I tried this sound mod yesterday. Putting the folders in user Saved Games location appears to work, no need to put in game install folder. Appears to work and sounds quite good. I admit I had no complaint about the original sounds. These seem to have a bit more 'whoop whoop' which is always exciting.

I tried zero curves, zero saturation for a long time. Partly because it was recommended by others and partly because I have quite a good, sensitive joystick. I did experiment setting curves zero and saturation to 75% or so and enjoyed that a lot, but since max speed requires stick full forward and resetting the trim is a nuisance, I dropped that. I like to calibrate trim for hover on take off and use it for landings during the mission rather than repeatedly re-trim. However, recently I set curve to 10% and saturation back to 100%. I'm enjoying that. Can hover easily, maneuver easily and still get full range. The stick doesn't feel very curved, but the extra sensitivity near center is better for me. I experimented with rudder (read tail rotor) positive and negative curves but find no curve is fine for rudder. The UH-1 rudder is not that powerful so I understand why some like negative curve for more power effect. My personal recommendation for UH1 (other choppers really need different setting) is leave 100% saturation and then set lowest curve on X,Y as you need to hover / aim acceptably. Or if you can use an extended stick, you won't need any of this but will enjoy much better control like real pilots. EDIT: Old discussion on Redit: Chuck's Guide tends to set quite large curves. Strong curves change the 'feeling' and can affect trim use.

What is HTS mode? I don't see it referenced in the manual or Chuck's guide. The Sensor Select Switch: DOWN does say: HUD Scene Reject / TPOD.

Minimum is way loud. Would be nice to fix. I don't want to modify the game though. Perhaps our ears must suffer for realism? ;)

Here here! Since a real aircraft does not have a Logitech Joystick or IBM 101 keyboard, there's no reason not to add all kinds of toggles, cycles or whatever helps players operate the aircraft controls using PC hardware.

Thanks. Have added comment to that thread.

We definitely need easy/simplified AAR for casual players. Veteran and purist players can continue to laugh at and deride casuals (or secretly enable if they want.) Casual players may not have time, patients or good computer hardware to enjoy the game like others. They may only have 30 min free time slots to play a whole mission and don't even play regularly enough to know their aircraft and controls real well. You want to deny them casual fun to fly somewhere scenic and fire of some pretend weapons? An aircraft like the Harrier could have a refuel at start or end of mission and add something, rather than enable unlimited fuel or just avoiding such missions.
-
An easy or simplified air to air refueling mode for casual players would be appreciated. Just something like increasing the connection zone by 4x and making it easier to stay connected. Casual players may not have the time, hardware or patience to practice A2A refueling. 2D monitors are more difficult to judge distance compared to VR, and the limited field of view, even with head look makes the visual side more difficult. The goal is to allow casual players to accept missions that have refueling stages where they otherwise would not try. Enable globally in DCS World and/or per aircraft whichever makes most sense. Veterans and purists can continue to laugh at casual players and not check the box. (or do so secretly ;) )

Excellent info, thanks for preparing and sharing.

Can we please have input actions to bind for radios? I could not find any in the great big list. I have a couple of joystick encoders that would be great to bind to the two radios.

The AFT button switches to DMT, so you don't want to do that. Instead, you may need to use FWD to switch take control of your Mavericks after uncaging. Process looks something like this: 1. Select weapon, master arm, etc. 2. TPOD (turn on, mode for day/night/water, laser etc.) 3. TPOD slew and lock (only locks in one of the modes due to contrast I think, otherwise it just tracks ground, not lock for moving target) 4. Uncage Mav, now Mav TV looks where TPOD (or DMT) was looking 5. FWD Take control of the mav to steer, lock etc. (slew now moves Mav cam instead of TPOD) 6. Fire (when Mav has lock) So you use either DMT or TPOD, not both. Don't press the AFT button at all. Also realize you may need to unlock or point your nose and lock a new ground position. If you have multiple targets, you should be able to slew from near the last location to new target and fire off several missiles over a short period with practice.

Rockets are pretty useless, but not as useless as the mini guns. I sweep the mini guns back and forth over the enemies... AK Soldier 1% damage. Must have hit a toe nail! With UN Pilot campaign, I finally ran out of ammo sweeping over enemies with minigun as the copilot and even door gunners won't engage. I ended up landing the chopper next to final enemy and manually taking over the door gun to finish him off. I think the last enemy actually died from laughter though :|

Thanks, I'd forgotten about that one... didn't own Persian Gulf map when I first looked for missions.

Bug still present. Playing now, stuck in same spot :( This video shows what's supposed to happen next:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff93gSKhKm8 This mission also suffers from bugs related to enemies on rooftops (reported elsewhere I recall) where the soldiers often drop off the roof to the ground below.

Can someone please verify that my experience is unusual? Just start the AV8B in Instant Action - On Ramp or Cold and Dark missions and observe the countermeasures configuration on MFD. Also look at the kneeboard to see if the weapon section is blank or has strange numbers/letters.
-
I tried changing the flares and chaff on kneeboard then did rearm/refuel. Still zero chaff and flares. I completely deleted entire DCS game and config files. Reinstalled to different hard drive. Tested, and still zero! (definitely fresh game, nothing was configured and had to use default key binds to test) :(
-
Still not sure what I'm supposed to do. I'm attaching a screenshot of my cockpit display and kneeboard. I started this mission with engine off as per knee board. This is the Instant Action "Caucasus - Cold and Dark" mission. Pressing RAlt + RShift + # toggles between Chaff and Flares for each slot on kneeboard, but has no other effect. My game appears to be corrupt somehow, however I have switched back to Normal, not Beta version and verified files in Steam. I'm attaching a screenshot of kneeboard after loading the same Cold and Dark mission a few times. Update: I tried deleting the entire game config from saved games and uninstalled the DLC via steam, verified by AV8BNA folder gone. Re-installed DLC and issue remains!

Thanks, I didn't know about kneeboard. I'll check that soon. Yes, this occurs for both user and official missions. If I try to change loadout in the mission editor, the flares and chaff are dimmed out, but I can otherwise create and change weapon loadout.
-
All my AV8 missions start with zero flares and chaff now. If I visit the Prog page for ECM, all dispensers read zero. Requesting re-arm on runway shows sliders but count does not increase after re-arm. The counter measures training mission appears to be the only one with them. Please help a noob recover his countermeasures. I'm not sure what I did.
-
I just successfully completed this mission by requesting the wingman to Hold Position at the starting air base. He did comply and remained there until my return.

I tried dropping GBU-12s last night and saw the same. Was > 10,000ft, TPOD was still targeting after impact. First bomb missed by hundreds of meters, second one much closer, perhaps only 10-30 meters away from target but not close enough to damage the target. Only thing I didn't do was laser range first. I don't know if that is necessary since I thought continuous lasing was all that's required.
-
+1 Very much needed feature. Also, don't tell other people how they MUST play their own single player game. Just have check box for people who don't want to be able to re-load a save in order to try a different tactic or recover from a fatal error.
-
Thanks, having some more success also... I see the large cross hair 'closes in tight' as you said, indicating lock. That is, the clear center of the crosshair is almost gone. I'm still not sure why the maverick, when looking good, locked, and fired, sometimes lands far from the target. This model is fire and forget. I also saw the TDC slew suddenly jump a long way for no reason.
-
I think so, not related to my issue, but sometimes the TDC does jump around erratically while attempting to slew. I also see the view being obscured by the aircraft in positions I don't think it should. Just assumed I was doing something wrong.
