Your story is almost identical to mine. I recommend the Mirage 2000 next, to compliment your Air to Ground with more Air to Air focus (though retaining ground strike) in a very complete and fun modern-ish jet. When you've got the basics, be sure to play the included campaign by Baltic Dragon, it is most immersive.

You can bind Speak Red and Speak Green. I have then bound to two buttons on HOTAS. You can't currently bind Channel +/- or number key shortcuts. The actions you want are: Main U/VHF Radio SELECT <- Green Aux. UHF Radio SELECT <- Red

+1 P-51 in single-player, active pause, not normal pause Map: Normandy, The Channel System: i7-4790K, Nvidia RTX 2080S, g-sync No overclocking CPU or GPU DCS: 2.5.6.59625 nVidia: 460.89

I used to get this *sometimes* with UH-1 Huey. Recently I've seen it happen with the F-14 Tomcat rarely (possibly around the carrier ie. on take off). However I just bought the P-51 Mustang and it's happening all the time. Very annoying. The UH1 and F14 typically flashed the black full or partial (ie. 3/4) screen like peoples videos show. The P-51 sometimes flashes just top half the screen or top quarter yellow, like a big stretched texture. Othertimes it's full screen but always seems yellow-ish. EDIT: Perhaps I should have posted in this thread as the OP's description is closer to my current issue of P-51, yellow flashes over Normandy map. It does not seem to occur when game is paused, but with Active-Pause I can reproduce when flying P-51 and panning view in particular direction. It looks like this: RTX 2080 S No overclocking on CPU or GPU. No driver tweaks. Am using g-sync. Does not occur in any other game. Room has AC and temperatures are okay.

I bought Harrier and Mirrage as first my two jets. Love them both. Have spent more time in Mirage than any other aircraft. Love it and recommend it. A nice thing about mirrage is that you can perform ground attack. The bundled and commercial campaigns are also excellent. I can't speak for the Viggen but only hear positive things about it as far as fun to flying and bombing.

Two Harrier aircraft technicians reported that the game appears less stable than the real aircraft, after having observed many hundreds of vertical take offs and landings. I don't have link but one was in the DCS forums. It's also possible sensitivity relates to controls vs the flight model.

Thanks WeakLink, I'll have to experiment more with that AFC Reset.

[RESOLVED] Angle-of-Attack Indexer Light to dark
DimSim replied to Natalon's topic in Bugs and Problems
It's probably realistic in terms of their current graphical lighting simulation. However our eyes perceive 1 million : 1 contrast but screen usually shows 255 : 1 contrast at best. Even games doing HDR well still mostly behave like poor quality cameras photographing a window from inside a building. I'm sure they can find a solution to make it appear more visible. -
Thanks @veenee, sounds like I'm doing all I can. I just aim in the general direction rather than use the 20deg circle or similar.

Trying to launch all Phoenix missiles at a bunch of targets. I'd like to play pilot and request Jester do what he needs to assist. I'd like to stay out of the RIO seat. I can get it to work... 1) Master Arm On, AA mode, Select PH missile 2) Use TID repeater so Pilot can see radar and numbers 3) Jester -> TWS 4) Fire x 6 (Firing in general direction) This works, but I don't see the radar lock diamond nor have the target circle on top MFD display, so can't aim well. If I use STT, I do get the lock behavior but can't easily cycle through targets. Is there a way to get lock behavior each time the 1st/primary target changes?

I'm from the Mirage, so no problem there. Step 1: Ground Crew, Remove Chocks. In fact I'd only just kicked the habit moving back to Harrier

Same, tried to watch my carrier landings to improve but replay is nothing like what I did, ditches into the see shortly after start.

Just bought F-14. Crashes when switching sides for tape player. DCS Beta v2.5.6.58125

I think we're doing almost the same thing. I use a HOTAS with 'AFC Toggle' and 'Alt Hold' buttons bound. After reading Chucks guide, wondered about the 'SAASH Disconnect' because he shows it on the HOTAS setup, but never mentions it again. We're speaking in circles a lot, so I'll try re-phrasing my question: 1) When the trim is in extreme position, is there a button you press that always centers the trim, other than AFC On? (AFC On will re-center trim, but only if it actually turns on.) 2) Asking another way, do you ever have to manually center trim from an extreme position? (Or is there a button that re-centers trim for you any time it's pressed.)

There's a step with the new TPOD that appears important, otherwise pressing TDC Down (ie. lock/target) keeps resetting target to the aircraft direction or waypoint: I must press SSS Aft to do (some magic) which sets the TV/TPOD to target the new location. But since TPOD is present, not DMT, I then must press SSS Down 2x to return to the TPOD, otherwise display shows TV. I might share my list of 'fool proof steps to target IR Mavs with TPOD'. But those steps above confused me the most.

[RESOLVED] Angle-of-Attack Indexer Light to dark
DimSim replied to Natalon's topic in Bugs and Problems
Just got the Tomcat. Came here to try and find how to turn up brightness on the indexer. I see it was already at max brightness setting 9. Looks to be a common issue. -
I'll have to test some more. I think you're saying: 1) You only have bound Automatic Flight Control On (not toggle) Emergency SAASH disconnect Altitude hold On 2) Your disengage, reengage sequence looks like SAASH disconnect maneuver aircraft Hold Emergency SAASH disconnect Hold AFC On, until control is regained I didn't realize AFC On could be held. EDIT: Tried holding AFC On. Seemed to have no effect. If it could engage it would. If it could not engage, it would immediately flip back off. Holding had no effect. Instead I must press AFC On repeatedly to try again. Holding SAASH disconnect appeared to persist as long as I held the lever button. In all cases, trim only reset when AFC actually turned on.
-
Thanks for your continued responses @WeakLink. I carried out quite a bit more testing, but am not getting consistent effect resetting the trim with 'Emergency SAASH disconnect'. When the trim has 'runaway', I've tried using the SAASH disconnect button and the AFC Off button. Both turn AFC off. I've only ever seen trim reset on AFC On. If you are consistently able to reset a runway trim, that is not something I have been able to reproduce. That is also the only thing that is useful to me. So if it's possible, I want it. I've also tried the 'Automatic Flight Control Reset' input binding. That had no effect for me. Can you please check which bindings you have ie. 'Emergency SAASH disconnect', 'Automatic Flight Control Reset', 'Automatic Flight Control On/Off/Toggle'. I have 'Automatic Flight Control Toggle' on throttle button and 'Emergency SAASH disconnect' on stick lever button similar to warthog. I assume you have the same, but the wording of the sim bindings and our discussion is not precise.

Others can reply also, but yes, you must designate a target waypoint for the CCRP line to appear. For some other weapons, the waypoint seems optional.

Not compatible with Easy Comms. The mission will tell you what radio channel(s) to switch to while playing.
-
That's okay, was wondering about that, with mention of cyclic etc. I actually bought the Huey as my first DCS aircraft, then Harrier. Coming from Huey, apart from occasionally treating the throttle as collective and moving in the wrong direction, I thought I was quite good at flying and hovering the Harrier. But after six months of flying the Mirage almost exclusively, returning the Harrier has been a quite a re-learning curve which made me question if the aircraft flight model had changed. With the chopper, it is common to 'stir the stick'. Sadly very few YouTubers display their controls on screen, so it's hard to observe what they are doing. I notice some move the stick and throttle a lot, others don't.
-
Thanks for sharing your comments and tips. I'll try to put them into practice. A few more questions about technique: 1) Try to keep AFC on or off while landing? (I believe it disengages below 160kts.) 2) Use manual trim at all, or just stick? 3) Use rudder to try counter roll or intentionally move sideways? 4) Are there critical HUD or other visual cues to follow?

I enjoyed the mini campaign, looking forward to more.
