I always use ground speed X 5, but of course I always have GS in knots, so you'd have to switch to that from mph (damn imperial units!)

You're seeing the sim equivalent of the old first person shooter model 'ragdoll' flopping around - remember the first shooters that used 'ragdoll' physics? Sometimes the corpses would jerk around after they've been 'killed' and were just laying there. The physics model keeps bouncing a part from one side to the other. Same here.

Wow. Lots of blatant fanboi-ism in this thread. Time will tell, and anyway, if you're even remotely interested in the Mustang, you'll own both A2A's product, as well as DCS's version of it. It's not like you're buying actual Mustangs each time you buy the software, I'm sure we can all afford both. Based on A2A's past products, the Mustang will be excellent. As their video's clearly show, they have plenty of access to the real thing. All sounds are recorded from the real thing, down to the sounds of the switches clicking (for example, I could go on and on - just watch the clips on their site). The Spitfire and P40 are the only addon aircraft I have for FSX (aside from the PMDG NGX, since that's what I fly IRL and was curious how well they did it - very well, it turns out) The feeling of flight is excellent. Their numbers match the manual very closely. The aircraft feel 'alive' and you have a sense of attachment, and a reason to treat them well. I see a lot of 'It's in FSX, so it's useless' kind of comments here. I wouldn't trust any comment where it's obvious the person has zero experience of the product being mentioned. Why would somebody make the primary point of their argument pure ignorance? Weird....As for 'FSX has no guns' - would you like to have a flight in a P51? Yes? Ok, and if I told you it had no guns? Suddenly you wouldn't be interested at all? Duh. Simply flying a P51 is fun. Bottom line, I'll own both. It's a no brainer. Duh!

The closest thing I have to describe turbulence IRL is to imagine driving too fast on a bumpy road. Light turbulence means you bounce around a little, but the aircraft is still perfectly controllable. Severe is when it is no longer possible to control the aircraft, anyone not strapped down will go flying around, passengers will consider themselves about to die, etc. IRL, even medium will make most passengers (even seasoned flying pax) very nervous. Severe will make the pilots nervous too :) The most I've ever experienced IRL is medium, with possibly a few seconds of severe. It's pretty violent, and makes you appreciate the strength of the wing box. In the sim, you should see airspeed, attittude, and altitude fluctuations, increasing in severity with the level of turbulence. I've never really experimented that much with it much in DSCA10, only BS (to watch the rotors flap around on the ground, lol at flingwings :) )

I actually get the OP's point. I fly a 737 for a living (get the PMDG NGX for FSX if you want that, it's good). Flying the A10, and getting it started, is easy, and along the same lines. But, I'm finding I couldn't be arsed to read the manual on that shockingly painful nav system (what where they thinking?!), nor learning how to program the DSMS to be be able to control my CBU's RPM or HOF (etc etc etc X 10000). So, the OP asks a valid question, then gets a whole bunch of answers telling him he's 'playing it wrong' and to sit down and study? Lol. OP, you can get a 'limited' A10 license, like me. :) I can use a Mav, the TGP (mostly) drop a dumb, unguided bomb, use rockets and the cannon. That's easy enough. One day I'll study some more :) Maybe I could get a laser guided bomb off the rails if I had enough time to hang around and fiddle with some buttons. I actually did at some stage know a lot more than this, and did read the manual cover to cover. But I find this sim is so detailed, you actually lose 'currency' if you don't play it all the time (which I don't - too many other good things to play). I have to check myself out in each system every time I get back into it (except the basics), plus each time it gets patched a few subtle details often change, and sometimes it all seems like work frankly :) That said, I will always keep it in 'sim' mode all round - if I want to blow stuff up, I always want to do it as per the real deal. Like I said, I have a 'limited' A10 license :)

Another question regarding this: Logically then (based on the above), LAN play is then simply NOT possible while offline, even with two different serials? Or does the software check that the serials are different, and allow a connection in that case? Noob questions, just thought I'd ask before carting my pc off to some LAN in a shed somewhere. Funny, whenever the words 'master server' appear, things become more complicated, not simpler...

DDWFTTW I don't think it can be done in a helicopter :)

...welll then, beasts should sit firmly on the deck, not skate around like little teflon-toed princess' then :)

Wow, nice to know there's a UAV operator around here. The way of the future! What's a UAS? I've just googled the Scan Eagle, since I'd never heard of it - it seems one has crossed the Atlantic, unless I was reading wrong!

If it is a P51, they're going to have to compete with A2A simulations P51 for FSX, the release of which is imminent, and which is looking VERY promising. http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=26491

Is there anyway to keep hud symbology inside a rocket/gun piper?
ARM505 replied to tyrspawn's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
IRL, your eyes are better able to pick up finer details at distance. Therefore, it makes perfect sense to use your eyes to discern the target, rather than rely on the HUD target box, as we are tempted to do in the sim, where everything appears to be in the same plane (ie flat on our screens). What GG says makes perfect sense - IRL, too much crap on the HUD just gets in the way. -
I actually did manage to get it started before it slid off the CGN Piotr Veliky (spelling?) :)

This occurs with both parking brake on, or full manual brakes applied. They need to degrease the deck or something...
-
Well, I was asking as a bit of a joke really, although they do get tied down when they're not running of course. The problem though, is that in BS the helo will eventually fall off the aft end of the ship - it cannot stay still on the deck. Old issue, or something to fix from a new feature?
-
I'm not sure if this is an old issue, I had some idea it was a newly added feature, so sorry if I'm just kicking the proverbial dead horse. Spawning on a ship will ultimately result in the helo falling over the side. As expected, it kinds of rolls around a bit when starting (with the odd loud bang as you spawn, sometimes breaking the wheels), but always tends towards the aft of the ship, and ultimately always falls overboard. I can haz tiedowns pleez?

It looks retro, like a ZX Spectrum loading screen or something...I can almost hear the 'blee-blip! blee-blehgfsdgfhf'. Giving my age away I suppose, although I was only ten...

No they aren't, my rotor blades keep touching in BS2 as well.....oh wait. :)

IRL, hovering is probably the least stable thing a helicopter can do, so it's hardly surprising that it's a pain to operate weapons etc while doing this. Not that that is much help :) I just get it basically trimmed so it's as stable as it's going to get, then use the autopilot if I'll be there for a little while and/or plan to use other systems, and practice ( <--- the big one). It's not too bad, but still takes up all your attention, there isn't much left over to be clever with :) Edit to add: Not to reopen the old discussions on this, but I find myself normally only using the pitch and roll stability channels. The rest I'll do myself, unless I'm going to be really busy.

It seems that BS2 is utterly independant from BS1 from a functional point of view. HOWEVER, they have chosen to insist that BS1 is installed to verify that you do indeed own the product IF you just bought the 'upgrade' package. It is my understanding that the BS2 installation files are completely independant, ie they do not require certain files from BS1's installation. The requirement for BS1 to be installed is purely a 'validity check' to prove you own it. I'm speaking under correction, but that's the way it seems. Hence all the confusion, and my previous post. Kind of like the latest BMS version of Falcon 4 doing a check for the original Falcon, or the Historix car mod for RFactor checking for the GT Legends DVD during install, just to check you do actually own the originals.

Hide behind hills, yes. Behind trees, no. Sorry, not to be sad panda, but.... :) Keep it real (in sim world). Trees are invisible. :) :)

It is a bit of an....odd method they've chosen here. Since the new release does not work with the Steam release of BS1, and your account with ED already knows that you've bought BS1, surely they could have just allowed the discounted price by referencing your existing account, and not by insisting that BS1 (v1 of all things ) is actually installed already on your PC? If I buy BS2 now, everytime I buy a new PC or setup up everything again, I need to reinstall BS1 AND I need to keep the BS1 install files around for this purpose. Once I install BS2 it can be uninstalled, sure. But it all seems so unnecessary. This isn't a major bitch, it's not really a major deal - I just ask why, since it seems like it isn't actually necessary at all, if you look at it. So.....I dunno? It should be: Go to ED site, log in. Try to buy BS2 (ED site goes 'Hey, this guy bought BS1 - give him the discounted price!' ED gives you a serial number. Download. Install BS2. No need for BS1 anywhere on your PC. Am I missing something obvious?

I kind of always pictured the DCS series like Rise of Flight - You have your basic engine, then aircraft get plugged into this as they become available, and as/if you buy them. In the meantime, the basic engine (common components) get updated for all. I'm aware this isn't going to happen now - if it was, it would have been like that from the start. For me the price is irrelevant, and I also understand that people who make stuff need to be paid properly. It's just that this path seems like it won't realise the goal (my own opinion of course) of a dynamic world populated by a whole bunch of players, all using their vehicle of choice. Lockon (pay), then FC(pay). FC couldn't work with Lockon. BS(pay) - couldn't work with anything initially. FC2 comes out (pay), now FC2 and BS (after patch) can play together. A10 comes out (pay), can't work with anything. BS2 (pay) comes out, A10 needs to be patched, but will now work with BS2, which will now no longer work with FC2. Nevade planned to be released (pay for some) - no doubt more compatablity patching needed to make this work across the series too. I hope my point is becoming a little clearer. I mention the (pay) point, not out of financial concern, but since those indicate fragmentary points in the developement of a 'populated world', or even just the community. Again I realise that this is my little fantasy, but I think that a) it's a cool idea, and b) a lot of others here have the same sort of idea. And again, I'll mention ROF's model of a common engine, with aircraft available according to choice. At the moment, every little improvement has to be individually added to each product. We have some improvements in BS2 that aren't in A10 for example. I did read more than half of this thread, apologies if I'm just restating something. In my defence, it's a huge thread.

Well...we know sims are niche - we know jet sims have their own niche in the niche - we know hifi jet sims with this level of detail are a niche product in the niche in the niche genre......so, by my math, that leaves about -4 people in the world who will be able to do this effectively, online, while you are playing. But thanks for the guide, you may raise that number into positive territory! My word of the day is niche. In case that didn't come across somehow...

Garage door remote, pushback tug and CHOCKS on request please!

This may be simpler than everyone thinks - IF you're referring to the black eliptical area, isn't that like a 'fake' canopy, painted to confuse an opponent as to which side up the A10 is? :)
