This should be offered if not already, as cheat or helper style option for two reasons: 1) For casual players because casual players also exist and pay money to be entertained. Long straight flights can make use of auto pilot + time acceleration. 2) For serious players needing to adjust cockpit, look at map or other activity. This helps aircraft remain steady without careful hands on stick. It compliments features like Pause. Remember even real planes are not controlled with a $90 plastic joystick and IBM 101 keyboard, nor are real pilots equipped with one two dimensional eye ball and 90deg field of view. So give computer users a break and help them control their simulated aircraft.

This is really impressive. Great work!

Okay, thank you. It would have been helpful as another flying / aiming guide. Those little 'wings' either side of the diamond are hard to be precise with. In fact nothing about bombing feels precise! I'm not a sim purists, so I'd be happy to see it as an option, particularly if present on other similar model aircraft.

I am not seeing the little plus sign lock marker that is shown in Chuck's guide and some videos after designating a ground target for CCRP. I follow all the instructions and everything else works fine. The wings appear near the triangle when I designate, the horizontal line passes through and bombs release. Just missing the little plus shaped reticle referred to as 'target radar locked' in the guide. I have radar + radar altimeter on and TAS + RS selected. Has that been remove, or am I missing a step?

If you don't mind plugging in, you can connect your laptop to a external hard drive via USB3 for quite reasonable performance. Not as nice as direct SSD, but usable and cheap. Say 4TB drive stand alone / dock / enclosure with USB3 cable.

Just finished mission 4, the radar training. Wanted to note a couple of things: 1) Commander said to jettison tanks and tell wingman same. I dropped my tanks but on wing radio menu could not find command 'Jettison Tanks' only 'Jettison Weapons' which gave no response. 2) Some previous missions required me to F10 radio taxing to start other aircraft moving. This one just detected my movement and started the story. So a bit inconsistent with automatic triggers vs radio triggers. It was a concern because one mission I didn't realize I needed to radio 'taxi' first and was already at Waypoint 3 before commander took off for training. Very new player here. Perhaps I needed to change radio freq for wingman to get more menu options.

If I'm not mistaken, the KA-50 Shark is one of the most complete aircraft in the game. I think the game was actually called DCS Shark before it became DCS World. Later Shark 2 was released, and just some weeks ago, a (free) visual refresh with new high res cockpit (and lighting fixes in the beta.) The Shark 3 seems to be some to be some kind of expansion about a prototype vehicle that may not exist in real life, but I know little about it. I was just pleased the Shark 2 got a pretty new skin. I recently bought the Black Shark after free to play week. Having only owned the UH1-Huey, which introduced me to DCS only very recently. The Huey is not very capable in modern or heavy combat, but is so much fun to fly. (Others can correct my facts on Shark 1, 2 history if too inaccurate.)

To follow up... I repeated the mission today. Headed straight to the correct location at that point in the mission. Everything worked fine. I could see tracers and smoke. Did a single low pass and got immediate feedback of success.

Thanks folks, found it now in the yet to be released manual. Wow there are a lot of modes by click, long press, double clicking those Fwd, Aft, Down sensor select control!
-
Same behavior here. Didn't see flares/tracers. Then heard message about chopper. Then nothing. Overflew town of Atotsi many times once I spotted troops there (red & blue text). Still nothing. Dumped all my flares flying fast over roof and even between trees. Can't get any lower. Might try again later now I know where to look (unless I've found a different ground battle front.) Also, strangely the game becomes real choppy over that area.

Comms menu stops and starts working intermittently
DimSim replied to ignition22's topic in View and Spotting Bugs
I see something similar and have not yet found a solution. Twice in the last week the comms menu has stopped appearing. 1st time during single player UH1-Huey mission. Couldn't complete mission without comms. Restarting the mission fixed the issue for some more days. 2nd time was my first time in multiplayer. After ~15mins comms menu would not appear with either keyboard or joystick binding. Writing here in case anyone else has experienced this recently. -
I'm on beta version and in the file AV8BNA Pocket Guide.pdf, section: HOTAS/TDC Controls, 117 | P a g e, TPOD Modes of Operation, is empty. Word search returns no unique instances of HTS.

Same here. I edit every single post to remove the double line spacing. The trailing space remains.

I tried this sound mod yesterday. Putting the folders in user Saved Games location appears to work, no need to put in game install folder. Appears to work and sounds quite good. I admit I had no complaint about the original sounds. These seem to have a bit more 'whoop whoop' which is always exciting.

I tried zero curves, zero saturation for a long time. Partly because it was recommended by others and partly because I have quite a good, sensitive joystick. I did experiment setting curves zero and saturation to 75% or so and enjoyed that a lot, but since max speed requires stick full forward and resetting the trim is a nuisance, I dropped that. I like to calibrate trim for hover on take off and use it for landings during the mission rather than repeatedly re-trim. However, recently I set curve to 10% and saturation back to 100%. I'm enjoying that. Can hover easily, maneuver easily and still get full range. The stick doesn't feel very curved, but the extra sensitivity near center is better for me. I experimented with rudder (read tail rotor) positive and negative curves but find no curve is fine for rudder. The UH-1 rudder is not that powerful so I understand why some like negative curve for more power effect. My personal recommendation for UH1 (other choppers really need different setting) is leave 100% saturation and then set lowest curve on X,Y as you need to hover / aim acceptably. Or if you can use an extended stick, you won't need any of this but will enjoy much better control like real pilots. EDIT: Old discussion on Redit: Chuck's Guide tends to set quite large curves. Strong curves change the 'feeling' and can affect trim use.

What is HTS mode? I don't see it referenced in the manual or Chuck's guide. The Sensor Select Switch: DOWN does say: HUD Scene Reject / TPOD.

Minimum is way loud. Would be nice to fix. I don't want to modify the game though. Perhaps our ears must suffer for realism? ;)

Here here! Since a real aircraft does not have a Logitech Joystick or IBM 101 keyboard, there's no reason not to add all kinds of toggles, cycles or whatever helps players operate the aircraft controls using PC hardware.

Thanks. Have added comment to that thread.

We definitely need easy/simplified AAR for casual players. Veteran and purist players can continue to laugh at and deride casuals (or secretly enable if they want.) Casual players may not have time, patients or good computer hardware to enjoy the game like others. They may only have 30 min free time slots to play a whole mission and don't even play regularly enough to know their aircraft and controls real well. You want to deny them casual fun to fly somewhere scenic and fire of some pretend weapons? An aircraft like the Harrier could have a refuel at start or end of mission and add something, rather than enable unlimited fuel or just avoiding such missions.
-
An easy or simplified air to air refueling mode for casual players would be appreciated. Just something like increasing the connection zone by 4x and making it easier to stay connected. Casual players may not have the time, hardware or patience to practice A2A refueling. 2D monitors are more difficult to judge distance compared to VR, and the limited field of view, even with head look makes the visual side more difficult. The goal is to allow casual players to accept missions that have refueling stages where they otherwise would not try. Enable globally in DCS World and/or per aircraft whichever makes most sense. Veterans and purists can continue to laugh at casual players and not check the box. (or do so secretly ;) )

Excellent info, thanks for preparing and sharing.

Can we please have input actions to bind for radios? I could not find any in the great big list. I have a couple of joystick encoders that would be great to bind to the two radios.

The AFT button switches to DMT, so you don't want to do that. Instead, you may need to use FWD to switch take control of your Mavericks after uncaging. Process looks something like this: 1. Select weapon, master arm, etc. 2. TPOD (turn on, mode for day/night/water, laser etc.) 3. TPOD slew and lock (only locks in one of the modes due to contrast I think, otherwise it just tracks ground, not lock for moving target) 4. Uncage Mav, now Mav TV looks where TPOD (or DMT) was looking 5. FWD Take control of the mav to steer, lock etc. (slew now moves Mav cam instead of TPOD) 6. Fire (when Mav has lock) So you use either DMT or TPOD, not both. Don't press the AFT button at all. Also realize you may need to unlock or point your nose and lock a new ground position. If you have multiple targets, you should be able to slew from near the last location to new target and fire off several missiles over a short period with practice.
