Yep, it’s literally one parameter change. To find and open the file and correct it would take less than 20 seconds. I know because that’s what I do every update. If they intended to correct the gun they would have a long time ago (like 10+ years ago when the FC F-15 was released, there were threads about it then too).

I’ve actually been thinking about this recently...why on earth, after all these years, has ED not fixed their broken spray-and-pray M61. In the numerous threads on the subject there is ample official documentation and examples of its 8 mil accuracy. ED won’t even comment on or acknowledge the problem. I speculate that it’s actually one of those deliberate fudges that they introduce to keep their modules from being “too real”. At least that’s the only reason I can come up with. I’m also really glad HB went their own way with the gun.
-
Definitely not MP exclusive as I don’t play MP.
-
Nobody’s angry though. Well, one guy was kind of rude, but almost everyone that’s posted in this thread has praised HB’s Tomcat. And this isn’t sudden. The sound quality has been mentioned since HB started posting videos at least a year ago. They’d say “placeholder” or “wip”, but now that the module is public people are giving feedback, as they should. Interesting. I’ll have to play with those when I get home...at the end of the week. : (

I know the sounds were called out early and often as needing improvement and I don't know why HB's so stubborn about maintaining the status quo, but there's definitely no need for accusations or name calling. Cobra and crew have been friendly and open to suggestions from the start, even in the face of a sometimes hostile community. Just today they said they'd modify the SW tone that was giving people fits, among many many other suggestions they've listened to.

 that shitshow was awful and hilarious at the same time.

If I eject at a low-ish altitude, guesstimate around 1000ft. or less, my pilot will usually die before the chute opens. Initiate eject, pilot gets shot out, instantly poofs into a camera zoom-out. Occasionally he doesn’t die and descends down to a phantom ‘ground’ a few hundred feet above the real ground. He’ll stand still up in the air for 3-5 seconds, then fall down to the actual ground and die. The problem seems to be module agnostic. It happens consistently in the Ka-50, F-18, and F-14. This started happening with one of the February updates but I haven’t seen any posts on it. Is anyone else experiencing this?
-
I think we were all happy ED made some progress last year, but yeah, it’s still an issue for all aircraft and the Tomcat is particularly affected currently. If you’re doing a cold start it’ll slide halfway across the ship before you’re up and running.
-
This is my experience as well riding back seat in 15’s, 16’s, and T-38’s. I don’t know about the F-14 but in 15’s and 16’s there was also a cacophony of electronics cooling fans prior to and along with ECS. I was pretty sure there was a healthy mix of airframe wind noise while airborne as well but it’s been almost 15 years since I sat in a fighter. I understand that there should be some audible feedback for cockpit interactions, I just think HB went far too extreme and it hurts the overall experience of an otherwise brilliant simulation.
-
This is pretty disappointing honestly. As good as everything else is in the Tomcat, the exterior and interior sounds are sorely lacking. The shake and rattle are well done and pretty realistic from my experience, but the cockpit switches and afterburner sounds are hugely over represented. Tbh it sounds like Ace Combat arcade sounds, especially the afterburner. The canopy and airframe wind noise is also far too weak, so much so that when Jester (unnecessarily) punches out, the most prominent sounds are still the switches clicking and the throttle clacking. The wind just sounds like a quiet, breezy spring afternoon when it should be the ONLY environmental sound you hear in that situation. I get it that all the sim kids here are super happy that they can hear all this stuff, but that’s just not what it sounds like in a tactical aircraft. When HB said they were taking a ‘dramatic license’ approach with the sounds it had me worried. Unfortunately I feel we got a worst case scenario. Arcade. Imo the F-14 is on its way to being one of the best modules in DCS, but also the module with the worst sound profile. Sorry for the rant. Hopefully some talented modders out there can fix the situation.

Same. Anyone know what to change in the config until we get a permanent fix?

Thanks Mav. Hm, works for me. Regional block? -

Single Player for me too. And I got the tracks. The first two are from a Carrier Group template, first with a deck crew mod, second without. Third track is a totally fresh mission, just me and the boat. Zero successful launches. Failed Lauch.trk Failed Lauch2.trk Failed Lauch3.trk -
[BUG] F-14 Won't Launch From Carrier, All Parameters Met
SonofEil replied to SonofEil's topic in Bugs and Problems
Spent the last hour and a half trying to make some tracks but I got the "stuck tail hook" bug on every. single. trap. and couldn't even get to the catapults to re-launch. Mission was just me and the boat on the PG Map. For me at least until this is cleaned up quite a bit, carrier ops are far too unreliable to be usable. EDIT: Here's someone else's video of the problem. I've been able to launch a couple of times by saluting at engines idle, but even that is inconsistent. -
[KNOWN ISSUE WIP] Arrestor cable stuck in hook.
SonofEil replied to diditopgun's topic in Bugs and Problems
This isn't a MP only issue, I've experienced a stuck hook two or three times in SP (out of maybe 20 traps). Raising or lowering hook doesn't release it. Got it to release one time by taxiing back to approach side of boat, other time had to exit game. EDIT: Just flew a virgin mission for some other bug testing, just me and an empty boat. Got the stuck hook on every single trap, probably five times in a row. Had to exit mission each time. -
Trying to change the Transmit buttons since it's a major conflict with F-14 bindings, but the VA configurator won't recognize the new buttons at all. I click the little reset arrow, then move the button I'm trying to bind (left index finger hat) but nothing registers. I can reset and re-bind the default left thumb buttons but not anything new. Suggestions?
-
Still a problem and hasn't been acknowledged after two updates. Screws up any carrier ops. If I start on the catapult or hot start the mission I can get launched once. After the trap I taxi back to the catapult, kneel and hook to shuttle, wings and flaps, power up, wipe, salute...nothing. 80% of the time I haven’t been able to do a second cat shot. Problem since release: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=235476 I'll try to get some tracks and youtube vids posted tonight.

Wags only briefly mentioned it in the Alert 5 interview, but on The Fighter Pilot Podcast he and Jell-O discussed it at some length. ED deliberately does not match certain performance characteristics of the real aircraft specifically to prevent the simulation from being used as a training or tactical aid. https://www.fighterpilotpodcast.com/episodes/028-air-combat-simulation-gaming/ The whole episode is worth a listen but the parts where Jell-O (former F-18C pilot) tries the sim are kind of cringy. The sound is pretty terrible and Jell-O had obviously never interacted with a consumer flight sim before and kept confusing ED and Thrustmaster. He was overall impressed with ED's F-18 though.

I’ve experienced death by PowerPoint in many briefings, trainings, seminars, etc., military and civilian. Instructors/presenters use it as an excuse to be lazy, creating slides of bullet points and then directly reading those bullet points verbatim. Drives me crazy and makes me wish I had rotten fruit to chuck their direction. But I’ve also seen PP used to it’s full potential! It’s a powerful tool when used properly and like any tool its effectiveness depends on the person wielding it. I think the hate PP gets is a little unjustified. Most peoples frustrations can be attributed to bad/lazy presenters.

To expand on that, you should know that the simulated fly-by-wire F-18 Flight Control System (if that's what you're used to) literally prevents you from over-G'ing the aircraft (in most circumstances), similar to how it works in the real F-18. You can throw your home cockpit joystick to its bumper stops and the (simulated) F-18 FCS will prevent the flight controls from actuating far enough to cause damage to the airframe. The F-14 doesn't have a computer between you and the control surfaces. It's all hydraulics, bell cranks and cables. As felt at your joystick, DCS can't simulate increasing load on those surfaces, or the physiological effects of G on your person. That means you can yank your stick full aft and break the wings with ease in the simulator. On non fly-by-wire aircraft in DCS, such as the F-14, you have to monitor the G-meter to prevent damage to systems, avionics and the airframe. It seems Heatblur has simulated this to a greater degree than we're used to. (A good thing, imo.)

With no Chuck's Guide, please recommend best material to read on F-14
SonofEil replied to redmantab's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
IIRC, Naquaii is practically the only person working on the HB manual. That is a monumental task for one person. I think the template he’s created and the info we have so far is great. Yeah it’s currently surface level overview stuff but if it gets fleshed out how I assume HB plans to, it’ll be the best manual in DCS by far. And as cumbersome as it is, we do still have access to 99% of what we need in NATOPS. And there are new YouTube tutorials going up faster than I can watch them. We’ll be alright. -
Perfect thank you! I thought it was being appropriately trained in the VAICOM training. EDIT: I'm also running into problems In the VAICOM training where Windows thinks I'm giving OS commands when I say words like "Copy" (it'll highlight and copy the proceeding words) and "Strike" (it will delete the next word I say). When I say "Go to 'X'", Windows will just place the cursor in front of 'X' instead of registering the training phrase. In-game when speaking to my wingman, "Two" registers as "To" ~75% of the time. "RTB" is usually "are TB" even though RTB is a manually entered dictionary word. With AWACS "Request Vector to 'X'" registers in VA correctly but AWACS doesn't respond. Etc. etc. etc. I'm on day two, hour 8-ish of trying to set this up with a <50% in-game success rate so frustrations are clearly starting to mount. I'm in a quiet room with a good mic, sound is through headphones, and I speak and clearly annunciate unaccented American English. In the training I have a >95% recognition rate on almost every word (minus airport names). Manual is read, tutorials watched and I can't seem to get this to work worth a damn. Is this the typical experience?

I’m disappointed we’re not getting a guide but I also know ITAR isn’t something to be eff’d with. Chuck’s definitely ok in my book. As heated as it can sometimes get in this community I think most people have good intentions. There are only a small handful of forum members I would consider legitimate trolls. Trev is one of them. -
I'm trying to air refuel. When I say "Ready Precontact", VA only recognizes it as "Prix Contact". So I went through the 500 word training (skipping almost every airport in PG Map because it was impossible to get the computer to understand any of it), "Precontact" was recognized correctly by the training and Microsoft microphone thingy, went back in game and VA still only recognizes "Prix Contact". How do I fix this?
