems like it could matter and be simple enough to easily overlook. :)1 point

No, you misunderstood - I completely understand. I get it. I really do. It's a shame that you don't. I won't waste my breath on why I don't argue with what is tantamount to petty semantics, but it suffices to say that I'm sure if you wanted to talk enough, you could make a DCS: U-2 simulator sound exciting. In the end, you still only have three weapons that are all employed in the exact same fashion. That's what you don't get. Whether you have to 'close to get a VID' is totally, 100% irrelevant. Whether you maneuver to fire your missile in a way that maximizes the pK is totally, 100% irrelevant. AIM-120s and AIM-9Ms are all still employed in the exact same fashion. Everything that you do up to that point is aerial maneuvering and you do *not* need an air-to-air sim in order to experience that. I said that air-to-air could be exciting. Air-to-air is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to whatever multi-role fighter we get. Air-to-air only, however, would bore me to tears after... what? A month maybe? I'm not the only one who's expressed that sentiment. You may get a raging nerd-on for anything with the DCS name on it, but I don't, so please stop inferring in your passive/aggressive way that you think I'm clearly the most colossally ****ing stupid man on the planet because I dare to disagree with your almighty notion of what will maintain the interest of a gamer for the longest. To that I'll simply point out that there are people who get genuine excitement flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong in FSX so please stop pushing your opinion around as some sort of yardstick of intelligence.1 point

I wish I had found this thread before just spending hours yesterday figuring how to make my first multi-track video, and butting my head against various codec problems. There really is a lack of good free video-editing tools out there. As a recording and video editing rookie my workflow is probably far from optimal, but I can at least share some comments about a procedure that worked for this . Screen recording with Fraps (the paid version). No chance I would be able to record 1080p on my HW (at least to the regular HDD and SSD not big enough). DCS: A-10C doesn't provide 720p screen resolution out of the box - I did see a forum post somewhere about tweaking options.lua to hardcode that resolution, but I didn't want to mess up my installation so I went with 1280x1024 instead. For video editing I concluded as others have on this thread that Kdenlive is the way to go. I already have a Ubuntu 11.04 (Linux) installation so for me that worked fine. One may need to install some packages like libavcodec-extra-52, x264, etc. to get all the required codec support - don't remember exactly what packages I ended up installing. One problem is the Fraps codec did not play nice with my Ubuntu and Kdenlive 0.7.8, with problems moving the transport/guide. When trying out another editing SW "Lives" it did not want to even import the recorded tracks. Second problem was I could not figure out a good workflow for resizing imported clips to 720p in Kdenlive. My solution was to install avidemux, and to use it to resize to 1280x720 and to convert all recorded .avi files to another format. I ended up with FFVHuff for encoding, which worked with Kdenlive. Initially I tried converting everything to huffyuv, only to learn that Kdenlive did not recognize the format. Doh ... Inside Kdenlive it's mostly good, but there is the occasional crash at least with my version, so Sierra adventure game philosophy applies - save early and save often. Initially I used the "group" feature for clips quite a bit, but it seemed to cause bugs with moving groups and reopening the project, so I would be careful about using that feature. Also, I had a problem rendering the project to .mp4 as H.264 using x264, the video was just fine but the audio got all messed up. Seems there is some problem at least in my combination of Kdenlive and decoders/encoders with the AAC encoding. As a workaround I edited the x264 rendering profile, replacing aac with the the option to render as MP3 ('libmp3', 'libmpeg3' or something like that) - which produced a file which played just fine and which youtube accepted. Hopefully some useful tips here for other video editing newbies :-) / Helios1 point

The speed break forward position (close speed brakes) is non-momentary, although your setup will work well enough (you are correct about the boat switch and china hat). The only other funny switches on the warthog throttle are the "engine oper" toggles, the forward positions (ignition) are momentary but the rear positions (motor) are non-momentary. All other toggles are non-momentary.1 point

Then I think it's obvious that you don't really know much about air to air combat - even less than us armchair fighter-pilot-wannabes! That would be because you don't know much about BVR :D Disclaimer: In a single player setting your options may indeed be limited. This is unfortunately an AI issue, not so much an A2A issue. Edit: Sniped by Eddie :P1 point

Is there any chance at all that they will make AI voice comms audible to anyone but the host in MP? I cannot fathom how JTAC in MP can ever be considered properly implemented as long as client players (i.e. those not hosting the mission) tuned to the correct frequency cannot hear and copy JTAC comms in MP. And what's the point of using extensive AI (like SEAD or CAP flights) in MP mission design when only one player (the host) can hear the voice comms? I'd rather be told that this large and obvious problem cannot be fixed than be greeted by a wall of silence whenever I bring it up.1 point

Here is the Film of the mission;- (NATO Tempus Fugit) It will run differently each time due to the random elements. You can try it with combinations of support packages, all, some or none! You are in command so its your call. I hope you guys like it, i attempted to demonstrate how complex a rescue mission could be! Be aware, there are a few shocks, but thats war aint it!;) The version is 1.0.08, so the cockpit shadows are resplendant, nice one ED. (Just eliminate the tree shadows and were done here!) EDIT, you don't need the "Zip" miz to use in V1.0.0.8, it will run in any version! The mission in the Zip merely has more going on and I have tested it in every which way possible! So its the "final" release. Looking forward to 1.0.0.9 although, with the two Campains removed there is scope to develop some for this superb sim? Oh and make videos of course!;)1 point
