End of Mission, guys, stop firing the guns!
uhoh7 replied to 2GvSAP_Dart's topic in User Created Missions General
priceless! can't wait. In my new one, you fly for the turks, and the paratroops run on to your target bridge once you take out the BMP2s which guard it, and you better get that bridge quick down cause a big ol column with a strela is roaring down the valley. Of course there's a big fat MI8T hovering right there as well. Thats just the left flank, if you live through that, you race up the next valley to deal with the right flank. I will have to get the live voice going soon too. Love the fuel trucks in the trees---I gotta try that! best, -

ty slug, good point and apreciate the input. I will fix that and put up an abkhazia5. don't feel bad if you get killed a bunch of times before you finnally fly and survive. In all those missions there are things coming AFTER you, hehe, in the air and on the ground. But in reality the threats are not huge, usually one strela SAM per column, moving with it. With the Hinds, send your wingman after them when he sees them (try to be sure it's a hind not an SU 25), get him out ahead and then see if he attracts SAMS---take them out before they get him if possible. If you are not within 2.5 k of tanks and your laser goes off you better run and do some gentle zig zaging, the hinds are gonna fire, but they often miss. When you want to get them, hit lock multiple times till you have them, be sure you are in AA and manual, then fire two missles, one right after the other. This is far more effective than single missles which only hit 30% of the time, with 2 you get about 80% kills. The forward farp will last about 15-20 minutes before it gets taken out and you have to rearm further back where you took off. all the best. NEW SP MISSION: SEQUEL TO SWITCH BACK Orkhvi As we feared, Russian forces have poured out of South Ossetia via Oni. Yesterday they occupied the villages around Terjoli Lake. Based on the road system we believe this large force constitutes their Left flank. This force has crossed the pass west of the lake, and based on the shelling of villages on the outskirts of Kutasi, we believe the city itself is their goal today. To make matters worse the Russian Right flank, is preparing to come down the valley west of Shaori Lake in heavy force. We are in the process of evacuating this valley, and have setup a rearguard in Orkhvi Village to try to hold the valley. The only blessing is the heavy overcast which precludes fixed wing air support. You will takeoff from Kutasi and 1) take out the bridge at Nabslevi, then 2) support the rear guard at Orkhvi. Dingo will provide FAC below bridge, and the Leopard tank column Foxguard will brief you on the situation at Orkhvi. Today, Blackshark, it all depends on you. Your wingman is down for repairs. Hehe, untill the patch I don't think you can. There will be a new trigger "deactivate unit" which not only stops them, but they disappear. -
This is a stange aspect of infantry options. I may be be wrong, but I'm pretty sure all non-russian infanty, except manpads, will not walk or run, though they will move. Russian paratroopers on the other hand run very well.

1 month with SSD(Solid State Drive) - Great.
uhoh7 replied to 815TooCooL's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
well i bit the bullet, and sprung for intel X25E, not cheap, hehe. put my swap file and DCS on the 32gb drive, installed the intel drivers. As you can see by the specs below it's a new system built just for DCS, with a real fast HD anyway. It makes a difference. Load times are only just a bit faster, but gameplay has improved, and I have turned up my already high settings, e.g. vis now on high, and mimaps up a few notches in the graphics options. My test has been some of the GOW chapter missions which formerly had hiccups and it sometimes got to the point where flight control was affected. I even had gone to point of reducing a few objects in some of those missions--- I think wags went a bit over kill in some of them. In testing with the SSD, the hiccups are gone, fps will drop to high 20s but no effect on flight control--all this with higher graphics settings and as before, max rez. at 419.00 it was a big hit I thought over for 10 days, but the slow downs do hit immersion pretty bad, so I thought OK DO IT. I do not regret it. TY toocool for the thread which brought SSDs to my attention. Sequential Read : 271MB/s Sequential Write : 214MB/s with the crystaldisk thingy my velolciraptor was running in the high 60's on HD tune: intel: transfer avg: 226 access:0.0 (not a typo) burst:157 WD velociraptor 300 transfer avg: 101 access: 7.3 burst: 194 (higher!) so the thing does fly, and access is 7 times faster. -

So, to get the best out of DCS BS, what do we think the best swapfile settings would be? Obviously some variables here My rig is vista46 with 4gb RAM. I just moved BS and my swapfile to a 32GB intel X-25E SSD drive, and set the swap at 6400 MB which vista "recommended". I made this size both min and max. But I know their are numerous schools of thought on this question. And I'm wondering how much BS uses the swap on a fast system? TY in advance,

My FPS seemed fine throughout---vista64---- love to wacth those paratroopers storm in, and nice job with the helis coming in also.

Three campaign building questions:
uhoh7 replied to 2GvSAP_Dart's topic in User Created Missions General
Dart you probably saw this, but I opened one of the GOW chapters and noted that at the end was this: \ WARNING: This campaign is designed for high end Windows XP systems and is not compatible with Windows Vista.\ \ Introduction:\ \ With the ever growing demand for oil in world markets, Georgia has taken advantage of its oil-wealth to both improve its infrastructure and its military power. This became even more important after the Russian invasion of Georgia in 2008. Key to this has been the diversion of oil and natural gas from the South Caucasus and Central Asia regions directly to the West. In doing so though, Russia has been left out of the economic windfall. Further, both Azerbaijan and Georgia have worked closely together to minimize Russian involvement in oil coming from Baku. \ \ To further inflame matters, there exist the oil and gas fields not yet exploited in Kazakhstan. How this oil will be transported out of Kazakhstan is a matter of contention. Russia insists that it be routed north through its territory whereas the West would like to see it head West through Georgia. \ \ Within this energy/economic environment, both the West and Russia have vital strategic interests in Georgia. Recognizing this and the insatiable demand for fossil fuels, several western countries and Georgia have created an energy and defense alliance to ensure the uninterrupted flow of oil from the region and to the west and prevent a repeat of the Russian invasion in 2008. This cooperation has included the granting of western high-technology weaponry and the training of Georgian forces.\ \ Recognizing the growing strategic military and economic threat to its south, Russia has taken pre-emptive military action to restore a legitimate government to Georgia and remove western influences from the region.", fullPath = "C:/Program Files/Black Shark/Missions/Campaigns/Georgian Oil War - Chapter 1.cmp", name = "Georgian Oil War - Chapter 1", } -- end of campaign I think they recommend using the following instead of notepad: http://sourceforge.net/projects/notepad-plus/ -
AH-1W Cobra loadouts....can't carry much fuel?
uhoh7 replied to uhoh7's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
good info TY sir -
I notice the Cobras can't carry much more than 30% Fuel with full loadout of AGTM and rockets. Is this accurate? Update I did manage to get them up to 45% with AGTM and 38 Hydaras, but funny the next loadout up has less rockets but is heavier----go figure.

SWITCHBACK SP mission. Brief: For the past seven days, Russian forces have been pouring into South Ossetia, according to local sources, though Russians deny this and bad weather prevents satellite surveillance. The Georgian defense pact with Turkey has been triggered, and allied Turkish and Georgian forces are fortifying the border with South Ossetia. The main thrust is expected thorugh Gori as in August 2008, however this morning we lost all contact with observers in Oni, on the western border of South Ossetia. Gori is now heavily defended, so there is a chance the Russians will move through Oni, using the mining roads. Since Oni has not been heard from, this possibility is increasingly likely, and we are moving to forces to the town above Lake Terjoli, Tkibuli, and sending artillery to the village on the lake itself in case the Russians decide to come over the pass from Shaori Lake. Our units: Wolfpack, our main battle group, equipped with leopard tanks is now in route to Lake Terjoli and will continue at least to Tkibuli. Puppydog, our artillery units, are now nearing Lake Terjoli, ahead of Wolfpack. Hounddog, a light attack force is now crossing the pass west of the lake and will proceed up the valley to Tkibuli. Bulldog, consisting of two CH47s and special forces units is in route to reinforce the light defense forces already present in Tkibuli, and will be standing by in the unlikely event we need to evacuate Tkibuli. Cobra is your support now fueling on the new FARPs at the south end of Lake Terjoli consisting of two AH1Ws. They will be standing by in case things take a turn for the worse. Your mission: fly to waypoint 2, then proceed up the valley to Tkibuli and provide security for Hounddog and Wolfpack. WARNING: create an allied pilot, preferably Turkish, in your logbook, and use him, or you will accused of fratracide. This is a good one..... v3 Cobras take off and have a bit more fuel, comms shortened to 10sec, enemy heli AI changed to "average"--they are still plenty dangerous. If you want to tip the scales more in your favor, open up the mission and give your cobras ATGMs, but make sure they're not overloaded--you'll need to reduce fuel possibly. Switchback3.miz -
TY for all the replies!! I will only have BS on the SSD drive, and possibly the page file. A number of reasons to leave the OS where it is for now. I already have a fast HD, it will be very interesting to see if the intel SSD will smooth things out, esp over cities and in heavy weather. Can't believe I'm spending that kind of money......but's it's done.

how about allowing amphibious vehicles to travel on water, including the rivers and lakes?

Abkhaz War and other SP missions by uhoh7
uhoh7 replied to uhoh7's topic in User Created Missions General
Hi Crazy, I built them on the english (though I own both), but I would be very surprised if they did not play fine on the russian version. My other two SP missions, not part of the Abkhaz war: FOOTHOLD Georgian fortification of Mestia, above the Inguri Dam, has been proceeding for several days, and now includes operational FARPS. Our leadership regards this act as a provocation to which we must respond. Phase one: clear Mestia so MI-26s can land forces to establish a bridge head. One KA-27 will be watching for any forces on the pass. Mestia is defended by 5 AA batteries, possibly a Mobile SAM, and a T-55 is reported near the upper bridge. We expect the initial counterattack to be fairly light Our landing forces will embark on BMPs carried by the MI26s to secure a hamlet below Mestia and establish a line of defense. Additional forces will be landing as conditions permit. If we gain control of Mestia you can refuel and rearm, then proceed to the hamlet down valley to protect the BMPs Expect enemy gunships to be active, and a heavy counter attack is expected later. If the initial BMP force is blocked in route to the hamlet, you must destroy the vehicles to clear the way for reinforcements. CONTAIN UKRAINE Ukrainian forces are advancing on the hilltop village of Verkhnebakskij, a crucial crossroads. Scramble to support our columns as they try to secure the village and control the northern approaches. The Ukrainians have numerous advanced ground vehicles purchased in the wake of the western economic collapse. They are supported by MI-24v gunships which have been sighted enroute. You have three farps for rearm and repair. Expect wind and turbulence. Good Luck PS MI28s are standing by in case your wingmen are taken out. 3/10/09 Foothold update with short static to alert you to comms Contain Ukraine3.miz foothold7.miz -
I really enjoy comments, and am combining my missions into a single thread to keep things simple. Abkhaz War series: 1) ABKHAZIA We have been deployed to Abkhazia at the request of the separatist government. The command post in Sida has reported movements of Georgian forces on the other side of the river. These are likely just maneuvers, but nevertheless you will patrol fully armed from our FARP to Sida, which is 6km north of the river bordering Abkhazia and Georgia. This show of force should quiet them down. 2) OCHAMCHIRA The Georgian strike on Gali has devastated our forward line. We have regrouped at Ochamchira. Refugees are on the road from Gali and our reserve forces will take up positions to hold Ochamchira. We hope the Georgians will delay their attack till morning. Your mission is to provide cover for our deployment and the Refugees on the road. The situation is fluid and we must be ready for anything. Scouting forces are expected to be active with SAM capacity. Use extreme caution and stay low. 3) KOCHARA As you know, Gali and Ochamchira fell yesterday in heavy fighting. Under cover of darkness, Georgian forces have advanced to the outskirts of our airfield near Dranda, west of Ochamchira. However the Georgian supply lines are stretched and they have not had time to secure their flanks. Extreme weather moved in this morning, and we do not believe Georgians are risking their helicopters in these conditions. Our FARP and special forces units in Kochara have been overlooked. It is crucial we act before the Georgians can consolidate. You will launch from Kochara and with our special forces, cut the Georgian supply lines at the crossroads to the west. The crossroads is defended by 1 T72 and assorted vehicles. You must clear this force so our BMPs can occupy the crossroads. The Georgians will respond to this attack. There is a FARP just west of the crossroads, and we will have this ready for rearming when safe from counterattacks. Expect further instructions... Another note: the bridge, 3km east of crossroads is important to prevent counter attack on crossroads from Ochamchira. You are tasked to do this in comms, but if you are having trouble living, you can take this out first, then deal with forces at crossroads. It's wild to watch the wind working in this mission, it will flap your blades if they are stopped, and tonite I watched it take the smoke from a dying MI8--looked like 60 knots. Sometimes the lazer works and sometimes not in these conditions. 4) SUKHUMI As you know, Georgian forces had reached the outskirts of our airfield at Dranda after taking Gali and Ochamchira. Yesterday in extreme weather, we cut their supply lines west of Ochamchira at the Kochara crossroads. However by evening they secured the airfield at Dranda and are resupplying by air and sea. This morning they are attacking Sukhumi with warships, speedboats, and helicopter support---in part we believe to cover ongoing resupply at Dranda airfield. We have a little surprise for them. You will launch from FARP1 armed with KH25 anti-ship missles and attack the Georgian Navy. Your mission is to first eliminate all threats to Sukhumi from the sea, and then be ready to support our two T55 tank columns, North, and South which will move in to secure the port when the coast is clear. Be sure you are familiar with KH25 deployment. 1. Lock target 2. switch laser to designate mode (The switch under the HSI) 3. select the KH-25ML 4. hit the lock target again (the laser is now firing for 60 second 30 second cool down time) you will see in the hud that the Kh-25 locks onto the laser. 5. Fire weapon (TY to Cat101 for KH25 instructions) 5) DRANDA While we took on the Georgian Navy this morning at Sukhumi, resupply at Dranda airbase continued. Dranda is now heavily fortified with strong SAM defense. Georgians retain over 20 T-72s, while as you know, we lost all T-80s at Gali and must rely on our T-55 battalions. We plan to hit Dranda moving, 1) southwest from your FARP at Ganakhieba, and 2) south with one column from Merkheuli and another directly from Sukhumi, both using the coast road for their final assault. However we suspect Georgians are aware of our forces at Ganakhieba and may try to prempt our strike with air and ground forces. Sweep the approaches to Ganakhieba and do what you can to reduce SAM threats at Dranda. Then move to support our Columns coming down from the north. FARP2 at Octomberi is available if FARP1 becomes unusable. It's time to kick the Georgians out of Abkhazia!!! Success in Dranda: NOTE: all missions will be numbered for version, i am updating as I find things to fix or hear of them, just check your versions from time to time. 3/10/09 all missions updated with a short static sound so you don't miss comms 3/18 abkhazia v5 has faster speed for mig25 ochamchira5.miz Kochara8.miz sukhumi2.miz Dranda4.miz Abkhazia5.miz

I'm working on an attack from sea at Sukumi. I want to get armored speedboats racing back and forth, but they seem to start off then come to a stop---no record of a hit, then they just sit there and do nothing. Any tricks to getting them to behave?
-
I hope the great looking new models for the crucial MI26 and MI8 will be ready in time for the patch--it would be worth an extra week to have them in. Thanks for all your work guys.
-
What a great model---hope there is also detail at the rotor--looks like it. The current MI26........ When will we see this in the game?
-
Yes, "group hold" and "group move". This in combination with some comm triggers which the player could access from the comm menu, would take immersion up a notch. The comm triigger with current actions and rules would in itself be a great step. Just an addtional menu in comms, with say Alpha, Bravo, etc, say at least four named triggers which would do the same thing as "unit in zone" or whatever. This seems not a hugely complex addition--we understand ED has limited resources. But that said, great to see the work is going forward!!
