  1. Regarding the ET it is important to remember its uses: - Firing on a fleeing opponenet - Firing on an opponenet at higher altitude - Firing at very low altitude When some combination of these situations is in place it becomes necessary to have a missile with a longer burn time and ballistic range (even at true ranges which are close enough for the IR seeker to lock). As it currently stands the ET is one of the most effective weapons for low altitude combat.
  2. I've been having quite a bit of trouble. Part of it may be that I am using an old logitech stick (after my X-52 gave out). I've found flying with the autopilot disengaged really improves the experience. However, I still cannot reliably hit anything with rockets. This is the main reason why I don't fly DCS.
  3. Wouldn't a subsonic anti-shipping missile make more sense (or a Kh-31)? I'd personally much rather have a LAU-68 (who needs extra ammunition?) or a KAB-500L...
  4. Can't the Su-33 gain a limited anti-shipping capability using the Kopyo pod?
  5. Okay, best of luck. If you want some help tracking down payload combinations you can send me a PM. I'm not as much of an expert as some people (operational aircrews etc.), but I have some resources.
  6. In all past flyall mods there has been a problem getting most guided weapon systems to work. Sometimes AAMs, unguided bombs and rockets would work. Unfortunately, systems like the Kh-29L (on Su-24, Su-30) and SPPU-22 (Su-17 and Mig-27) wouldn't work.
  7. Right... If only that were true... Be glad that we don't have a YA-10B... ;)
  8. The guarantees made by ED satisfy me. In particular, the fact that more activations can be obtained with valid proof-of-purchase and that a no-DRM patch will be offered if ED were to close down is considerable comfort. Even if these promises couldn't be kept, I'd view the statements as a justifiable cause for by-passing the DRM in such a situation. So I, as a long standing opponent of DRM, am actually quite satisified with ED's approach (now that the two policies above have been added). I feel I own the game, rather than renting (limited activations without a chance to have them refilled) or becoming ensurfed (having core game components kept in a central server). Thanks ED.
  9. Yes, but if you run out of activations you can send live video of yourself and your DVD case/disk (along with your old dead computers) to ED and they may give you more activations. I've always felt that it would be more difficult to prove that you own a legitimate copy if you don't have anything in hard form.
  10. "A few 10s of kts" is quite enough to cause problems if you're only flying at 120kts
  11. FC 2.0 has a number of new features - it is actually somewhat more advanced than DCS:BS. Which means that DCS both needs an upgrade for online compatibility and gets an upgrade for "yipee! we get a bonus patch for DCS!"
  12. Ef-2000 is definitely one of the top sims made. I think it even tops my first sim (SWOTL). The Fjords! Diving through clouds to loose IR missiles. Lonely, isolated battle damaged flights home from the north... and the music. The days when designers could guesstimate so much - without becoming arcadish. The sheer style.
  13. As pointed out this doesn't work for the beam-riding Vikhr/9a1472. However, I believe it works for the Kh-25 (in DCS at least I've noticed that my sensor automatically acquires and gives the launch cue during anti-shipping runs in which multiple Ka-50s are designating/attacking the same ship) + 1 for thrusting in ED (it is nice to trust others' research once in a while).
  14. I tend to only use six hardpoints. I've found it is generally more important to have good handling and that a lighter payload gets the job done equally well if you aim carefully enough. In real life it is usually possible to talk the C/O into letting you fly with slightly reduced ordnance loads. It'll be a real pity if we can't do this in a convenient way. It really matters for the mud movers.
  15. There were modernisation kits that would allow Mig-29's radar to simultaneously engage two targets with SARH R-27R. However, I'm not sure if any were purchased or who they are serving with.
  16. Need more info: Height/airspeed of launch? Number of bombs in ripple (and type/hardpoint)?
  17. Yeah, but it is hard to read something that is on your forehead... At least for me. I also try not to stare too much at other people's foreheads. And a sticky in that spot would block my third eye...
  18. Better than me! One note though: Power lines used to have a collision effect in LOMAC - but they didn't do any damage to the aircraft. This was changed in DCS and as LOFC2 is using the DCS engine/environment I'd assume that they are dangerous now.
  19. You guys are all talking about the nose right? *lol*
  20. Just buy it! (and fill in those of us waiting for the boxed copy with your observations...)
  21. Ha! I'm currently running FC on a broken (higher rendering functions cause a VPU crash) ATI 128mb card.
