I modded my Thrustmaster Cougar to be standalone for 10$ and got myself a Thrustmaster Hotas Magnetic Base for 130€. If the budget is bigger go for a Virpil WarBRD... If the Gymbal is dying and you´re on a real budget, there are resonable ones that one can 3D Print if you have a printer (or a friend). The Gymbal of the T16000 is really nice, but the stick doesnt have enough buttons. The thrustlever is too light and needs either weight or have to be fixed somehow. Used ones can be really cheap and they dont have a lot of wear...unlike the Warthog base.

AMD RX 6800XT vs. Nvidia RTX 3080
JayRoc replied to JayRoc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes, but not by a lot. But the playability does improve a lot. Have a look here: -
I would bet the CPU is limiting. Get fpsVR and get a better idea of what's going on. Your CPU and the slow ram are pretty limited for DCS in VR.
-
Maybe use VR settings...where is the point to use high settings and ruin that afterwards with poor resolution? Maybe your CPU is limiting?
-
There´s a mod for an ipad app that work.
-
To be honest we didnt keep track of that. But i guess we have different settings in DCS. Some are more CPU stressing and some more GPU stressing. With the 2700 you will have a bottleneck as you can see in the charts above. With all the different GPU´s the 2700x doesnt get faster. Its the CPU. In your case i would try to give the 6800XT back and get a faster CPU if you need more frames. If you have a 450 chipset it could be that your mainboard can handle a Ryzen 5000.

My VR performance has degraded any suggestions need help with this
JayRoc replied to Gun Jam's topic in Virtual Reality
Try deleting the shader cache, had some funny behaiviour before doing so. -
You have to be more specific. We ran a lot of tests with different VR Headsets which have different resolutions and therefore very different results regarding frames. Yes the 5900X is faster. But the 5600X is my PC and the HP G2 is mine aswell so i can easily test it. For the 5900X i have to meet my brother. We ran a lot of tests in a lot of configurations, but always the same Benchmark File.

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 (27.21.14.6079) CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor Delivered fps: 68.59 Duration: 3.2min. GPU Frametimes: Median: 11.5 ms 99th percentile: 18.6 ms 99.9th percentile: 20.5 ms <--- small faction of the worst frametimes to identify studders GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 (27.21.14.5751) CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor Delivered fps: 66.56 Duration: 3.2min. GPU Frametimes: Median: 11.9 ms 99th percentile: 19.1 ms 99.9th percentile: 25.2 ms The new driver has improvements over here aswell. The studdering is dramatically reduced (which you can be seen on the 99.9th percentile). But still not as smooth as the AMD ones. And there are still 15fps between the 3080 and 6800xt with a 5600x. And the nvidia driver use more CPU power for some reason, which is bad for multiplayer.

I meantined it myself in the post as you can read. And this are just example Pictures of the behaiviour which i had. In our Benchmark it was the same on every supersampling resolution. But there are a lot of people seeing this behaiviour in SteamVR with a lot of games. But i will see if the new driver will change anything.
-
6800XT 3080 It not the excact same scenario but you can see the dropped frames and how much smoother it is with AMD. The pictures translate directly to how it feels in DCS playing VR.
-
Yes absolutely...AMD has way better drivers for their 6800s.
-
Would be nice if someone would bench that und submit me the results. In the Benchmark 6.9Gb or so was used. In Multiplayer it can a issue when switching airframes a lot the game will load news stuuf and not unload the old stuff and that results in really bad performance. If thats not a Problem or you dont switch airframes on servers you wont have a problem. There is a whole Thread on that toppic.

4) Toggling Win+Y (as WMR suggests) Works only if you tap out of DCS and have WMR as active window. I was highly annoyed by that and WMR also tends to switch this setting back when you play DCS. I got rid of that problem by setting it to manually. The WMR portal starts when i start SteamVR or when i plug in the HMD.

What you will need: Atmega32u4 Micro Pro Board Soldering skills(easy) and tools Jumper Wires - male to female Micro USB cable in the desired length Lastest Version of MMjoy2 which you can find here. There are also the instruction on how to flash the firmware onto the micro pro. When you successfully flashed the firmware you can upload the configuration file which attached below. 1. (green) load the set from my provided config file (Cougar Thrustlever.mmjoy) If you desire you can change the name of the device from mmjoy to whatever suits you (red circle) 2. (purple) save the config to the micro pro The 3rd step will be done after finishing everything else. Now you will have to solder the jumper wires accordingly to the pin names below. The female sides fits on the original board and the male side can be soldered on the micro pro. If you desire you can solder pins to the micro and use female to female jumper wires. The first one is a little more compact and saved some space. Once youre it should like this. The two unused pins have wires on here, but they are not needed. I then put the micro usb cable in and taped it to the micro pro. Before you go on - Test the functionality! If you plug in the USB cable the device should come up in Windows Joysticks Test if all Buttons and Axis are working. The whole controller should be isolated. To hold the controller in place i used a velco which i slid under the green board. An axtra layer of tape to protect the cable and holding it in place with two cable ties are an good addition. When you have put the Thrustlever back together you will have to calibrate all axis. You can find the calibration tool in the picture above. Its step 3. Watch for the min and max values on the Z-axis. Put in the center values for each axis according to your device specific numbers. For the Z-axis the center has to be between the Afterburner detents! The Radar Cursor is set to automatic center. If it wanders around just wiggle it in all directions and it stay centered. Save the calibration and upload the config on the micro pro again as you already did (see above). Now you just have to edit the settings in DCS and no problems with the not 100% working Windows 10 drivers. Have a good one Cougar Thrustlever.mmjoy

You can end this behaviour in the Windows settings for mixed reality. If you set in on manual you won't have to do or press anything.

Have a lock at our HP Reverb G2 benchmark -> We have explained and linked the mission in the new benchmarks now. See the link above. Every contribution will help the community! See above. I am happy with my Odyssey on my 1080ti. No need for an upgrade. Unless you dont know where to throw your money at -
AMD RX 6800XT vs. Nvidia RTX 3080
JayRoc replied to JayRoc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A friend has the same RAM as dual ranked 32GB with an 5600x and mine has the better latencies and through put. There are also some tests out there which come to the same conclusion. Its not way better, and i doubt anyone would recognise while gaming. So grab whatever is cheaper. -
If you're using a "lower res VR HMD" absolutely yes! The frametimes will also be more consistent which is really nice to have in VR. If you´re planning on upgrading to a "high res HMD" like G2 or Pimax 8K it depends. A lot of multiplayer? Single player? Frames before quality? In your case i would start with tuning your RAM. And if you keep your Rift - the CPU right after it. That would be the most cost efficient upgrade.

Both Cards running OC. AMD@2100 RAM + 115% Powertarget | Adrenalin 20.12.1 Nvidia@1920GPU + 370W | 457.51 Benched with standart VR settings and DCS SuperSampling 1.0 The new driver gets rid of a lot of studdering and is absolutely recomended.

AMD RX 6800XT vs. Nvidia RTX 3080

We benched some more... -
Hey folks, EDIT: All the performance issues discussed in here with the AMD 6000 series are solved with setting your PCIe slot to GEN3 in your mainboard-BIOS with AMD CPU´s! my brother (med0ra) and me spend again a lot of hours testing and benching hardware. I'd like to thank Cassiop aswell. He made some interesting testing on different RAM speed and compared a Ryzen 5000 to an older Intel. I will put his findings in here aswell. I'd you guys to participate and help to make this kind of complete hardware guide. I will discripe how we made our benchmarks and if you have the same VR Headset and either a matching graphic card or a matching CPU you could send me your results. I will put them in here aswell. How we testet: We used Gryz's DCS benchmark files which you can find here. Benchmark file 1 was used. For settings we used the standard DCS VR settings which you can find in the options. The fps were counted and monitored with fpsVR (here - no one of us is related to them). I can absolutely recomend fpsVR to fine your settings in VR, since you can easily figure out if your gpu or cpu are bottlenecking with the settings you are using. For testing you have to open fpsVR which gives you the follwing windows. Open the Settings and turn the history on. Now go to Basic where you can fin the Reset-Button. Press this button on the start and on the end of the Benchmark als the Benchmark tells you to. The default path for the History-Viewer is: C:\Users\*username*\Documents\fpsVR - as statet in the fpsVR settings above. The tracks are listet there and should be slightly over 3minutes. Following hardware was used: Ryzen 5900X System: - Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro - G.Skill Sniper 32GB 4x single ranked @3600 CL19 (OC) - different SSD for game and operating system Ryzen 5600X System: - Gigabyte B550M Aorus Pro - Crucual Ballistix 32GB 4x single ranked @3840 CL16 (OC) - different SSD for game and operating system Ryzen 2700 System: - MSI X370 Gaming Carbon - Kingston HyperX 32GB 2x dual ranked @3200 CL16 AMD Radeon RX 6800XT - Stock - OC 115% Power Target - 2100Mhz for Ram Gigabyte RTX 3080 Aorus Master 10G - Stock 1845Mhz 19002Mhz (actual boost up to 1995Mhz) - OC 1940Mhz 20002Mhz (actual boost up to 2085Mhz) Zotac GTX 1080ti - with Arctic Watercooling 120 - boosts a bit higher than Air cooled ones due to lower temperatures Cassiops findings: Here is the Link to his Reddit where he explained everything in detail: Cassiops Reddit Our results: There are still results missing. But we benched on two computers for over 12h and at some point you just have enough. I hope we will fill the missing bits, but its really time consuming putting the graphic cards back and forth. Pimax can force the Nvidia driver to use fixed foveated rendering. This means that the rendering quality outside of the sweet spot, which is blurry anyways, will be rendered with less quality. As you will notice there is quite an improvement in performance. We had just a short look at it and it seemed to be fine. There is a discussion about it somewhere in the Forum. Below the OC reffers to the graphics card. DCS is set to SS 1.0 except when written Both. And some Benchmarks for the Reverb G2 benched on Ryzen 5600X Standard VR settings aswell. I think the results already available can give you guys a good estimate if and what to upgrade if you´re on a budget and cant get a complete new system. And it can give you a good idea which upgrate is worth it for you. As i meantioned earlier, if you have some hardware that matches in, feel free to benchmark and send me the results. I´d like to see some Intel system in here aswell. Regarding Frametimes: The Radeon is absolute King and therefore way better for VR! Have a good one, med & jay
