How is winter in the Korengal? Incredible place.
-
Well that at least explains why AP rounds do not work well at 3k, hehe.
-
yes, only the abrams and the leo take two. Don't know about the french tank i think is in there. Interesting regarding the two types. Again, RK the diference betweetn RL and BSL is not pointless to my mind. I think ED prides itself on fidelity, as we we see in the FM. I think we may see some improvements, and discussions like these won't hurt in prioritising what might be improved.
-
As noted by EB, there is some modeling of varied armor thicknesses in some vehicles, but DMs are still primitive. There's RL and there's BSL. We all hope they get closer and closer, but it's worthwhile to know what works in BSL.

I don't get a "C" past about 4.1 k --what do you switch to manual? I do agree the gun works well, I go to low all the time now and often use single shots. Now, the small rockets I hardlly even use. Tonite I watched my wingie put three volleys right on a fixed artillery, and it was fine-- a few canon shots took it right out soon after.
-
I'm now finding the 30mm works very well against everything but MBTs. Most of the armor in the vid is pretty dated---and that number of rounds from the KA-50 will certainly kill a t-55. Problem is you need to be pretty close, within 2k to get really good results.

Black Shark interview at Rock, Paper, Shotgun!
uhoh7 replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Alot of us have spent many hours with the F4 DC, and at first the campaign in BS seems awful linear--you see saw back and forth through similar missions--well similar battlefields---unless you are very good. But the ME has come forward quite a bit obviously, and once you realize the parameters the current setup is pretty fun. It's all dependant on the mission designer---the potential is there for some spectacular campaigns. While at first put off by the GOC, I now enjoy the missions (I live longer ,hehe.) The new FAC messaging does add immersion, even if it's only one way. Wags has alot of work in the GOC, I'm a bit surprised he did not use that feature (at least I have not heard any FAC stuff). For a great DC you'd need to build the sim from the ground up. Oh well, what they've given us is pretty nice. Mbot you have made some very good missions. In a perfect world we'd have both a good flexilble DC and good ME and crafted campaign tools. I think the hardware is ready now, but it's $$$$$$$$, hehe. -
One little touch I remember in Lomac was the turrent flying off in some cases---that I haven't seen yet. TY for your clarification sir.
-
I stand corrected, sir. I did not try quite that many rounds straight form the rear.
-
You mean Vikhrs? They go fast. That's why I've been trying to see exactly what the gun can do. Or do you mean Rockets? Also a problem because you have to get close and it's alot easier to miss. Of course, engaging a t-55 w/gun has got to be tricky, since they don't laze and shoot well. I hope someday ED upgrades DM on heavy armor.
-
This is kind of a biggie, since the whole sim is about moving mud. It would be nice to see some diverse effects, even more important is the effect of AP rounds on armor, as well as Vikhrs. Tanks should be weak on top and in back as is in RL. Some hits should disable firing ability, if nothing else. This might be lots of work, but just the MBTs would be fine to start.
-
I just did some testing. 30mm AP wil kill T-55 reliably if you are close and get numerous hits. T-72 and up I could not get any kills (only tested t-72 and t-80)
-
I do notice the 30mm AP works very well against tracked artillery. Range makes a great diff against many vehicles, anything but main battle tanks will fall to AP in close strafing.
-
TY sir, I noted one more in your forum, hope you don't mind the link posted. http://www.4shared.com/file/80892641/deb33877/Around_the_Bend.html Fresh missions keep BS interesting!!!!

New (Replacement) Instant Action Mission
uhoh7 replied to Ian Boys's topic in User Created Missions General
TY ian My first order of biz in the old IA mission was always to shoot down the hinds, hehe, before they could kill everything. UPDATE Well I've only played once and it sounds like you have some random action in there. The cobra went down easy with guns as he went after my wingie, as noted below. I've only recently figured out the fixed arty can be easily taken out with AP 30mm, so that was good strafing practice. And there was great TOW evasion practice as well. The sim crys out for a great instant action mission which might include the following: FAC audio and friendlies that appear in the abris like the campaign. Direct fire engagments--nothing huge but maybe a series with various vehicle sets. a FARP close in for rearming. enemy air acitivity, both rotor and fixed wing, and maybe some triggered friendly air activity---always great to see an airstrike. ED should sponser a Instant action mission competition, with votes for the best one. TY for your mission creation IAN, please keep it up. Someday I hope to return the favor. -
A great post because I think it really reflects perception in the industry. My belief is the potenial market is larger than ever. Nobody ever wants to talk about sales figures, but what do we think the last MS FS release sold? ED is on the right track for sure in crucial FM dept. Nothing has ever equaled the SU-25t FM in the fixed wing dept. To really take off in sales a sim will need FM fidelity, graphics, AI, MP and a balanced planeset--not huge, but enough for good RL combat scenarios. KA50/Ah64 F16/SU29k A10/Su25T would be fine. Win 7 beta is already out, and with quad cores, 64x, it should be able to run the whole thing pretty well, if the engine is really designed for it. It sounds like the next module of DCS may get a reworked engine, and it will be great to see how it comes out. The last ingredient of course, is content. The new editor is a big step forward, but for long life the sim will need many many missions and hopefully campaigns. There's revenue potenial there, because alot of us would pay ten bucks for a good campaign, and that adds up. To really tap the market a DC would be needed, but for ED that would mean everything built from the ground up, with some kind of bubble like F4. Dev costs could be mitigated by working with some russian universites--getting some grad students programming etc--but while I think it would pay off big time in the long run, it's obviously unlikely. In the end, the military market has it's limitations, but for short term business realites, co development is certainly practical. We can dream of what's already possible, but I guess we should be very thankful for what we have.

You've got a point here, and not just for complete sim newbies. The manual is comphrensive, but more powerful than ambien. The in game training takes a number of steps back from Lomac, which surprised me. The producers notes are very nicely done, but you forget stuff before you fire up the sim. I got going with Para_bellum's simple little training mission and the thread at simhq that went with it. A simple printable tutorial using a training mission works pretty well to start. All that said, the serious sim market is there and always has been there and always will be there. Look at IL2. (no it's not a study sim, but still takes some real time to get a handle on it.) It's partly the devs/producers (great as they are) who have convinced themselves it's a "niche" market. The thruth is that F4 updated could have made good money over and over and over. It still could even today.

it's ten bucks less, next year it'll be down to 29.99. Then you can really feel fooled.
-
I'm interested! I have UAC off (if it makes any diff) and am using standard path. Would love to hear where you are at now.
-
I'm just a lowly first louey, hehe, but I'm wondering how high guys have got? Also, what triggers the medals? Sometimes (rarely) I get 100%, land and not so much as a spiceba. Then another time I bailout and wham! A new Order of the Flying Cossacks.

Well, I'd never heard of Ace Combat, but since you mentioned it, I had to check out the youtubes. That thing is hilarious. You gotta love the flying aircraft carriers----now there's a carbon footprint, hehe. But like you say the graphics are stunning, outside anyway. ED better send you a beer for that review!

Taking off you have to be super gentle w/ collective and wait, she will usually pop up eventually---pull to fast and the whole thing comes apart.

Detecting enemies; Labels-on to easy, Labels-Off to hard
uhoh7 replied to eV1Te's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
ahhh, obviously the cia has given the ingrate georgians a cloaking device.....I put my nose to screen, I can't see him. Like thinkr asked, circle him!!! You guys could be right, but in RL I'd think a pilot would get alot more tips from ground and air as to where to look, as noted above. Again, some method of graduated visibilty for objects, even a faint pulse which could be adjusted for taste, it would make everybody happy. RL junkies could turn it way down, and icon hating blind guys could turn it up. RVE no BS yet???????????? waz up wit dat? -

Well, I, for one, have NEVER asked a stupid qustion.......more than twice in a day, anyway. I use that shkval thingie to wipe my nose on those hot spring days.
