  1. It’s 2019, the world is literally the theatre. If you’d like to do missions similar to Isreal attacking Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, we’ll need bigger maps. A B-52’s strike on ISIS HVT’s, we’ll need (much) bigger maps. You’re worried about scope creep, I welcome it. Besides some fun toys (Viggen, Mirage, F-18, upcoming -14 and -16, etc) DCS is actually extremely limited in its ability to simulate a modern conflict. Bring on the subs, ICBM’s, hell, anti-satellite weapons! Don’t forget ED has repeatedly stated their intentions to expand the scope of DCS to include non-combat aircraft (already happened, obviously) and a global earth. You should probably get used to the idea that DCS is going to grow beyond a few dogfighting jets. (I don’t know what the heck you’re talking about with the collidable trees nonsense. Map size has no bearing at all on whether trees are collidable. Maybe you don’t remember the first ten years of DCS’s existence or the Lock On series before that. We seemed to get on ok without them.)
  2. I feel the same way. In real life GA flying I keep a GPS only for backup because I simply enjoy navigating more with VOR and NDB. But in DCS I’ve reluctantly fallen in love with the Hornet’s modern(ish) avionics and weapons systems. Everything is so logical and easy to use. It has me wondering how much time I’m actually going to spend in the F-14 once the “OH-MY-GOD-I’M-FLYING-A-TOMCAT” wears off. I suspect I’ll be more fascinated by the -14’s unique aerodynamics and flight modeling and end up using the -18 for actual combat employment.
  3. I’m of the opinion that more content=more better DCS. I’m not specifically rooting for flyable civilian planes, but I wouldn’t throw a tantrum and flame ED, like so many people here would, if we ended up getting some. (Remember how people lost their damn minds about DCS: Cows, even though it was explicitly stated that a developer created it for fun on their own time? Shameful behavior from the community imo. (Btw, where are our cows?)) It especially wouldn’t bother me since an airliner would likely be a third party module. If PMDG wants to develop for DCS more power to them. Civilian AI traffic, on the other hand, is an absolute necessity. Yeah I remember that. The fact that it was mentioned casually though, and hasn’t been brought up since makes me think it’ll be years (if ever) before we get it. Besides a serious weather upgrade (if that ever happens either), civ air traffic is the biggest improvement ED could make to the sterile maps we currently fly.
  4. That is what’s preventing you from buying it?! Please. Making worn out cockpits isn’t an obsession. As has been stated in many threads already, they’re simulating an aircraft that’s been in active service for 20+ years, of course it’s not going to look factory new. HB is literally striving for accuracy in representing an older cockpit. From personal experience and what HB have shown so far they’ve done a remarkable job. Yes, but again they’re not simulating a new plane! To be fair, the A-10 that ED simulates is fresh from its C upgrade. I was on a team that worked the A to C conversion, when we sent the planes back to their squadrons the cockpits did look brand new...because they were.:) Of course there’s nothing wrong with modding a DCS pit to one’s desired level of wear.
  5. Those big tamiya kits are really out of this world. Expensive as hell but worth every cent. The level of detail, and subsequent work required, is so far beyond anything I’d imagined when I was a kid. Besides the F-14, the F-16CJ is one of my favorites. The F110 engine itself is fully buildable and able to be removed from the plane. https://www.tamiya.com/english/products/60315f16cj/index.htm Squirrel that Tomcat looks fantastic. Great job on the detailing.
  6. I’ve had the 1/32 version of that kit sitting in the closet for a few years now. Really want to build it but I wouldn’t have anywhere to put it if I did, that model is enormous when finished.
  7. Awesome! Will you have to wait until ED is (mostly) done with the Hornet before beginning development or will the campaign not include targeting pods and ground radar? It wasn't a limited edition or anything. The terrain detail in Iran alone is worth the price of admission. It makes the Nevada map look old (I still love Nevada btw). PG is ED's highest quality map, pick it up when you get a chance!
  8. I remember those days. Worked rotating shift, 24/7 on-call for over ten years. It was fine when I was young but you could watch the older guys literally aging in front of your eyes as those back shifts dragged on. I’ve been working human hours (06~1430) for the last few years and I’ll never go back. I’ve declined shift job offers for close to double the money I’m making now because it’s just not worth it to me anymore. I hope you find a few pilots that can work with your schedule. Good luck Cowboy!
  9. A guy can’t live on appetizers forever. Finally starting to get the meat and potatoes. Thanks Mav!
  10. Same. He's been my favorite for a while. I like the humor in the non-VO vids. Fun to watch and he's not afraid to show his failures. *poof* The Tomcat video was kinda more of the same though. Bomb run and a quick Phoenix shot. No RIO, LANTIRN, multicrew demos. I'm glad he launched and landed on the carrier though. Seems the other guys are carrier-averse.
  11. Same here, I called 3/20 from day one. #betrayed
  12. Woke up to the YouTube notification. Ambush. I love it.
  13. I suspected as much while watching it. That certainly didn’t feel like ED’s typical waypoint-following AI.
  14. Same here, that was a great shot. I was impressed by the small fluid movements of the pilot, he’s not just a rigid mannequin. Very cool.
  15. Good reference, amazing film.
  16. Correct. I don’t know why no one is grasping this. ED self publishes, they can post updates whenever they want, to OB or Stable, or both. They’ve posted updates on every day of the week except Sunday that I can recall. It’s clear they have internal goals for updates and merges, but they’re not obligated to update on any particular day. This is why I quietly shake my head every time I see a post saying “March 13th is the last OB update before spring!!!! If no Tomcat then HB LIED!!!” No, ED can release an update on the 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, or 20th if they want to.
  17. Haha, I saw that notification waiting for me right after pressing ‘submit reply’. Can’t wait to watch it!
  18. I’m split on what I think is going on. I believe ED is definitely taking their time and being more thorough with their vetting process. At the same time the lack of technical and instructional video content, even though it’s been promised for months now (I know Jabs currently has some basic stuff ready for release), makes me think there are still some real developmental issues, particularly with the back seat. To my knowledge we haven’t seen anyone actually operate as the RIO and there have been no demonstrations at all of multi-crew, even though this is one of the most anticipated features. Just as a disclaimer I’m not one of the “pitchfork” guys. I’ve been expecting a march 20 release since I purchased back in October. This is just how I’m reading the tea leaves.
  19. There’s also the fact that, for whatever reason, ED made the Stennis ~50 ft. shorter than it’s supposed to be irl. I’ve never been on the real Stennis to judge it against but that’s not an insignificant amount. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=225782 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=230131
  20. That’s not the same thread that kept getting necroposted for years, Matt literally posted it this afternoon. : )
  21. I have no idea what kind of products OP has been involved in launching, but based on his suggestions I do know they weren’t any kind of entertainment media. While there have been some pretty obvious missteps, HB have done a lot of things right that they’re not getting enough credit for.
  22. If you need help I’m available. We can Marie Kondo this place.
  23. The order in which which I lose my mad skillz is 1) The pattern. Couple of days without flying it and I get messy. 2) Full cold starts. (Mostly relevant to the more involved startups like Ka-50 or P-51.) A week without one and I’m struggling. 3) Weapons procedures. Related to #2 4) AAR. Much less of a issue since going VR, but I used to lose it in about a week. 5) Traps. They’ve honestly never been a problem for me, I can consistently catch a 2 or 3 wire without issue. The occasional bolter if I’m tired but I don’t think I’ve ever wrecked on or into the carrier.
  24. Man I’ve been wanting to post this forEVER! What is there, 20, wait no, nearly 30 sticky’s up there, two thirds of which are no longer relevant? Like why is ralfi’s livestream a sticky? How about combining all those random updates into one locked sticky that only HB can touch (as has been suggested multiple times)! HB, clean your room!!
  25. Wow, this info seems to have flown over everyone’s heads, so to speak. I had no idea the process was now so rigorous. Bumping the FM, systems, procedures against real world documentation and requiring rectification of discrepancies is how it should be done in a study sim. I honestly thought the approval process was closer to “does it approximate the real aircraft? check. does it crash the game? nope? ok have fun.” Kudos to ED for upping their quality standards. It’s extremely cool to learn this is how ED is doing things now. Thanks for the insight Norm.
