  1. I definitely appreciate that. I built my rig in 2017 specifically for an Oculus “CV2”, more or less hoping they’d continue to lead the market. After more than a year of no news from them (on the PC front at least) I finally said screw it and bought the gen 1 Odyssey. That Oculus is just now releasing a comparable device (inferior in certain ways)- almost halfway through 2019 - is baffling to me. Regarding price, some of the high res offerings that match or exceed the Rift S specs, including gen 1 Odyssey, can easily be found now for sub-$300. I’ve even seen the high res HP unit for ~$200. Anyway, get what you want to get obviously. The more VR options available the better it is for everyone. Enjoy!
  2. And that’s cool, I get that. But there have been similarly spec’d headsets out since 2017. Has everyone really just been waiting for Oculus to make one?
  3. Man, I’m failing to see any justification for the excitement. Wags likes it. Cool. Besides that, it’s a mid cycle update that brings the Rift in line with where their competitors were 18 months ago, literally a catch-up device to keep Rift relevant in a much more crowded field than in 2016. Other than brand loyalty, what’s the actual interest in the S, what am I failing to see here?
  4. Not if you're playing back carrier ops it doesn't.
  5. Similar to the "talk to me goose" suggestion, I recently watched Speed and Angles and during carrier recoveries Meagan's RIO was giving constant vertical speed callouts. I know Jester gives height AGL when on final to an airfield, but it'd be nice if he did something useful like v-speeds during carrier landings also.
  6. I spend ~99% of my time in SP and never encountered it. I’ve only experienced the bug in MP maybe twice in roughly four hours of online play.
  7. Battlefield Earth is an abomination...and I'm kind of glad it exists as a warning against vanity/propaganda projects. Tbh though I don't even remember Harriers in the movie, or any jets at all for that matter. The True Lies Harrier scenes are iconic though! Everything in that movie is done with a wink and a nod, don't take it so seriously. And the effects still look better than a lot of the CGI shit that's released today! It was Ahnold in his prime!
  8. Ha, the very title of this thread is pure bait. A know-it-all or two took it hook line and sinker, as expected. Your write ups are interesting and informative so at least we have that. Though at this point I think they’re deserving of their own thread.
  9. I think you can disable modules, and presumably maps, in the Module Manager at the top of the DCS start screen. I did this with the WWII Assets Pack because I just don’t use them and they were cluttering up the Mission Editor. Whether or not updates are still downloaded for disabled modules I don’t know.
  10. I’m totally gonna nullify those gains by quadrupling my pixel count with a new headset. ; ) Seriously though, a 50% performance improvement is an incredible claim. Experience has taught me to be skeptical of those, and very skeptical of the word “soon”. Here’s hoping this is the exception!
  11. I wonder if this also causes the snap blackouts I’ll sometimes experience in MP (of which I’m an admitted total noob). It seems much easier to go full G-LOC when pulling low-ish even, consistent g’s. I’ll have the mild peripheral fuzzies then *poof* total blackout. Never happens to me in SP.
  12. Yeah Wag’s consistent Hornet updates now give me mild anxiety, with each one I can feel myself falling further behind! By necessity (mostly time constraints) I’m a one-plane-at-a-time DCS player, with a helicopter as my side piece. Unfortunately I’m probably done with serious Hornet play now that we have the F-14. Time will tell though.
  13. Haha, I also just flew the Hornet for the first time since the Tomcat release and the thing that really stood out to me was the HUD. All that glorious, glorious information right there in front of your face. It was honestly a bit overwhelming.
  14. I definitely see decreasing FF with altitude gained. It’s not as easily noticeable as in the F-18 where at mil power you’ll see 120 each engine at sea level and 32 each at FL380, but there’s a clear difference. Also notice that on our current (incorrect) tapes the scale condenses by more than double above 5k PPH, so throttle and altitude changes cause significantly smaller tape movements when FF is already above 5k PPH. And as noted above, afterburner is not reflected in the FF tapes at all.
  15. What? No! Those are things that were promised for the Huey we have now! They were either never delivered or quickly broken. And you’d be ok with them not delivering, but charging full price again with the promise to deliver next time?! How very Russian of them, and you! Precisely. They’re still selling it full price and it was already bugged to hell by the time I bought it. They’re not extorting another dime from me.
  16. Sweet mother of... That’s amazing! If you can do that consistently with success, bravo sir! If the plane can handle that consistently with success, HB you’ve got a lot of work to do on your damage model and ground handling physics!
  17. So current SOP is to exit out of DCS altogether any time you need to respawn? Tonight was my first time dipping my toe in MP (after 10 years with DCS!), got blown up during my first taxi. Spent almost 30 minutes trying to cold start multiple jets, no right engines will start. Finally said screw it, called it a night.
  18. Good! Drives me nuts we can land so overweight and fast with no consequences, in the 14 and 18.
  19. OK. I'm good. Wiped everything Thrustmaster from my computer and then followed the bootloader instructions: http://ts.thrustmaster.com/download/accessories/pc/hotas/manual/HOTAS_Warthog/HWarthog_Bootloader_Method.pdf Stick, Throttle and Firmware was successfully recognized again, but the axis's were still super screwed up. Calibrated with your provided tools again, no worky. I finally deleted the calibration tools, re-downloaded, extracted...and the calibrations worked (mostly)! I think the calibration tools weren't recognizing the included .txt files for some reason (A10_calibration and A10JoystickCalibration). I had an error regarding those files a couple times. The ministick mod was working better, non-spastic, but still wouldn't take a good centering. Calibrated everything again with Windows Calibration and now it's all perfect. That was certainly an ordeal. Thanks again for the help!
  20. Mine is a very early Warthog, Serial 322. Updated firmware to both flight control stick and throttle with original nipple slew attached. Then followed mod install and calibration instructions to the letter and now nothing is working. The slightest movement of the warthog flight control stick makes very spastic full deflection movements in-game. My throttle range is now only a few centimeters near full throttle. Mod stick and slider also have very small ranges and extremely spastic movements within those ranges. Multiple recalibrations with your provided tools do not help, neither does windows calibration. I'm totally dead in the water here. Help please.
  21. I never used the body until going VR. Now it’s a necessity. In the Hornet since I never hide the stick, I re-mapped Backspace to pilot body. I’m waiting to do the same in the Cat.
  22. Yes please, ASAP!
  23. Hey Heatblur, can we get this to be repairable please? If someone likes to do full alignment cold starts (me) and only has time for maybe one flight a night (me, tonight) it’d be really nice to be able to repair the nws if one accidentally twists the LG handle while attempting to check the refuel probe (yeah, me again).
  24. I actually encountered the 'bug' on 3/31, thought "what the hell was that?!!?!, Looks like I just entered the ficken MATRIX!!!" Figured it was a bug, restarted DCS and haven't seen it since. When I came to the forums morning of 4/1, I saw 'Matrix' threads and thought "oh yeah, I had that". As soon as I learned it was an April Fools joke I was thoroughly impressed. A sneakily clever and fun little joke, on the 20th anniversary of the movie no less. What I didn't do is flip the hell out and burn my computer down. It's DCS, known to have the occasional bug.:music_whistling: I'll suggest to the grumps here for any future like situations, pranks or not, check the damn forums before you smoke your install. It's a little unbelievable that some people spent multiple hours gutting their PC without having done even cursory research on the issue. That's on you. ED, that was hands down the best and least expected April Fools joke I've seen in years.
  25. I’ve asked him to spot while in the close presence of bandits and he’s doesn’t say anything. Is anything at all actually supposed to happen when spot is selected?
