One thing I've thought I've noticed is that it feels a little short on power compared to the previous version. Dunno, maybe it's just me, but I've found that power management is more critical - I'm over the green band of the EGT more readily, and have to watch pulling pitch too suddenly compared to before. Again, with these subtle changes, it's hard to tell if it's real or imagined.

camera ordnance tracking not working for me...

Try F6? -
My gut feel is that DCS punishes you very harshly and very quickly for any engine exceedance. In a way it's a good thing since it's a workaround for the 'brand new shiny plane every time' syndrome of sims (ie a brand new factory fresh P51 could likely last longer, but would be abused horribly in a fight because we get a new one everytime, unrealistically so), but on the downside it may not represent how well a real Merlin would have held up. IMHO.

Longer sticks help massively. I personally think it's high time that the higher end stick manufacturers start including connections and options for stick lengthening as standard. TM Warthogs etc should all include screw off/on attachment points (not hard since they already do actually) with TM available lengthening pieces of different lengths available as factory options (not necessarily in the box, but available to buy as extra). None of this bodged stuff with garden hose pieces (which work awesomely, but why am I having to do that for a high end stick that ALREADY has attachment points?!) The P51 is another one that benefits a lot from this kind of mod. Seriously, TM et al - when is this happening?

[REPORTED] Fw 190 Cockpit Bar! (answer Post #173)

Finally! Nicely summarised. I can't rep you for this post for some reason, so give yourself a +1 internets in the meantime. -
Is it possible to kill a ship with a machine gun?

The 'hit point' system at work. -
You can safely skip Joburg :) No loss.

And in the background of that picture is Shimmy Beach Club, if you want to catch some sun and food. I happened to be sitting there as the Huey started up, buzzed off, came back and shut down - just after I'd bought the DCS version. I was having visions of swimming across and trying to nick theirs! Nice find Vlerks. At about 10:47 my house would be in the extreme left edge of the shot! Such a familiar site, my home airfield of Cape Town, yay! P.S. I should mention the tremendous controversy this operator has attracted in some circles - it seems to be an enormous paperwork C.F., I didn't really follow the story.

In-cockpit landing, breaking through vortex ring

In Soviet Russia, you adjust to seat position. -
Not dumb, but a simple answer: Throw some fuel on your leg - cool, isn't it? :) It takes energy to heat the fuel, hence it carries some energy away from the engine. In aircraft engines, one of the benefits of a 'rich' mixture (too much fuel vs air) is it's ability to aid in cooling the engine. Priming constantly is an extreme example of this.

Wow. Talk about a famous name from the past. I'm having flashbacks to comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.flightsim I think it was?

IAS is more relevant to actually flying the aircraft (consider IAS to be the airflow that the aircraft actually 'feels'), TAS is more relevant for navigation.

Waiting for first discount on DCS: Mi-8MTV2
ARM505 replied to captainteemo's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
This topic is just going back and forth along the two lines, but the core facts are still pretty clear: - Yes, the modules are great. That's not in dispute. - No, most people who paid full price are not inherently upset with the initial price. - The majority are IMHO not 'jealous' or 'upset' with the opportunity given for even more people to buy into these products. - Yes, there is irritation at rather needlessly spending an extra 60USD in some cases, justifiably so. Not everybody wants to just randomly spend money. But the one core fact that really shouldn't be in dispute is that the lesson to never buy on the initial offering is pretty clear surely? I mean you don't have to resent ED or BST, you don't have to feel jealous, but it's pure logical sense to NOT buy when the product comes out from now onwards. I have lots of money, I'm not too phased by their decision other than what it means for their own business. Either way I would get the same product - one way I'd have an extra 60USD (and correspondingly, they wouldn't), the other not - surely they would have thought that this harms their future business? Why did they shoot themselves in the foot like this? -

I doubt this is a BST stunt to be honest (ie it probably wasn't entirely up to them, who knows) - but I do now know to give ANY DCS product a couple of weeks/months to 'mellow' before buying now. a) more patches to get the day one release up to spec b) more likely to get a special Sorry guys, I'm not whining at all (price them how you like, and more customers means more players!) but I have learned a lesson from this, you'd have to be an idiot not to. -

Does the 'slider' check option affect input speed somehow? What does it actually do? I check it if the control is a 'slider' (ie not spring loaded to centre?) but there seems to be no practical difference that I know of.

A suggestion regarding control setup for DCS..
ARM505 replied to ATAG_Bliss's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Good to know a new system is in the pipeline, it's a critical part for a sim. My request for the new system: Please don't automatically assign any axis to anything. Rather let me do it. That way I won't have to go into the setup and unassign ailerons (for example) from my rudder pedal toe brakes, throttle quadrant, etc etc. -
Try using the 'repair DCS World' option?
-
Wow! Get that into ARMA 3, stat!

Help please... Controller issues
ARM505 replied to outlawal2's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
It's not only DCS frankly - it's a pet hate of mine that everything out there seems to think that assigning all of my 14 axes to every control under the sun is doing me a favour somehow. The worst is the console ports where you can do nothing about it, and have to perch with your feet on the brake pedals, holding them perfectly in the middle of their range while attempting to navigate the menu! -
It's a small point, but +1 from me, this guy did a great job with the music - well done.

Engine Fire, no tempature increaste in guage
ARM505 replied to Mar044's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
What Griffin said. An engine fire warning will be triggered by whatever engine fire detection system the A10 has - I'm guessing the usual kind of fire loop running around the casing that will sense an over temperature condition in the cowling around the engine. It's possible to have a fire which manages to not set this off I guess (ie a tailpipe fire), and of course a raging fire around the engine will do absolutely nothing to the exhaust gas temps, so you wouldn't see it on the gauges - totally realistic as far as I know. What wouldn't really be realistic (IMHO) is suddenly exploding when your engine is on fire. FC modules such as the Su25 have a propensity to burn for a while, then suddenly explode. It's highly unlikely that this could happen to an A10 - at worst the entire engine would just fall off (probably designed so that an uncontrolled engine fire would do just that) My experience is on B737's, also a 'podded' engine that will just fall off if the worst comes to the worst. In simulated engine fires, the only warning we get is the fire alarm. No change in indications, and no loss of thrust even. I don't play the A10C module that much, so I'm not too familiar with what they've programmed. -
Stand up and be counted all ye Mi-8 operators

Well, I have the Mi8, but I don't know about the 'operator' part of the question... :)
