  1. "Over the next two to three days we need to conduct server maintenance. This will likely result in temporary outages with our file servers, master multiplayer server, and possibly our site/forums. Thanks Waggs" Not sure what your question is. The multiplayer server might be down, like he said.
  2. Basically what he said ^ - IIRC, FC3 aircraft are planned to receive the AFM updates, that's all. I for one would love it if they provided keys to their new individual FC aircraft on steam, because I bought FC3 before they even announced they'd be going to steam, but, I'm not expecting it at all. Now the Black Shark 2 Upgrade issue, THAT is quite annoying and I think they handled that terribly. Why we can't surrender our BS1 + BS2 uprade keys for a BS2 Full key is beyond me.
  3. That was my point. Figured you must be doing things other than gaming with that chip.
  4. Interesting choice with the FX chips. Tom's Hardware never recommends AMD FX chips for gaming. You use your computer for work/rendering also?
  5. It's kind of a progression game. You have to work up to the higher tiers. You don't have to spend one cent if you don't want to. I've already got a tier 2 US plane and I just started playing yesterday. It comes with tier 1 planes from every country unlocked.
  6. I just got War Thunder on Steam. Fired it up, and all I can say is wow. I totally agree with what Strut & gear monkey said. A lot of the testers to this day defend the DCS engine because of "What's going on behind the scenes" that we don't know about. (Physics calculations, systems complexity, etc) That seems to be why we can't get this level of graphic quality via DCS. I happen to think that it's very possible, but ED have invested so much time and money into the 10+ year old engine they have, that it's just too risky to start from scratch. Which, I hate to say, really sucks. I'm always so pleased with DCS and the improvements they're making, until I play a game like War Thunder, and see what flights sims really are capable of. Lastly, just imagine the benefits of writing a new engine, that takes advantage of multiple cores, has better graphics AND physics, explosions, particles, lighting, etc. etc. A guy can dream can't he?
  7. Interesting that this comes up time and time again. It must really not be clear as to what exactly these modules are, or what exactly FC3 is.
  8. I blame Origin.
  9. Smoke and wingtip vortices are really looking awesome. Good stuff.
  10. Hello all I noticed that when you initially open DCS: World from Steam, it does say your in game playing DCS: World, but once you actually launch the game engine, it just says you're online. Is there anyway to link all DCS.exes to steam so it always recognizes when you're playing? I only ask because it'd be nice to know who's playing (Multiplayer or Singleplayer would be helpful also.) Thanks
  11. +1 Well said. I still don't really understand why they've kept the BS2 upgrade separate for so long. I cannot see one downside for trading customers BS1+BS2 Upgrade keys for a BS2 Full key. Only thing I could think of is that it's just not possible.
  12. They wont get listed in your library. They're all "DLC" now for DCS: World. So download DCS: World via steam and you'll be set with the modules automatically.
  13. I guess there is no chance ED will supply keys to the individual FC modules to people who already own FC3? I know Waggs mentioned FC3 owners would already be getting the AFM upgrades included with their FC3 purchase, but, I just have a feeling the ubi-soft license is going to be a brick wall when it comes to transferring keys for free for the individual FC aircraft. :: Sniped :: Basically what cichlidfan said.
  14. Interesting. Either way, I couldn't be happier about this Steam migration. I love updating through Steam, using the friends list, achievements, and just having a neat little collection of games in one area on my computer. I just hope they iron out some of the other little issues. Owners of FC3 will hopefully be able to grab the individual FC aircraft at some point. And BS2 upgrade owners have always had the short end of the stick when it comes to DCS: World. I would love to trade in both my BS1 + BS2 upgrade keys for a single BS2 key. That or just wait for a tremendous sale of BS2 full.
  15. Chief Technology Officer. Sounds cooler than Executive Officer anyway.
  16. Oh how I would love to see what you guys could do with that extended engine model. :joystick:
  17. Has he officially stated whether or not the 6DOF pit is in fact, a new 3D cockpit on par with the new FC3 pits?
  18. Thanks c0ff. I'll be staying at 1.2.4 for quite some time it seems. There's still so many other things broken I doubt it's worth keeping current atm.
  19. "ATC Improvements We acknowledge that the air traffic control environment needs improvement. One near-term effort to address this is a number of improvements to the ATC and takeoff and landing procedures. We plan to release these in DCS version 1.2.5. - Establish orbit zones with fixed positions several km from the end of the runway. - We have increased the landing rates. - Aircraft taking off will now have a higher priority than landing aircraft. - Out of fuel and damaged landing aircraft will have the highest priority. Further ATC improvements will continue." This is what I was most looking forward to in 1.2.5. I'm sure in time it will get improved. Still confused about aircraft taking off having higher priority than landing aircraft.
  20. You probably haven't downloaded an update the day of. Because I've had both 5000+ and under 50 kb/s with ED servers. It's just that they can't handle a lot of traffic at one time, where as steam.. well.. it's steam.
  21. Yeah most likely they would still go through the ED auto-updater. BUT, wouldn't it be great if steam just did it for you? 63.7 kb/s to 5 + MB/s.
  22. I still hope ED finds a very simple way to inform people about the stand alone 1.1.1.1, either that or just find a way to better integrate these modules. I always see posts about people being confused about patching/updating, etc. Also if other 3rd party modules aren't integrated with DCS: World (as far as updating goes) Things could get very complicated/confusing for most people.
  23. Not too excited about the Nevada images. It looks like our current engine with different buildings and trees. I don't even see terrain shading or shadows on any of the objects in game. I wonder if they even changed the way water is rendered. (Flat plane of water under the ground mesh) Either way, it'll be nice to have new effects, smoother frame rates, and different scenery to look at.
