For some reason, adding waypoint actions doesn't work. The actions have grey text and do not execute in the mission. In this screenshot, I tried to restrict afterburners and weapons jettison. The text is greyed out. Am I missing something here?

Custom flight model crash/freeze when ejecting
Sérvalpilot replied to Sérvalpilot's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
UPDATE: I discovered that while the "DCS has crashed" error message is up and I try to close DCS itself, the simulation resumes when the "are you sure" prompt shows up. This makes the issue a bit more weird to me. -
Dogfights with the AI (modern fighters)
Sérvalpilot replied to Sérvalpilot's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
Thanks for the suggestions! I think the AI physics is a big part of my frustration. The other day I noticed that a loaded Su-27 without afterburners could fly faster than me in my guns-only MiG-29 WITH afterburners. -
Hi! I'm not sure where else to put this post. I'm trying to practice dogfighting with guns only against AI fighters and it's pretty difficult even with the AI "skill" set to the lowest. Doing maneuvers like barrel rolls, yo-yo, horizontal scissors, and others don't work most of the time. I've been mainly trying with the MiG-29, Su-27, Mirage-2000C and F-15C. The AI always seems to have better turn rates and acceleration. Sometimes they just orbit at high altitude (~8 Km+) for some reason. I know about maintaining momentum and balancing turn rate with speed, but the AI just seems to good at it on the lowest "difficulty". I wonder if the AI's flight model has something to do with this, or maybe there's stuff I'm missing, or both. Anyways, I'd like to know of any guides out there that could help me out. Thanks!

Hi! I've encountered a problem with my custom flight model. Every time I try to eject, or the pilot dies, DCS crashes and I have to forcefully close it. When this happens, the last 4 lines of the log file are: 2023-07-10 15:17:12.315 INFO APP (Main): invalid input at index 0 in ed_fm_add_local_force 2023-07-10 15:17:12.315 INFO APP (Main): invalid input at index 0 in ed_fm_add_local_moment 2023-07-10 15:17:12.325 INFO APP (Main): invalid input at index 0 in ed_fm_add_local_force 2023-07-10 15:17:12.325 INFO APP (Main): invalid input at index 0 in ed_fm_add_local_moment 2023-07-10 15:17:12.325 INFO APP (Main): invalid input at index 0 in ed_fm_add_local_force 2023-07-10 15:17:12.325 INFO APP (Main): invalid input at index 0 in ed_fm_add_local_moment When the source code is identical to the template, I get to collect additional crash info. I know about external flight models and mods that have them like the A-4, and OV-10. I'm working on one of my own right now! All I'm wondering is if the GFM update will make player aircraft that use the SFM less awkward and jittery (and disorienting in VR). The GFM demo video from December 2021 looks quite impressive and much smoother, so we'll just have to wait and see.
-
I'm wondering if the general flight model (GFM) will replace the standard flight model (SFM) used as the default for player-controlled aircraft. Several mods like the JAS-39 Gripen, F-22 Raptor, Su-57 Felon, among others, use the SFM, which feels awkward, jittery, and can induce motion sickness in VR. I made a video a while back demonstrating the bizarre flight behaviour of the SFM, especially when the aircraft gets stuck and loses all angular momentum when in a stall. Will the GFM get rid of this weird flight behaviour for community aircraft? Also, can we expect the GFM to be implemented this year? Thanks!

How to Blender 2.8 EDM Expoter and INGAME integration
Sérvalpilot replied to Grajo's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
Hi! I've been experimenting with lights and I encountered a little problem. My dummy light emitter object shines light on other objects in the model viewer just fine, but not in DCS itself. Any ideas? Good work on the exporter! -
[ALL MODULES][SP/CO-OP] Liberation Dynamic Campaign
Sérvalpilot replied to shdwp's topic in User Created Missions General
Hi! I'm trying to implement a mod, following the guides at https://github.com/dcs-liberation/dcs_liberation/wiki/Modded-Aircraft-Support and https://github.com/dcs-liberation/dcs_liberation/wiki/Developer's-Guide . The problem is that I can't run Liberation. I tried running it from source in PyCharm but I get this error: Is there something I'm missing? Alternatively, is there a way to integrate a mod without using the dev branch?null Great work with Liberation as it is, by the way! -
I found some screenshots I took before most of the core lua files were locked. Remember when stuff like this was possible? (Su-27 with R-77s and no intake pylons) Or this? (Su-25(A) with no pylons) Remember when we could also modify weapon parameters to make them more fair or balanced? Remember when we could do all this stuff and more without affecting other players' experiences because there was an integrity check system that permitted these modifications in singleplayer only? Those were good times. I think being able to have modded stuff like this in the "saved games" folder but preventing the user from accessing multiplayer (as before) would be a good compromise.

I noticed those issues too during testing. The MiG-31 is weird, and I haven't figured out how to fix it. Sorry! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Axis throttle control works fine for me. You could try clearing all axis bindings and then remapping them manually.

Hi! This solution fixes the flipping, which is great, but missile smoke trails and contrails have a sine-wave look to them. You mentioned something about reducing segment length to fix this effect, so where can I find that? Cheers!

Getting into a dogfight with a fighter just makes them do loops over and over again. No hard turns, breaks, rolls, or anything. Just constantly pitching up with full afterburners. When engaging a plane that's not a fighter, they just keep flying along their route and don't react to getting shot at. Having them do evasive maneuvers and try to shake off their opponents would make air-to-air combat a lot more interesting.
-
It's weird. For me, I hear the engine noises before the sonic boom, which makes no sense!
-
The air-to-air gun mode isn't very good to be honest, but there is a way to make it somewhat useful. Just above the HUD (VTH) power switch, there's a switch that adjusts the gunsight prediction mode. Set it to "PRED" (predictive). Also, whenever you see a double triangle, that means your shots will land on your target.

The sound files were locked for some reason in DCS 2.5.6 I think. You would need to get the files by downgrading to 2.5.5, where the files are not encrypted. Check out this guide to figure out how to do that: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3319842/. The files are under sounds>speech>sound. After you replace the files you want, you can have them work in 2.7 if you put in your saved games > DCS folder; so saved games >DCS >sounds>speech. Make sure to have the same file structure! I know it's a lot to go through, but it's possible.

@Airbarba Here you go! WEAPONS_AIR_AIR.lua Now it should be more like the AIM-120C. As for the model; it's better than the one in DCS but it's hollow. You can see inside it through (what's supposed to be) the engine nozzle, which is really bizarre and the creator REALLY needs to fix that. If it bothers you as much as it did for me, take this file and put it in the shapes folder. MICA_NG.edm It will replace the model with the one that's already in DCS. It's not as detailed, but at least you can't see through it.

Hey! I agree, the Meteor is ridiculous; so I fixed it. WEAPONS_AIR_AIR.lua <- Drag this file into the "weapons" folder and overwrite the existing one. I mixed data for the AIM-120C and R-33, so it's a lot more realistic. Also while you're at it; have you noticed the 3D model looks a bit squashed or flattened; and the bottom fins are longer than the top ones? I made a more realistic 3D model. Check it out if you want!
