  1. Most of my trying since day one is on new missions, problem persists.
  2. I can't find the forum where these are usually posted but I'm currently using: Slider and User Curve boxes checked. 0, 4, 8, 12, 17, 24, 39, 55, 71, 86, 100 Seems to work well, mil power is at the (stock, unmodified) detent stop and afterburner ignites just over the hump. Any improvements or suggestions are of course welcome. Edit: Sorry, that's obviously just for the throttle. On the stick I'm using DZ 5 and a 10 curve for both pitch and roll.
  3. I noticed the same issue. Haven't tried dialing TACAN on the left panel myself because it's literally impossible to see in VR, but if I manually enter ("request") a TACAN freq via the Jester menu, X and Y will be reversed when entered by Jester. Example: If you enter ("request") 14X, then open the Jester menu again you can see that he actually entered 14Y, and vice versa.
  4. Checked. Not the issue. The only time I can consistently get launched is at the beginning of the Carrier Takeoff tutorial. If I trap and attempt to launch again during the tutorial, no dice. If I create my own carrier mission, no launchy. Is it fair to say this is a bug yet?
  5. Yep the black flickers are back with a revenge in the Tomcat.
  6. Yeah ok I don’t know what any of that is. I re-downloaded and tried again to install the mod today via the readme instructions that accompany the mod and again it prevents DCS from opening. No suggestions though?
  7. Just checked and no, I'm not getting the light at all. I do get a green "Launch Bar" light in the right knee caution panel, but that light actually extinguishes as I run up throttles, illuminates again when they're at idle. I disconnected/reconnected to the shuttle probably 10+ times and was never able to launch. I don't know what you mean by 'power off/down'. Shut down and restart the entire jet while on the cat? Cool. Sounds like a completely unrelated problem to the thread you're posting in. I'm seeing the salute, just never getting launched. I mapped salute to the up arrow key anyway. (Wasn't working before I remapped it, btw, so that's not the problem.)
  8. If I start on the catapult or hot start the mission I can get launched once. After the trap I taxi back to the catapult, kneel and hook to shuttle, wings and flaps, power up, wipe, salute...nothing. I haven’t been able to do a second cat shot at all the last couple days. Is there something I’m missing? Known bug?
  9. I’ve tried to install it a couple of times. Copied folders per instruction, but then DCS won’t start. No crash or dialogues, just wont start. Copy the backup file per instructions and DCS works again. Any ideas?
  10. Dammit, I keep forgetting to try it out!! Remind me tomorrow will you?
  11. I've learned that when someone says "trust me"... By HB's own admission they intentionally did not nail the inside sounds. They took some artistic license to make the switches, dials , buttons, and slidey bits much louder than they would be irl. IIRC their reason was to compensate with audio for the lack of feedback from not having your butt in the real seat. Electronics cooling fans, the Environmental Control System, various canopy and airframe wind noises...that's what you hear in tactical aircraft cockpits I've sat in. Switches and buttons are not totally drowned out but very much in the background. ED's Hornet actually gets very close to what it sounds like irl. I came here specifically looking for a mod to tone down all the clickety-clack business in the Tomcat.
  12. Ha, I already planned on doing exactly that when I get home tonight, but do you happen to know the actual reason that +5 is the horizon reference? Was it unintentional or was there some hidden, misguided logic? It's just very bizarre. Oh I'm having a blast with the flight model and it's not that difficult at all. The fbw guys just don't know what trim really is yet and that their hands need to be on the controls at all times. I've obviously never flown a F-14 but you're correct that the DCS version is obliquely reminiscent of some GA platforms.
  13. One thing I can recommend is spending some time in the F-5 if you have that module. After my first few F-14 flights I realized there are a lot of similarities between the way each flies (at least in DCS), but the F-5 is vastly less complicated to operate. You can focus on learning to fly with trim and without a HUD, the gauges are easy to read, and you don’t have fbw to hold your hand. I’m not great at flying the Tomcat yet but I’m catching on quickly and I think 200+ hrs of F-5 time helped a lot. I’m pretty sure the sole purpose of the F-14 HUD is to try and kill you. I knew going in that the “horizon” is at +5 deg on the HUD, but I still don’t know why. WHY?? It just doesn’t make any logical sense!
  14. What? Why would I lower my settings? I also get slightly better performance in the Cat than the Hornet, fps is not the issue. The problem is that nothing is legible without leaning in and using zoom constantly, and even then plenty of items remain unreadable because of ED’s high contrast lighting.
  15. I'm having major issues reading anything in the cockpit, and I bought the Odyssey specifically for the higher res. RadAlt, Airspeed indicator, all display panel switches, all console switches...I can't even find some of the console switches, and they're highlighted during assisted startup! Using zoom occasionally helps but more often doesn't at all. Trying to set TACAN had me contorted over in my chair, zoomed in, and I still couldn't see it well enough to set it. I place the blame two places. On ED for their terrible high contrast lighting engine (adjusting gamma helps, but makes everything washed out and ugly). And hardware. We just don't have the resolution yet, not even close. I'm going to give the Cat a chance, see if I can get used to it and if any solutions arise in the coming weeks. But if there aren't some pretty drastic visibility improvements I'll probably end up putting her on the shelf for a few years while a couple generations of VR upgrades come to market. Currently it's just extremely unpleasant trying to interact with this cockpit.

    CTD

Stalled low, dropped a wing, crashed, then CTD. dcs.log-20190314-043051.zip
  17. After every update I do a clean and repair, and delete fxo and metashaders. Every time. My in-cockpit fps is stable and actually slightly better than the Hornet... Now where are we posting CTD's?
  18. I noticed the omission also, and in fact it’s been quite a while since Vulcan has been mentioned by ED. Makes me think maybe:
  19. While I understand the sentiment, presuming YoYo purchased the F-14 module then he technically paid for the album too. Says so right in the album notes on Bandcamp: I think it’s great people want to give extra for Meteor’s hard work. I did because I could. Not everybody can, and for prepurchasers there’s certainly no obligation. Now, if you haven’t prepurchased the module and don’t feel like donating, I got different words for you.
  20. Ok that makes sense, thanks Vic. Listening to the FPP over the last few months has me wishing for the burble in DCS.
  21. They had a Tomcat pilot and RIO on the fighter pilot podcast yesterday (absolutely worth a listen of course). I might be misinterpreting but it sounded to me like they wouldn’t extend DLC until stable in the groove, right before the burble. It’s a sample size of one so take from it what you will.
  22. One of the best overview/preview/instructional vids I’ve seen for any module in DCS, definitely worthy of its sticky status. Required viewing for any prospective RIO’s. Thank you!
  23. If the Cat is half as good as this album...goddamn we’re in for a good time. Absolutely perfect soundtrack for the Tomcat. Thanks Meteor!
  24. Those aren’t actually our concerns at all, they’re company management concerns. I suppose you could spend your time worrying about ED staffing issues but I don’t know what good it would do. On the bright side, according to the Wags interview today ED has added a lot of talent over the last two years and we’re just now beginning to see the fruits of their labor. And for you that means including non-combat aircraft. It doesn’t for me.
