  1. 2080 is not really an upgrade on the 1080Ti performance wise, except that it has RTX and DLSS support (both features probably useless for DCS) and 2080 Super is only slightly faster than 2080. 2080Ti would be noticeably faster, but it's way too expensive for what you get, IMHO. So, it really depends on what deals you can find. A used 1080Ti/2080/2080 Super still under warranty would be a best buy, I guess.
  2. Is it? Without trying it out in the sim, I'd expect Mil marks the max dry thrust position and anything above that is afterburner, while Max shows the maximum afterburner (and thus throttle movement) position.
  3. Yeah, that's true, especially since Intel switched to hexa core i7's as pretty much standard in laptops. They still offer the i5 quad core, but it can be usually found only in the lowest configurations. I'm sure that one would fare noticeably better regarding temperature and noise in not too thin laptops compared to hexa core i7. For example, a thin and light Gigabyte Aero 15 used to have a quad core i7 7700HQ and a 1060 GPU and on one review site the average noise while gaming was in the low 40's (like 42 dBA IIRC which is a pretty good value). Later came an upgrade to hexa core i7 8750h (with the same GPU) and the average noise while gaming jumped to 50dBA (or a bit more) which is rather loud. AMD surprisingly (even if those mobile CPU's are the older gen on 12nm) heats much less currently (even in quad core ULV CPU's where AMD 3500u or 3700u CPU's keep much higher clocks under load than Intel 8-series ULV CPU's, while having much lower temps). The Intel CPU's have an advantage in single-core performance, though, especially since these are not the latest AMD tech, but it shouldn't make a big difference (though it would be more noticeable than with a stronger GPU, I think). Edit: Found a comparison here for FX505 with Intel i5 and AMD 3750h: https://laptopmedia.com/review/asus-tuf-fx505-review-fresh-but-still-not-fully-polished/ Apparently, even the quad i5 config reaches high temperatures at around 90 degrees even when clocks drop down to around 3.0, while AMD drops down to higher 3.4 clock with the temps somewhat under 70 degrees. Not sure how high the CPU load is in DCS with a mid range GPU card, but I guess it might be higher than with a higher range GPU and with lower details if the FPS is not limited so these higher temperatures with Intel might be a problem (at least regarding noise) on this model.
  4. Thanks for the effort, seems like a pretty nice product, especially since aftermarket detents can be added. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=249484 The demonstration of different backlight colors for different modes was quite effective. I suppose that subsequently, each momentary toggle switch can change its own color to indicate the last pushed setting (i.e. up or down)?
  5. Pause and use Alt-Tab to desktop to check the output in the VoiceAttack window. You'll see if the command was recognized or there's some other issue. For example, yesterday I updated VoiceAttack and VIACOM and I usually use AUTO comms (i.e. one PTT command for all comms), but my voice commands didn't work and when I checked the output, I got some error that PTT use is not configured so I had to issue commands to Jester plugin via some other mapping (UHF I think). Have to check what's going on there.
  6. Usually, it's always the GPU, but you should at least have a newer gen CPU (like Intel i-series or AMD Ryzen). The FX6350 was a Bulldozer architecture which weighed heavily on multi-threaded support in Windows and apps for its performance which didn't really materialize. So, yeah, any GPU upgrade would be pulled back by the CPU's quite inefficient single-thread performance so upgrade the CPU and mobo first (a good option is to buy some used CPU+MoBo+RAM from ebay).
  7. I don't think this BS2 Upgrade module works anymore. You should be able to replace the BS2 Upgrade key with the full BS2 key following the link posted in FAQ here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/#1494986
  8. There was no intended ambiguity about it except perhaps in your mind. As they missed the release date mentioned on Steam, they stated in the newsletter that the exact date will be announced during the next week, not in the next newsletter. Then there was the exact date announced in the respective F-16C updates thread: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4054721&postcount=23 I wasn't really following the F-16 updates regularly as I thought I won't buy it on release, but even as such it was pretty clear to me that the release is happening that week and knowing that, I caught sight of the exact release date update the day before and then actually did decide to buy it on the release day. Man, it's certainly not easy to moderate these forums..
  9. Yeah, 2080Ti release price (still holding) was almost twice the release price of 1080Ti. It's a pretty cheeky boost in price, especially given the relatively minor non-RTX performance boost over the 1080Ti and the complete lack of RTX supported games.
  10. I guess a 2080 Super would be a much better value option given that the 2080Ti costs like 50% more, but doesn't give you more than 20% extra performance IIRC (at stock clocks at least). But, since you already own a 1080Ti, I'd advise waiting for the next gen card which should be out in the first half of the 2020.
  11. Thanks for the update, seems like a lot of much wanted features have been worked on in the background. Looking forward to the campaign (finally!) and the carrier to be released later this year. I hope the campaign will use the Forrestal class and the A-6 AI?
  12. I don't really have SST anymore so can't try as I switched to TM Target, but IIRC, the advanced mode had press, repeat and release columns. So, did you put this Alt-; combo in the repeat column?
  13. Perhaps it already does that? The first ALT is press and hold, then you get multiple semicolons (while the ALT is held which equals to ALT+;) then when you release the button, ALT is released.
  14. Yeah, because the radar is the same tech, just enlarged so the only difference between them from the perspective of an RWR is signal strength, I guess.
  15. You can always press cancel and switch to direct server http download and see how that works out for you.
  16. I can understand that if you use mounts, but if you have it on the desktop or some stand in front of you or something, it's somewhat too far forward. It's perfectly understandable what they can be used for, but I don't really need to adjust those that often (e.g. in those rare occasions, a look towards the panel and a mouse wheel adjustment is enough). I'd prefer some more used controls to be at the front row, but that's subjective, of course. Though, I'm really curious to see what sorts of extra panels they have in plan for the new throttle.
  17. Sure thing, but that's 60 GBP thrown towards a dead end DCS-wise. E.g. I can see refurbished PC's with Geforce 970 on Ebay UK starting 300 GBP so I'd rather scrape money together for one of such used PC deals (he'll probably have to pay more plus a monitor, but still).
  18. The SATA controller on that CPU gen should be SATA 3, the SATA300 rating is for the hard-drive only. The A400 sequential write speed is noticeably slower than competition, but you shouldn't notice that I guess, especially with 16 GB of RAM. I'd presume that HDD caused stutters happen when it has to retrieve some random data which it doesn't have preloaded in the RAM (and in these random reads the SSD is faster) or if it's moving data between RAM and swap file. Since you mention freezes (recurring?), the 635M GPU is pretty archaic and I'm surprised DCSW 2.5 even runs on it, I'd presume the slowdowns happen when it's faced with vastly increased number of objects (polygons) it has to draw. E.g. I have a noticeably faster 650M on some old portable Sony Vaio (with a same gen Intel CPU, but dual-core) and it can barely run Unity based strategy games. So, I sincerely doubt the SSD will sort out your problems, apart from having faster loading times and shorter stutters when random loading some stuff. You really need a much better GPU, IMHO, even at 1366*768.
  19. The swap is simple enough, but I'm not sure it will solve your stutter problems as you didn't describe your laptop configuration. The optical bay interface is SATA, but it could be SATA 2 (capped at about 250 MB/s) or SATA 3 (capped at about 550 MB/s or somewhat less), depending on your laptop model. You could actually clone your current Windows installation to the SSD with some backup tool (or at least move the Windows swap file to the SSD, as well).
  20. Honestly, I never really liked Virpil throttles as the throttle grip has a short throw and is mounted way too forward (it should be mounted centrally like e.g. TM Warthog). Also, it has too many rotary analog controls at the bottom row that I wouldn't have use for. The only thing I miss on the TM Warthog throttle is the five position rotary encoder. The new grip itself seems very nice on the V3, but it's offset by no afterburner detents which is a joke in that price range. But, this "new" design looks somewhat funny if it's really going to be the main option from now on. Mounting that toyish-sized thing on a TM Warthog mount just to have the empty space as a constant reminder of what you're missing seems off.. But, I guess the idea is to allow you to choose the extra control panel for it, so I'd have to see what those will look like first. Though, I'd expect to see some inline connection options at the rear or sides of it for these panels. I guess the front one would have to be positioned at an angle given those protruding front connections.
  21. There is a webshop for a while now (search prdevices pl) and it's like 70 EUR without the plates (there are some custom plates for Mirage 2000 and MiG-15 modules apparently). Not sure how well it works with the stock transparent plastic plates and custom paper printouts? I've considered these, but given the relatively high price, I figured I'd rather buy a 11,6" FHD LCD for roughly the same price and mount the MFD's on it. Then I could either show static images with my programmed functions or in-game MFD screens if use them as such. Not saying it's overpriced as it seems like a well made product, but for what it does, an LCD would be way more flexible, IMHO.

  23. And when does the "early Autumn 2019" end? :)
  24. Yeah, but that's not worth paying the upgrade premium unless you have money to burn.
  25. IMHO, there are clear advantages if ED would gradually take over all the modules' missiles, adapt them to a common standard and integrate them in the base game (plus maintain them afterwards if necessary). On the other hand, given that the progress with upgrading current in-game missiles seems to move at glacial pace, it could be some years till this happens..
