RTX 4080 & 7900 XTX/XT benchmarks DCS
Thinder replied to xoxen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I don't expect the AMD card to trounce the Nvidia one, we knew for month it won't, but like you, I chose what I need according to my own requirements, but I'm tired of this childish B.S one vs the other just doesn't cut it for me. I want my system to run at 4K 2 X MSAA with high settings at reasonable frame rates, not the "fastest" card around and what matters to me most is that it will be able to do it at low power settings and low temperatures, just imagine the B.S I read about it compared to the tests I watched, it's pitiful. Players should be free to chose without having to go through this sort of things and it's not the first time I see and AMD topic spammed with B.S, makes me feel even more like buying all-AMD. -

And every two years your bunch is gonna come up with the same AMD bashing up, tons of chest banging about your NVIDIA card with yet no serious data about how reliable the AMD card is, same for the CPUs, we see it like noses in the middle of faces. AT EVERY SINGLE OPPORTUNITY. You guys makes me laugh, I chosed my motherboarsd not because it is the fastest but because it has tons of USB 3.0 + hubs and runs cooler than most. The card I chose will not run at the same FPS but who cares 20 fps more when it will run at temps as low as 72°C and I don't give a toss your pathologic habbits of going into every single AMD topics to display this cognitive behavior, you wanna show off? Open your damned own topic and give us a break with the B.S or get help, ho, btw how many of those marvels did catch fire lately? Did you see AMD users rot the Nvidia topics? So just get a bleeming life. Cheers. -

Very useful, I'll use it even with an AMD card... -

You're all drawing conclusions on cards which for most part aren't even available yet... They all have issues at launch, So I am not concerned by my choice and no it's not NVidia... -
It's both. Pico's Streaming Assistant doesn't connect even if all lights are green including Steam VR and the connection, Wi-Fi or USB, Steam VR doesn't detect the headset. I'm waiting for Pico to come up with an laternative to the pruchase of Virtual Desktop which might (or not) help. Ah OK. Here is some news. I wanted to update my 1080Ti drivers before testing it vs my new card which is scheduled for delivery today, then I realized that I lost Nvidia Control Panel, now unavailable anywhere else than Microsoft Store. Excuse me? I'm pleased I swaped to AMD...

Went from 2080 to 7900XTX.

In theory I should get mine within a week, I'll be starting to set up my system and conduct back-to-back tests on 3D Mark first before getting into DCS. I'll post my results in a relevant topic if not this one. Happy New Year. Update: It's been shiped to me today. -
I had issues with Steam VR before, my G2 had a hard time being detected and later packed up as well, which mean that passed the fact that I think of this package as mediocre at best, I didn't expect to have the same issue with my brand new PICO4. So here is the score: PICO propose a native (in game menu) version of Virtual Desktop, but I can't purchase it because the only way to do it, through my Android is buggy, I can't add a payment method to my PICO account, so no joy there. Then Steam VR refuses to detect my headset, even so Windows 10 does, be it WiFi or USB, no luck there either. In both cases there is a ticket with the support teams of those companies. I can't believe that in 2022, we're still looking at issues of this kind, it seems that the only thing that really attract developers attention is the amount of dosh we spend on their products. If you have tips, I'm all hears. Merry Christmass and Happy New Year!

I keep saying it but if you go for an AMD CPU, Ryzen 3D, you will be better off bounding it with Cl14 RAM, preferably a 4 X 1 bank kit, simply because it is designed for low latency with on top the amount of cache giving it an edge under load. The Ryzen controllers have a limit of 3200MHz with high street RAM and 3600MHz with B.die, that would be Cl4 RAM thanks to a wider range of timings offer by the B-die chips. You can find those kits in 3200 or 3600MHz form, but better go for the 4 X 1 kits, rather than buying 2 2 X 1 which can cause issues, B-die are more expensive but thinking of it, you could go for a 64GB or 128GB Cl 16 kit and still have a bootleneck under load (4K) which mean that your CPU will throtle down and your system will be slower. Here is the difference between my previous system and my current one: 5600X with 32GB Cl14 4 X 1 bank kit, both CPU (1080Ti) and GPU boosted (Ryzen Master and NVidia afterburner) vs Ryzen 7 5800X 3D 32GB Cl14 4 X 1 bank 3600MHz kit, same GPU no boost. BOTH tested back to back at 4K 2 X MSAA on 3DMark Pro. As you can see the difference is important even if the 5600X clocks marginaly faster, it just can't compete vs the 5800X 3D, it's mostly in the cache, the higher RAM frequency doesn't make much difference, they both used interleaving, their controllers were able to manage and spread the datas over 4 sticks improving the speed further. More importantly, all the buses stays fully open under load, no bootleneck there, so if you ask me it is worth the investment even if some guys will always disagree, a gain of 18.91% at 4K is not negligible. So at the end of the day it is up to you which amount of money you want to spend, you don't need 3600MHz, a 3200MHz B-die Cl14 kit would do you just as well, plus they can easily be O.Ced, they are designed for it, the 3600MHz are not, the CPU controller won't let you try higher frequencies. Now, I can't talk about Intel, I don't have the experience for those CPU but those guys does. Intel: How to Overclock RAM

Ram is important but RAM latency is the most important of all. You can have 64GB of RAM but still have a RAM/CPU bottleneck, especially with the Ryzen3/3D CPUs, which are designed for low latency. Here is the gain I experienced going to a CL14/3600 5800X 3D combo from a 5600X Cl14/3200, the cache on the 3D is working wonder, tests were conducted at 4K 2 X MSAA, with the 5600X 3D Mark Pro, both CPU and GPU were boosted with Ryzen Master and NVIDIA Afterburner, RAM kits both were/are 32GB. GPU was/is EVGA GEFORCE GTX 1080Ti for both tests, not boosted with the 5800X 3D. So if you own a Ryzen, think of it if you want to upgrade, just sticking faster RAM or more RAM won't do, their controllers are limited to 3200MHz unless you use Cl14, in which case you can manage 3600MHz, my kit is not OCed but stock 3600MHz. Idealy those CPU will best work with 3200/3600MHz Cl14 4 X 1 brank kits, those are the absolute limits of their controllers. -

I will but my card of choice is not yet available, my PICO is in order as well as the GEEKVR Facial Interface & Halo Strap for PICO 4, it increases FoV... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/geekvr/the-geekvr-facial-interface-and-halo-strap-for-pico-4?ref=ksr_email_backer_pledge_collection_successful Obviously the situation is a little bit frustrating but there is little I can do but wait....# I don't think it is an issue of card, it has plenty of power, but much more support for the headset, if it works smooth with Microsoft flight simulator, it should be OK for DCS. The reason why I chose the PICO is its native software, I won't need Steam VR or other apps and it is important, the GPU is not limited by a third party package that might or not offer support for it. -

I just ordered one, the 256GB model. It wasn't an easy choice since I originally wanted a Pimax Crystal but I'm done waiting month for items released a week ago. From what I understood, you will need the support of a 4090 or 7900 XTX to get the best of it, meaning smooth play with proper FPS with higher settings.

First I never quoted gains at 1440p at ANY time, so I hardly see how you can quantify it as "small", second, playing a game like DCS at this resolution is my definition of a waste of money, I just hope you didn't invest in too many modules. When once a sudden you'll realise that your system is bottlenecked because of your "economy", and want to play at higher resolutions or even try Microsoft Flight Simulation, find no other solutions but to splash more into a substitute such as more RAM, O.C, loose the manufatrurer warrany for a much smaller gain tell us again how this unknown quantity is "small". Because you see, I don't formulate opinions out of thin air and never tested at 1440p since I want to play full blown 4K 2 X MSAA VR, but even with my pre-upgrade system, the best addition to the 5600X I made was the Cl14 kit, no context. Some of us like their wine without water...

Training Mission at Syria for the Mirage F1
Thinder replied to Rudel_chw's topic in Missions and Campaigns
OK. I think I know what the problem was. I downloaded the standard relase of the game, now that I installed the Open Beta version I have access to the cockpit which I couldn't do before. Thanks for your reply! -

First scam alert of the year. So here I was, out for the first time for weeks (don't ask, weeks ago) and I'm stocked on a packed tube platform in the cold, been told everything is frozen, rails, signals and the rest of the climate change shoobang, I joke "must be global warming", people laugh, British X-Mass spirit is great... >>> Today, I just finished to order my upgrade part 2, and slightly downgraded the original list: Powercolor Radeon RX 7900 XT MBA 20GB , and.... Pico 4 256GB. So OUT goes the Pimax Crystal at least for the time being, reason? I was more than happy with my G2 passed the minuscule sweet spot and the fact that it packed up, so looking at the comparisons between it and the Pico 4, the presence of a strong graphic card, even the 20GB version should provide with enough vavavoum to run it smooth at 4 K 2 X MSAA which are my requierements. First the GPU, size mattered, I wished to retain my case and this one fits, then the VR headset; I was thinking OK It's X-Mass, you know, the Pimax is preordered, just a matter of time before it should be available after launch (13th Dec). But NO, get word from Pimax I'll have to wait yet another month minimum IF I'm lucky so it doesn't feel like $1,599.00 is a good deal anymore, I'd better wait until those new hyper-dupper VR headset price goes down... And I can send larger boxes of chocolate to family. >>> Second scam alert of the year. Great Email from Kaylee H (Overclockers UK) So just that you know, even so deliveries are dead slow, your parcels should stay traceable, supply chains are all fcuked up, icy roads and occasional snow storms will slow the whole thing further too. Phishing alert: >>> So now that I commited, perhaps you guys can tell us what you think of my choices, not the high-end I first envisaged but still a proper upgrade. Don't G-lock and have fun! (Can we have one of these, DCS please?

Can't get it to work, I uninstalled DCS and swap to Beta. If the problem reapears I'll post tickets to support.
