  1. I actually get black/invisible textures and other nasty problems on my Win7 32bit machine... have to have graphics all on Low to be able to fly.... even though I've a 5870 and other decent hardware. Have searched and read-up, this sounds just what I need, thx!
  2. Here we go again... Warrior + Babu: +1 I find myself defending ED more often than not. I wouldn't do so if I knew the company was just churning out a title and then hit and running, "Screw you guys, I'm off in my new Porsche"-style. But it's plain to see ED's passion and conviction and commitment are genuine. And the commercial realities of creating such a high-fidelity consumer title in a flat, contracted market cannot be mentioned enough to add context to the reality of the situation. DCS:A10C is right where I'd expected it to be in it's initial gold-state. Not perfect, but damn, I will never ever be as close to sitting in a real Hog as I am now. And that's good enough.
  3. That PDF is full of Win, thx for the link!!
  4. Ethereal, you be too good in trying to engage in rational discussion! This is one argument that logic seems to be having no impact on.
  5. Say whaaaaaaaaa? Are you going to pimp it with DX11 this weekend? :megalol:
  6. Bone(head), So you've been away for 4-5 years, and with no research or reading of FAQs, forums, you wade in with an attitude and a bag full of incorrect assumptions??? Nice going. "A-10C is a rebadged game"?? Have you ignored everything that people have said in this thread? I'm not even going to bother pointing you in the right direction....
  7. Brilliant summary Jab, you now have an apprentice that will feedback in about 3 weeks! I'll adapt this, probably use my Promodeller washes primarily instead of the water-colours.
  8. My opinion is that if you ever built a plastic kit as a kid and then stopped once you discovered girls, then you will find it strangely compelling once you give it a go again as an adult. IMHO, it's deffo more 'learnt skill' than requiring inate artistic ability. You just need practice and the right tools. Although once you start doing dioramas and the like, that does become very artistic, but I'm just commenting on a raw, isolated build of a plastic kit. Since you're 1500 posts down Hassata, I'm guessing you're a massive jet fan. Then you have to at least try it! Oh, and to really bring this thread down into the mud, this is exactly what I'm doing while I wait for B6!!!! <runs for cover>
  9. What the heck is that hog dropping?? Fuel tank? Grand-slam? Napalm?? Good luck with the pit conversion, life's too short for me to bother with that sort carry-on ;-) Jab, I have a question... that build-thread of your F18F is in German... My own Revel F18F is now curing after main coat... I've been following tips from a couple of recent magazine build-reports, and the result is a massive leap for me technically, and my new H&S airbrush has made a big difference over my Chinese knock-off. So massively happy so far. So I'm gonna be another couple weeks doing the Diamondback wing patterns, glossing and decalling. But once I'm into the weathering stage, I'd like to use whatever technique you applied, albeit a little more subtle since this is a CAG-bird. Do you mind repeating how you did it? Thx!
  10. No, just this specific 186 page thread that you've been appropriately merged into.
  11. Seriously? RLY? You missed the 3000 posts recapping and updating the whole b5 /b6 situation On an hourly basis? No. No b5 is on the way. Wait for b6
  12. This was my exact thought when I read the original post. I'm also in commercial hardware/software and for my company it would be an unnecessary business hassle. After all it will cost money to support/manage this model, above and beyond the existing, simpler model.
  13. :shocking: That's your build Jab??? I just coughed up a lung with admiration. You have really mastered the art, and I hope I can ever get close to those results. I'm half way through my Diamondbacks CAG 1:48 F18-F, I'm suddenly going to have to slow down and raise my game :) I'm sure I've read a build of this on the net elsewhere, am I right in saying the weathering uses paint dabbed on by sponge and then blended with AB?
  14. Yeah I know Jab, although that comment only holds valid for the Jug, ground crews probably wash F-22s every other flight! ;-) Both these planes were completed before my weathering skills developed. But it is (still) such a scary phase... you have a beautiful model infront of you after main-coat, panel-line wash, decls. And then you look at the risk of what a botched weathering phase will do... and maybe you've already spent 2-3 months on the build and you just want.The.Damned.Thing.Finished! And so you just convince yourself you were after a museum-piece finish all along! But I intend on going all-out on my SEAC Viet-era F4 for weathering. And it's my most complex build to date with lots of aftermarket resin... so I am pushing myself, and so looking forward to hopefully having something that I can show off!
  15. I love modelling and am currently building 1:48 F18-F, F-4II and EF2000 in parallel. The wife ain't too pleased... Here's the only pics of previous planes I've finished that I can find to hand, both of them 1:48 models from Academy and Tamiya.
  16. I'm British. And Irish. And torn between the 2.
  17. Hi all, With the thread elsewhere asking about jet-related DVDs, and someone suggested Jetstream (which looks excellent), I thought I'd create a dedicated thread asking: Are there jet-related movies/documentaries out there on Bluray? I'd love to watch some proper hi-def footage of jets in action from in and outside the cockpit. Any suggestions? Cheers!
  18. lol, yeah StageFright, it's probably wise that it wasn't released for just that reason! God knows this sim has strained enough relationships, it would NOT be good for people to choose JDAMS over flowers and chocolates tonight!
  19. Did anyone else see this thread title and think that someone was commenting on the release of beta 6! ;-)
  20. Yup. and the more we moan, if ED decide its creating bad vibes and affecting the external impression of the franchise from a marketing POV, there may be no beta for DCS:F18/16! And god knows none of us want that!

Doh, abort abort! Where's a 'delete thread' button when you need one!
  22. Most likely already reported, but LockOn is visible on the BBC website!: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/click_online/9386740.stm
  23. Hi dvarrin, - Where can we buy all those switches and buttons, Especially the buttons having a protection cover as in an aircraft? In the UK, I use Ebay, RS Online, Maplin - How do you do the connection with the computer. How many buttons can we have for a joystick and what do we need for the interface with the computer? Connect the switches to this: http://www.leobodnar.com/products/BU0836X/ The Bu8036X appears a joystick in Windows. Then use the fantastic XPadder software to do advanced 'switch to keyboard' mapping. - How do you put lables on the metal plates? I use Letraset transfers/decals.
  24. Yeah, it's not black and White, for sure the company as a whole must be profitable, but it's definitely a difficult and strategic decision in deciding in how much of those profits are used to maintain titles that are no longer generating revenue, and for long. And at the end of the day the primary goal for any company is to generate profit for it's shareholders. But of course I accept that's the capitalist western Way of looking at it, more socialist posters will quite likely see things differently! The reality is so much more complex than just 'bug xxx looks easy to fix, why hasn't it been fixed!'
