  1. well, i got it, finally. Taking the advice of an above poster, i settled into a low hover and waited for the bastards to show, then nailed the lead ship at 8k. i noticed when he went down, that his wingman made an evasive manuever, which gave me more time to get the shkval on him, and my second salvo turned him to shrapnel in the air. two of my wingmen committed suicide though, and the third lacked enough fuel to RTB. see attached track for hilarity of #4 flying into a hill. made it back to nalchik, and my engines ran out of fuel during shuttdown O.O, talk about close. C1-07-CLOSE-CALL.trk now that i've chilled out a bit and can think of a better response than "blow me".... here we go: been playin' BS for a few months fooling around with quick missions, only recently started in campaign once i was confident that i had a good feel for the way the bird handles and a modest grasp of weapons employment. Hawx was cute, though hardly a simulator. never tried Ace Combat. my very first was the original Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator. Secret-Weapons Over Normandy was another cute non-simulator. A-10 cuba was awesome when it ran. the old DOS F-117A Stealth Fighter game was all kinds of fun, especially since i didn't have a joystick. The old DOS RAH-66 Comanche game is diretly responsible for my interest in helos (again, played with no stick). Comanche 3 was also fun, though the flight model was less realistic than the original was. Freespace 2, while a space-fighter game without terribly realistic physics, has a huge amount of pilot workload effectively managing threats and keeping a high sit-aware level. i've got more time in that sim than the rest i have played combined, and it's still a challenge to complete several of the missions. played a handful of other more recent ones but until DCS, haven't been able to find one i really liked (CFS3 is a bug-riddled beast, wing's of pery's idea of high-fidelity simulation is "all planes to a snap roll if you so much as think about touching the elevator, and don't even -try- to make a coordinated turn ya bugger, i'm onto you're shenanigans", etc etc) So yeah, this is my first truly high-fidelity sim, but i'm hardly a rank novice to simulation games. sorry, but even chilled out this one still only rates a "blow me"

  3. I was just reading about this stuff last night oddly enough! Ram is sort of tricky in that the speeds listed don't mean you automatically get that. So just because you have 1600 or 2133 RAM doesn't mean that you can just pop them in and get those speeds. Here is a cut/paste that sort of sums it up... For example, let’s say that you bought a pair of DDR3-2133/PC3-17000 memories. Even though they are labeled as DDR3-2133, they won’t run at 2,133 MHz automatically on your system. This is the maximum clock rate they support, not the clock rate at which they will be running. If you install it on a regular PC system supporting DDR3 memories, they will probably run at 1,333 MHz (DDR3-1333) – which the maximum DDR3 standard speed –, achieving a maximum transfer rate of 10,664 MB/s (or 21,328 MB/s if they are running under dual channel mode, read our tutorial on dual channel to understand more about this subject). So, they won’t automatically run at 2,133 MHz nor automatically achieve the 17,000 MB/s transfer rate. So, why would someone buy these modules? Someone would buy them for overclocking. Since the manufacturer guarantees that these modules will run up to 2,133 MHz, you know that you can raise the memory bus clock up to 1,066 MHz to achieve a higher performance with your system. However, your motherboard must support this kind of overclocking (read our tutorial on memory overclocking for more details). Thus buying a memory module with a labeled clock rate higher than what your system supports is useless if you are not going to overclock your system.

  10. As it has been said a million times before, the KA-50 was never made for A2A engagements... ...but thats precisely why I love doing it so much. Have you played the "Republic" campaign for the original 1.02 BS? It has an anti-hind specific mission. REALLY exhilarating. As for my personal advice, about the computers being omniscient, use it to your advantage. They have VERY specific ranges they use their cannon/missiles at. If you can get close enough they'll constantly run from you trying to get to a "minimum" distance to use their cannon. In RL would this happen? course not. Is this cheating? yeah a little. But the way I see it its cheating to get back at the way they cheat by being omniscient. As for the sim vs game debate, I played DOS Comanche before I even learned how to read... and its the reason I'm a pilot in real life now. Don't hate on the games! I love the sims like BS and A10 more than anything, but every now and then people (myself included) wanna just go fast and wantonly blow stuff up (with aircraft that magically hold 250 missiles and don't have limited fuel) :pilotfly: so if you've never played ace combat because you think its beneath you because you invested hours learning BS, well you're missing out friend. You just have to know what to expect when you get into it ;)

  15. until the day we see more multi cpu support, we wont see better visuals anytime soon, imo first dcs series needs to branch more of the code onto more cpu cores, even though the audio is dedicated on one thread, still needs more horse power, fingers crossed we get the new "edge terrain engine" dedicated running on a cpu core. so for all u dual core guys it time to upgrade if u can.

  16. Yes...That was the problem but with the RAMP start version uploadedthat should not be happening anymore... I hope you will have no more problem with this mission. Good hunting !
