  1. Another tip of the hat to prccowboy, you’ve saved my life (as well as my hair, was starting to pull out one by one as I trouble shot this weird bug). THANK YOU!!
  2. Hello mission builders: I’m relatively new to ME, but in the past 2 months I’ve come pretty far learning triggers, creating some useful training missions as my buddy and i are still sharpening our skills with the hornet. My latest project is an F-18 carrier trap practice mission, inspired by the LSO mission that’s floating around here. I can start a new thread if anyone is interested in knowing more, but basically I have a pretty good series of triggers that play many LSO commands/sounds to help get that “OK” pass. So as I get crazier into this mission, I’m creating my own spreadsheet to keep track of my “grade” and wire caught (I think it’s called a greenie board IRL??). I have a “Message to All” triggered for what wire is caught, and your grade based on deviations, but I’m tired of looking through my small nose hole in my Oculus to jot down my wire/grade. I was thinking there must be a way to script this with a write-to-file of the messages that are displayed from triggers. I’ve done a little searching and looked at MIST and MOOSE (along with a few others) but didn’t see (or know exactly) what I’m looking for. Is this possible? And if so, anyone able to help me or guide me in the right direction? Again, I have no scripting/LUA experience, but I do have some programming experience. Thanks!
  3. I really hesitated posting anything about this the other day when I brought it down, but finding this thread makes me feel better I’m no the only one with a twisted mind in DCS. I was flying the hornet the other day online with my buddy just screwing around, loaded up with 2 MK-84’s, flew over to Dubai and dropped them both on the burj khalifa. Seconds later it came down vertically with a lot of smoke and fire at the base which afterward persisted. If anything, I thought it was too easy to bring down, they must have updated its damage model from before. But pretty dang cool, in a sick and twisted way. :)
  4. I’m not- I’m sure someone will disagree with me but i don’t think it makes much difference, you don’t start off with that much fuel and I’m full burner nearly the whole mission except when I see a heater coming my way. I suppose just as you merge would be a good time if you want that little bit of maneuvering edge. Maybe I’ll give it a try, have it all ready to jettison so just a push of the hashed button.
  5. Ok, a little update- just tried the Caucus IA 4v4 about 10 times in a row, always getting at least one kill before getting smoked, and then my worthless wingmen get slaughtered one by one. Using the same techniques I listed above but flying about 360° heading keeping an eye on the bandits when their contrail becomes visible, one usually turns to engage me and then I turn in at last second after a few notches to defeat his Radar AA-10 Alamo, then when head to head around 6-7NM I’ll fire off an AIM 7 when he’s locked and then an AIM9 just in case. Splash 1. Then immediately look for next guy (I think the 3 others usually chug along engaging dash 2,3,&4, But one usually peels off and turns to go after me and i usually die). Try to immediately lock and kill any contrail you see heading south (listen to wingmen call missile launch, easy to spot the smoke and know the guy firing missile is bandit, so use the boresight locking method <I think> and sometimes I’ll uncage AIM9 if I’m getting impatient for lock and he’s right on my nose), I then fired off 3 missiles at next guy (over kill but this is where I keep dying, gotta make sure #2 dies fast), then spotted next bandit thanks to wingman calling missile launch, lined him up, fire, splash 3. I got lucky spotting bandit 4 next from his Smokey Russian engines, and lit him up. My wingmen all survived but basically were fodder to distract bogeys for me. I got “mission complete” message but knew there were two more bombers that are miles in trail of the Migs just waiting to get smoked with no more protection. So this is where I’m a little embarrassed to admit but while out of Radars, I moved in nose hot with AIM9, locked up and fired. I forgot they have their own heaters for protection and the bastard shot me too. Oh well, I still felt good downing all 4 migs finally after like 50+ tries! I can post a track if anyone is interested. Good luck and good hunting!
  6. I’ve now beat it a few times (granted I die and my wingmen live to tell the stories) in Caucus map, and once beat it as sole survivor all banged up in NTTR map (similar mission but with SU-27’s). Here’s what was working better for me: For caucus IA mission: Tell flight or element to Pincer right immediately, go full burner and swing left, lock them up if you want but firing off a shot early doesn’t do squat with the MiG-29 radar missiles that will nail you first. Around 16-17NM they will have fired at you, notch left. Dunno if it’s a bug or what but almost everytime you go 90° bank as your put them on your beam, the missile lock/fire warning drops. Re-engage. Rinse and repeat a few times and you’ll get in close enough for an AIM9 shot. Watch out, usually one Mig focus on you and hard find him with the clouds but you might merge and get into knife fight. Pray your wingmen hang in for awhile, but they usually get blasted. If you’re lucky, you might get a couple AIM9 off quickly as you close initially on the furball and at least make the score in your advantage by downing one or two quickly. I’m gonna keep at it and see if any other methods help out. Definitely hard with current radar and AIM7 limitations. But fun! I’m sure someone will say I’m way off with my tactics, I’m just trying anything that works, I’m open to suggestions!
  7. Wow, crazy you posted this today, I was about to ask the same thing just now. I’ve wasted hours today trying different techniques, can never kill more than one or two before I get smoked. Would love to see a track of someone beating this mission.
  8. I was having the same problem, couldn’t dispense chaff or flares even in bypass mode with a mission i made where i started on the carrier. Then I realized that you need the master arm armed. Maybe you didn’t realize that like me? Also, i use the dispense FWD and AFT switch to dispense in bypass mode. Hope that helps.
  9. Updating here in Los Angeles. 2256.9MBytes. Roughly 50 peers. Already 25% done
  10. Getting bored waiting, had to pull out my calculator...This thread has had an average of approximately 3.186646433990895 minutes between posts since it started 3 days ago. Think it’s down to a fraction of that in past 12 hours. Come on update, my fingers are getting tired!!
  11. +1 I’d be more inclined to play CA if only this worked correctly... has so much potential, yet all I ask is proper head movement so I don’t get sick. It’s totally unplayable in VR.
  12. I love the feature too, but I think the sun glare protection should be more. To be honest, I mostly use it to wave to players when on the ramp or in close formation on MP servers. On that note, would be cool if DCS would implement a host of hand signals to other pilots/ground crew like they do in real life. I know, now I’m dreaming... but the visor up/down in quick succession is pretty close to my dream!
  13. I too freaked out tonight when I saw the gloves, my first time running DCS since getting my Oculus Touch recently. Glad I found this thread, hopefully there is more to come with this, tho I never will have any intention to use the touch with DCS, just totally impractical. But gives me hope for a glove type interface like the video above, but where you can see your hands like what we're seeing with the touch in DCS right now. Getting more and more excited about the future of VR!
  14. 6 years ago I was flying in and out of KLAS every week, I'm sure I've got some photos but they're shot on older iPhones so won't be as good. I'll look through my albums and see what I can dig up. Occasionally we fly to Vegas now so I'll definitely try to get some good shots next time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Very nice! Glad I'm not the only nerd that gets home from flying a long trip and then fires up DCS! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I fly a BBD-700 Global Express. It's no F-15 but it has a pretty good kick when you advance the thrust to takeoff power, especially when we're light weight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. More comparison shots from a different flight the other day... Enjoy!
  18. Good point, and just to add to this, my photos in first post are untouched, no filtering or anything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I thought it would be fun to take some photos of a common route I fly in real life and compare to DCS NTTR. I probably could have spent a little more time perfecting this comparison but you get the point with these. Comparisons were both at 41,000' and at the same time of day. I'm very impressed with the results, ED did a fantastic job with the colors, especially the sky/horizon.
  20. My Apple developer subscription expired and while trying to get it renewed Apple had a hacker attack on its Developer server. So I can't renew until they get their issues fixed. As soon as they do so I can get my subscription renewed, it'll be available again. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  21. Thanks Daz85UK, I appreciate the compliment! Funny, I think I'm capable of producing a much better app now, I've learned a lot about programming and iOS since making this app (it was my first app actually), but unfortunately I just don't have the time to devote enhancements to it right now. I haven't even had the time to play DCS in months! But I haven't given up on it, I do hope to make some enhancements and corrections some day... :|
  22. I'll check into this, thanks for the report Tom. I'm heading off to work for a week and a half, so might take a bit before I can get to the bottom of it, but I will. cheers!
  23. Just a quick note to let you all know that I went through and updated the app this morning. i didn't realize it had been crashing on everyone since iOS 5 came out... oops. So now it's iOS 5 and 6 compatible and shouldn't be crashing anymore. Sorry for the long wait, my sincere apologies. The update has to be reviewed by Apple first and will most likely be released in the next week or two for both the iPad and iPhone versions.
  24. Zomba, I did appreciate the very generous donation, I can say nobody else donated as much as you. I never asked for that much, I was happy with a couple bucks here and there when I was working on it. I actually put a lot of time in it, despite not being a polished app... I'm also not a professional programmer (this was my first attempt at an app), I'm a professional pilot to be quite honest. I'd be more than happy to send your donation back to you if you feel that way. What can I say, I made no promises to update this app forever, I have a busy job and haven't even been able to play DCS in forever. PM me if you want your donation back.
  25. Hi all, I really wish I had the time to continue work on the app. I've learned so much about developing apps on my projects since and think I could really improve and expand on these apps in a great way. I just am so busy with work and a couple work related apps that actually help pay for my time working on them that I just don't have the time right now to work on a community app. I know some people have asked for updates and maybe even releasing the source code, but honestly, the code is so shoddy (yes, I said it!) that I'd be embarrassed to release it! But I'm still here and check in occasionally, and hopefully I'll be able to get my hands back into it sometime in the near future. Sorry to all that wish I update it soon and thanks again for all the great comments! Cheers! -Sickdog
