Historically, I only used stable.... Supercarrier changed that!

The latest update to VIACOM works very well. You need to pay a couple of $ for the add on though. You can also define keypresses for hornet ball and salute..... I personally have salute assigned to the same HOTAS switch (warthog pinky switch) as my lights on/off. Since I believe cycling your lights is the night time equivalent anyway.

TM Warthog throttle base keys
Ourorborus replied to SKIPPY 7-7's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Left right across the bottom : undercarriage, hook, fcs reset(button), battery (3 way) Moving up from there: trim reset(button) rudder trim(wheel), fuel probe The next two are the 3position with the sprung up. These are set up for left and right engines.... Sprung up is the starter centre is gen off. Down is gen on. That way I can spring select the starter and then engage the gems once started. The top two are landing light and master arm -
Agree, please don't do the 90s click on an image to go somewhere idea. Clearly labelled options is the way to go.

I understand it is in development, and I am sure it will be an improvement once released. However I am not holding my breath. In 30 years of flight simming I have never seen a decent ATC implementation. I understand as an ATC by profession my bar is probably higher than most, but developers always get fundamental things wrong. I can only assume this is because they try to emulate a rather narrow functionality by using simple scripts. What I would love to see. ATC that is aware of other aircraft - after all separation is the entire purpose of ATC Proper CTZ/CTR boundaries /entry exit gates as opposed to calling inbound at some random location. (don't care if they are real world accurate just be there) ATIS (with QNH not QFE) Bin the engine start request - this is rarely required Correct phraseology. Separate APR/TWR/SMC/Finals etc The Supercarrier comms are a good step forward but still a long way to go.

Happened to me during dawn raid f18 mission. Taxied right up my bum. Then during alert 5 (modded to use super carrier) after we somked the bandits my no2 for on my right wing wings overlapping!! No amount I'd widen up commands moved him so I told him to rtb, at with point he rammed me out of the sky....... Latest OB

I have the same issue with bars..... Also have lost my range select. The arrows are gone and moving tdc up and back doesn't work either.

Thank you kind Sir.

Now I see what I am doing wrong!!!! I am trying to stay upright while landing!!!!!!!

Does T.A.R.G.E.T Software Enhance DCS Enough to Use?
Ourorborus replied to Flightsmmr's topic in Thrustmaster
Didn't use it for years then I downloaded the F18.... Needed it for two/three way switches to work. Now I use Gizzy's profile on the throttle for all aircraft. I understand it can do a lot more such as having "shift" like functions to give buttons multi use. Not for me but some find that aspect useful. -
You Sir are a genius!!!!! +1000

8 Hours now!! If ED can't get their days right I am so boycotting this sim!!!!!! :megalol: #NETRAGE!!!

You mean the canopy blows off if I don't close it?!?! I've got to try that one!!!:thumbup:

Thank you kindly, I was under the mistaken impression that LATL LCTRl C only worked once in game as it wasn't working for me. It turns out I had the Keypress option turned off!!! I found a combination of latest VIACOM PRO, Ticked OB and deleting Export.lua from saved games directory worked for me.

ATC is normally VHF. Especially Civil Aerodromes. Military Aerdromes often have VHF/UHF repeated. Mission Comms are normally UHF. HF is used for long range comms where SATCOM is not available. Not by anyway hard rules and COMMS plans can be complicated beasts that must take into account the various equipment of all participants.

Not sure if the sim accurately models temp gradients but anti icing is not normally based on surface temps. Basically, the air gets colder as you get higher. (at least in the troposphere where most aviation occurs) Preflight planning will identify what levels freezing is likely to occur. This is dependant on moisture temperature and aircraft specifics performance.

Is there a way to know the real heading of a runway b4 takeoff?
Ourorborus replied to testudine2002's topic in General Bugs
Airfield plates will provide this information. And you are correct that the actual heading may be a little different to the numbers. There are several reasons for this: a. Movement of the magnetic poles over time b. Poor surveying c. Avoidance of certain runway combinations e.g 20/02 d. Avoidance of similarly named runways on aerodromes in close proximity. Real aircrew do a quick check that their compass and DG align with the expected runway heading before rolling. It is a final check that the instruments are correct before getting airborne. If you don't want to look at plates, you can use the reverse to find the runway heading...…… If your DG is aligned by INS (as it is in many of the aircraft simulated in DCS) then look at your heading before you roll...…. I use this before carrier launch to ascertain the BRC since the ATC is so useless. -
How do I tick that box without starting DCS?

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
Ourorborus replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks Andre. I will look elsewhere for increasing the output. Love your work by the way, a huge improvement to the game! -
It's not the strange looks … its the sudden hand on my shoulder mid furball.

Wind direction - Briefing and ME - still a mess
Ourorborus replied to Flamin_Squirrel's topic in General Bugs
I too find DCS confusing in this regard. Most of the world report Wind as the direction from and use QNH for altimeter setting. I have never flown or controlled in Russia but I am lead to believe Russia uses wind to and QFE settings. I have controlled Russian aircraft and their occasional confusion in this regard would support this. Unfortunately I think the minority case (Russia) appears to have been implemented in DCS, and is consequently not seen as a bug. Further refinement would be regarding True vs Magnetic. Navies use true, often even for aircraft ops. ATIS is magnetic. METAR/TAFs are true. The general rule (with many exceptions) is written weather information is given in true whereas spoken wind information is in Magnetic. However the International standard is that the direction is a "from" direction. -
[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
Ourorborus replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Recently got this add on and love it. Still tweaking the sound files to work well with the dynamic range of my home made drivers. I do have one stupid question though. How do I have permanently raise the volume setting? Every time I start DCS (and thus simshaker) the volume reverts to 50%. -
dr your point is well made and highlights the limitation of the Early Access Model. Most of the money is made on modules in early access so when the funds run short the only solution is to release another module in early access.... and thus it perpetuates and nothing is ever really finished. (I mean no disrespect to the awesome team at EA, If I did not think your product was the best/most enjoyable/most detailed sim available I wouldn't be here.) As a result user's get frustrated by the feeling of paying for incomplete products. This is compounded when asked to pay in advance for an early access product that is then delayed. (aka Supercarrier) This would pale in comparison however to the user dissatisfaction generated from a subscription model. It is known as ransomware as no matter how many thousands of dollars you have already spent on the software, you lose it all if you don't pay the next months fee. Perhaps there is some value in admitting the perfect sim is unobtainable by a small team and look at what has worked for X-plane and MSFS for decades. Opening the SDK somewhat to allow third parties to develop things like improved clouds etc. I too would love better VR support and clouds that don't rotate, and I know if this were a problem in X-plane there would be a third party module that fixes it. At last count I think there were about 8 third party add ons to fix Xplane ATC. All different dependant on the desired user experience (accuracy/ feel/ multiplayer/etc). I love the detail and sense of purpose this sim has and would hate to see ED go under due to losing a significant portion of its user base due to an ill conceived idea about ransomware.

You eject?!?! I can proudly say I never have to eject...……….. the enemy usually shoots me down too quick to get a chance!
