DCS: Black Shark Target Detection Model for AI Aircraft
JEFX replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
WOW! Thanks for the info! I have been dreaming of many of these features over my Lockon years... The fact is, even if you build yourself a complex and realistic mission, if the interacting AI have such a dumb behavior as in LO it cannot become as immersive... More realistic targeting and attacking behavior was very high on my hopes for AI. Thanks a lot! JEFX -
I use CH FighterStick + CH ProThrottle + CH ProPedals(all USB) (along with Tir4 and a touchscreen with touchbuddy). CH products work fine, are very easy to program and versatile. One little problem : after many years of use, one button on my stick is not working properly any more (actually one side of a hat switch)... But besides this it works great for many years. JEFX

Map making, are there unit limitations?

Hi! Brit is right, it is a good way to go around. (by the way, I noticed your 1000th post Brit!!!! I am impressed and I drink to that: :drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk:) Some static objects eatup your FPS (for example detailed models aircraft such as F-18 or SU-25T) but for sure SAMs do not take a lot of power. I just finished a lot of experimenting beause I will make a very big mission soon and I had 28 SAM sites going on at the same time and it does not change my FPS at all. good luck JEFX -

Thanks for your kind words Captain R, if there would be more time and less work I would enjoy doing more... Thanks Groove for making this a sticky (I do have a few more subjects planned for in-depth threads like this, I will see how much time I'll get... (In real life, I am a professional conductor... very far from jet pilots (maybe not so much...:D) and I do conduct 6 opera performances this week... It keeps me extremely busy.) Any how, as Glowing Amraam corrected me : Edited!, GA. Talking about our skinning queen: I am glad you got that straightened up ;) cheers JEFX -
Flask, You will always spawn at the same spot (pre-designed spot per air base) if you dont make some workaround. Olivier Beaumont in his excellent detailed maps of our air bases has called those military ramp. http://users.skynet.be/bs999158/LomacDownload.htm The only way to get to spawn elsewhere is to put static objects (other aircraft for ex.) on those spots. You will get to spawn where you desire by adding more and more static aircraft. Sometimes also, if you put a strong wind that would require you to takeoff in the opposite direction than what the game usually assigns you, you will spawn in a spot at the other end of the complex. Of course, all this applies to single player. If you play online, you will get whatever result of whatever the mission designer has put in terms of other aircraft taking off and static objects.. JEFX

Ho does LOFC plays on a wide screen flat display?

Wow, thanks, that is a very precise answer! JEFX -
Ho does LOFC plays on a wide screen flat display?
JEFX replied to JEFX's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks for your quick reply Boberro. I use actually 1600x1200 res. with pretty much everything maxed (exept water medium) and I have ok fps (not great) and the game looks awesome! My question about stretching is that (I may no understand fully how those resolution work...) but if the image is good (which it is here now) at 1600x1200, how can it remain with the same proportions at 1920x1200? JEFX -
I am considering changing my old CRT (Viewsonic P220f, 22 inches) to a bigger and more recent flat display (say the beautiful VX2835wm 27.5 inches from Viewsonic). My questions are: 1) How does LOFC plays on such a display?, is the image streched or deformed or does it look good? 2) Does it eat up more ressources (fps)? 3) What in your opinion is the best choice for large flat displays? My system specs are: Core2Duo E6600, 2Gigs of RAM and nVIdia GeForce 7950GX2 thanks! JEFX

Taking Off as the AI Lands: It's Possible

Hi! One thing that IS modeled well is that if you catch fire in, say, one engine, and you turn off that engine in flight (with the proper keys), you may end up extinguishing that very fire... But you will need to trim and use your rudder pedals extremely to limp pack to base with only one engine in use!!! You also may like to know that if you land at an airbase with damage (whatever extent), if you park, turn off the engines and wait (a couple minutes is enough), your damage gets healed and you can rearm (CTL-W and re-fuel CTL-R (push several times or hold until full) and take-off again with a clean plane!!! PRAISE FOR THE MODS !!! PART 3 (see part 1 and 2 above) SKINS : One of the most varied aspect of mods, there are litterally hundreds of skins out there, some very realistic (if you are looking for that) and some totally imaginative (if you like that instead). The level of fidelity and realism (and quality) is not the same everywhere and the list would be too long for here but here is a list of my favorite authors, you can search their skins by their names : Mizzy : I am astonished by her skins, especially her latest Fulcrum Package that is fantastic, complete and diverse! get it here: http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=69&lid=1066&title=MiG-29%20Fulcrum%20Skin%20Pack#dldetails She did also a very nice worn-out MiG-23 http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=111&lid=438&ttitle=Mig-23_Green_Faded#dldetails and MiG-25 http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=111&lid=378&ttitle=MiG-25_'Green'_Foxbat#dldetails She did also a very good looking F-15C: http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=70&lid=728&ttitle=F-15_EG_x2048#dldetails She is also in the process of creating diverse skins for several objects in the game and they do look very promising (ships, etc...) Ice : Some of the best skins for the Flanker ('27 and '33) you can find them on this page : http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=71&orderby=dateD#cat MitchJanssen: He has been doing such great work for LO that his skins are incorporated into FC, the master of LOFC skins (especially A-10 and more). many of them are in the game but here are some: http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=68#cat Or his F-15 Oregon: Mr Wolf (and others together in packs) : great Frog skins. Actually, trying to complete this section, I realize how foolish it is to point only a few skinners. (it is purely based on my personal preferences...). There are so many skins out there. Most of them one can find at Lockonfiles http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=53#cat and Virtual-Bomber-Wing_32 : http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&maincat=5&lang=en Go have a look for yourselves, there are litterally hundreds of them. Just a few names seen all over there : Colt40Five EricJ Zimster Deepthroat Rustam Oxyd Pallmall Reepo MigMag Aquarius Varun Alexandra Jeff 'storm' Stoermer Flanker 42nd_Mechanist D-Scythe and so many more... !!! Praise to the MODS , II !!!! PRAISE FOR THE MODS !!! PART 2 COCKPIT: For those who like to have new cockpit feelings, there are several mods out there, many of which are older and may or may not work with 1.12a... (dont have time to test now) but nevertheless beautiful : Hud font mod V2 that make letters finer, less fat. (find it at Teka's site : http://bvr.jpn.org/lockon/index_e.html Several cockpit liftlines mods for different aircraft as single mods and one pack for all AC Complete Cockpit Lines Pack. (unfortunalty, the author is missing) http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=75&orderby=dateD#cat Teka-Teka's English radio mod or English cockpit Mod (translate cyrillic to english in russian cocpits) also by Teka-T. Several mods change the gauges lighting to blue, for example this excellent Mod gy Mitch Jansen for the A-10 and F-15C : you can get it here : http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=75&lid=192&title=Blue%20A-10%20and%20F-15%20Cockpit%20lights%201.02/FC#dldetails or, on the same page, another one for the Russian planes: GLOBAL MODS : Those are mods that replace many aircrafts by other nationals, change countries in the coalitions, make AI aircraft flyable, etc. Here for example, you can fly the F-18C (inside the cockpit of a SU-33...) http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=79&orderby=dateD#cat Some are aimed at a specific conflict situation (Crimean Air Wars): http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=128&lid=616&title=%20CRIMEAN%20AW%20Mod%20-%20CRIMEAN%20AIR%20WARS%20v2#dldetails some at specific nationality (Armee de l'air mod, with mirages and french aircraft flyable with new cockpit look...), etc. There is a lot of stuff in this (big , >80Mo) mod. You get all the info at this site (it is in french): http://www.ada-mod.org/adamod/forum/viewtopic.php?id=351 You can get it here : ftp://ftp2.devilpenguins.org/devilpeng/AdA-Mod/++AdAMod_V1.00++.rar Here is a look at the Mirage cockpit And get the high-res, skin pack that goes with it here: ftp://ftp2.devilpenguins.org/devilpeng/AdA-Mod/++AdAMod_HighRes_SkinPack_V1.00++.rar Those mods are not essential and the flight models always remain those of the actual flight models in the real game (F-15 of MiG-29 or Flanker, etc). There are many hundreds of other mods, all fun, but these are my favorites. One should always be careful that a mod is compatible with one's version of the game (ex.: 1.12a). Thanks to all the modders and artists who contibute to enhance our flying experience daily, thanks to Skypat for ModMan the universal installer, Thomas for our main rescources site Lockonfiles, and above all, ED and all its wonderful team for making all this possible. Edit: Glowing Amraam just suggested I include links for those mods, so here is my post edited WITH links... Thanks GA for making this a sticky, I hope it can help some new people! We cannot finish this without talking about Ironhand...I MUST say that, even though we are not talking MODS here, his training tracks are so important and fabulous that I want to mention them here : http://www.flankertraining.com/ironhand/ There are some for all your liking (and needs...) Most of Ironhand's tracks are transfered to video, so you can watch them no matter what version of Lockon you are using. or those as transfered to AVI by Teka-Teka : (he transferred all of FC's training tracks to AVIs, then, yon can save them and carry them around in your ipod or laptop, study them, even, if you can, put them on the side in another computer and fly them at the same time in realtime... Now, That's what I call training! http://bvr.jpn.org/lockon/training/FC_eng/index.html Lock On: Flaming Cliffs Trainings UPT - Undergraduate Pilot Training A-10A Thunderbolt II F-15C Eagle Su-27 Flanker B Su-25 Frogfoot Su-25T Frogfoot Fighter Weapons School - Top Gun And finally, thanks to Glowing Amraam, who, not only made the best movies with our favorite simulator (and also the upcoming one...) but more than that, seems to have given the taste to many young movie makers out there to try out for themselves! I have collected most of them on my drive but one has to look around for them. Here is an example : Speed 2 (trailer) You can watch it here : http://www.gamerztheatre.com/content/view/187/226/ or previous one Speed: get it here : http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=28&lang=en&page=5 In fact, here is the best collection of Lockon movies (there are 137) on one site (days of download...): this is a great site (Virtual-bomber-wing-32, german site) http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=28&lang=en GAs movies are located at page 3 and subsequent : http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=28&lang=en&page=3 One of everybody's favorite of all times is Superiour fighters made in 2004, and still great : on this page : http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=28&lang=en&page=7 ____________ There are so many other great ressources, sites, modders, moviemakers, file collectors, etc, that I am sure I am missing too many, forgive me in advance. This is not meant to be the most comprehensive ressource guide for Lockon but still, your suggestions are welcome, I will add them, or edit them. yours truly, JEFX p.s. (This post was again getting too long, so I will make a PART 3 for the skins only..) -

Hi all! This is just an enthusiasm post! I have flown Lockon since the first day, continuously, and I must say that many of those mods out there contribute to make this sim always better and better, especially in terms of sensory realism (sounds, textures, details, skins, etc...). I have always tried all those mods and enjoyed them, as well as all of you guys, but I just wanted today to express my admiration for the latest mods out that really stand out. In the same week, after installing what I would consider the very best package of skins ever done for FC, Mizzy's fabulous 70 Mo of Fulcrum skins, I just downloaded last night the Reload terrain mod and I couldn't believe the beauty of the realism! Just a few weeks ago I was flying with a friend in a region that is quite similar as Simferopol area (flat agricultural landscape with distant hills in the haze) and I must say that with the new Reload terrain, the look is almost real! With this post, I want to thank all those people who have dedicated so much time in making this sim a fantastic experience (of course possible because of the vision of the creators of it, ED and its great team!) Here, (in case it helps anyone less familiar with these, or new to our sim) is my list of must Add-ons that changed my Lockon experience, (this is not a comprehensive list but rather a list of essentials and favorites, all tested for 1.12a and compatible with each other now): Everything listed here can be found on the best site of files for Lockon justly called lockonfiles : http://www.lockonfiles.com/ thanks to ThomasDWeiss! (I suggest that you log on into Lockonfiles (it is simple and free) before you clic on any of the following links. If you dont, you will just get the message that you are trying to access a denied page of the website.) ____________ The first and foremost must-have is the program Modman (now V. 6) made by Skypat that allows us to instal all those mods in simple click! (current version is V. 6.3.0.1 as of Jan. 21st, 2008 ) You can find it here : http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=125&lid=991&ttitle=Modman_6.3.01#dldetails (Install it first and then, download all these great mods (either as .zip files or .rar files into the folder ) TERRAIN: Lockon Reload air base and ground texture mod by Rocky and Grandsurf : simply the best looking terrain for the sim ever! makes every second of flying look so real! Get it here : http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=153&lid=1067&title=LO%20Reload%20Ground%20and%20Air%20Base%20Textures%20b01#dldetails Scenery mod V. 1.3 'Merzifon' by Birdy : it adds a considerable amount of details and zillions of trees to the map, removing Razdolnoye Airbase and installing a base in Turkey at Merzifon instead. Get it here : http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=118&orderby=dateD#cat Many little details fixed by small but important mods by Teka-Teka : You can find all of the following on Teka-Teka's excellent Website: http://bvr.jpn.org/lockon/index_e.html Structures visibility mod V 1.1 Structure lights Mod V.2 Tree shader mod V. 2 Coastline mod Realistic moon mod as well as a couple of mods that enhance the map itself : Directional icon airfield mod Russia-georgia LO map border mod V. 2 http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=123&orderby=dateD#cat Or even a Mod that changes the color of the sky in different ways that it looks quite athmospheric by Antonion Gatti: Sky Color Mod V. 1.2 Final : http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=123&orderby=dateD#cat and many more. SOUND: There are several beautiful soundpacks that replace all of Lockon (rather bad) soundscape, one of the favorite of most people is ZZZSpace's sound pack 8, but there are several others, including Archer's Soundpack and =TuAF= Squadron Soundpack. http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=109&orderby=dateD#cat My favorite is RuGG's moded soundpack that makes a mix of Archer and ZZZSpace's soundpacks. English radio Mod by Teka-Teka : if you like to fly MiGs like me and dont want to have the subtitles in your face, you are likely going to hear either your wingmen or the tower and awacs talk to you in Russian and, for my part, I dont really understand it, so this little mod changes the russian radio comms into english, very handy... (again, you will find it on his Website : http://bvr.jpn.org/lockon/index_e.html MODELS : There has not been so many new aircraft models in LO for many reasons, but definitely the most beautiful new model in recent months is Walmis new F-15 (dec0206 walmis F-15 model). get it here : http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=131&lid=663&title=F-15C%20Eagle%20Model#dldetails There are also a great variety of small models addons that enhance many little aspects of the sim (new fuel tanks for several AC, new bomb models, including a very detailed and functional Snakeye bomb : http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=131&orderby=dateD#cat and a few AI aircrafts (J-10 model : http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=131&orderby=dateD#cat Mirage F-1 : http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=131&min=20&orderby=dateD&show=20#cat (go to second page) There are also several new objects popping up these days, many of which we only will see in BS... (to be continued.... post too long) see post #8 below : http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=433113&postcount=8

I think that after so many dozens of screenies of (great!) ground models, I would really like to beg for a batch of screeshots that really show those aspects (those that Evil-Bilol-1 is talking about and that we kind of see in that picture : Anyhow, its been quite a while without any screenies? thanks JEFX
