  1. Mods - with the benefit of hindsight - can ya move this into Screenshots and Movies in a day or two? More suitable for posting pictures... Hey, Brit_Radar_Dude is "in the House" as you chaps in the USA would say. Right now I'm in S.E.Utah doin' the National Parks - Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, etc.... Meeting up with Colorado folks - IguanaKing , Hitman214th and hopefully one or two others to go shooting at DragonMans sometime this coming weekend. Will be in Detroit area from Oct 3 thru 17th and trying to meet up with S77th_ReOrdain. Boston from 17th to 23rd. Have arranged to meet up with IronHand up in N.H. Will post pics as I get 'em.... If you are in these areas, get in contact and buy me a beer. My US cell is (617) 455-1259. Coverage in Utah is real patchy (no surprises there). Regards to everyone, B_R_D
  2. Excellent stuff on those last few screenies, you can almost see the individual cabbages! Any chance of doing something with the edge of the small rivers? When flying high they look OK, and when super low, they look OK too (I guess becuase I go past them so fast) but at medium heights, they always look a bit false to me..... ...and if you can link up with Grandsurf so your Mod and his airfield taxiway signs Mod are compatable, then that could be the most important Mod since........
  3. Actually I suspect that most Mod makers, skin makers, etc would prefer that they get some feedback onto the download site. Often see stuff that has been downloaded hundreds of times and not a single comment back. I must confess to being guilty as well, but am trying nowadays to put some feedback.
  4. Northern Rock - LOL! Very topical mate.....
  5. NATO countries (just like most other countries) operate what is called an ADIZ (Air Defense Identification Zone). This would typically stretch along a countries land borders or in the case of a sea border would stretch out over the sea. An aircraft that enter that zone or might enter that zone would be indentified and if a potential threat would be intercepted by a fighter. In the specific case of Russian Air Force Bears coming around the Norwegian coast and heading toward the UK, then Norwegian radars would be the first to detect them. If they enter the Norwegian ADIZ then RNoAF F-16's would likely perform an intercept and escort. Depending on the route the Bears flew, they may also be detected by Danish radar on the Faeroe Islands. That radar (I believe still a Type 91 - one of mine) reports into the UK Air Defense network. The Type 92 (early TPS-59/FPS-117) at RAF Buchan in Aberdeenshire would likely be next to detect the Bears. Both of those radars would feed into the CRC (Control and Reporting Centre) at RAF Boulmer. The RAF would attempt to intercept and escort the Bears at a range well outside UK territory. RAF fighters would be controlled during the intercept from Boulmer. Just as the aim of the Russian Air Force is to demonstrate that their Bears are capable of reaching the UK, the aim of the RAF would be to demonstrate the capability to intercept them well before they reach the UK. Until recently (2006 I think) there was still a radar stationed at RAF Saxa Vord on the northern tip of the Shetland Islands. Perhaps with the resumption of these Bear flights, the RAF might reconsider the closure of Saxa Vord. It was a most inhospitable place, I recall hearing of a severe storm that swept one radar clean over the the cliffs! I guess it was the RAF's equivalent of a US seviceman being sent to a weather station in Alaska. Interestingly RAF Buchan was the home for the TPS-43 captured from Argentina on the Falklands, known as Type 99 during its RAF service.
  6. VF-11 tail in the background? From the year you quoted, I'd guess it must be an F-14A.
  7. I'm the same as Konny.....
  8. Well this is kind of true but not always. If you have set up flights to "take off from runway" all with the same start time at waypoint 0, then you will get the first flight take off. Once they are well into the air (perhaps 3 mins like Alvarez said), then the next flight comes into existence at the start of the runway and they take off. If you do the same but "takeoff from parking", you get the same thing. But with takeoff from parking it is possible to have many aircraft all appear at once. The way to do it is to make sure you are all in the same GROUP. Example:- you want a couple of F-16 flying ground attack and you and a wingman in F-15 to excort them. Make the F-16 pair be one FLIGHT in a GROUP and you in the other FLIGHT in the same GROUP. Of course you will have to share the same waypoints, But even though you share the same waypoints (of course your player F-15 and wingman doesn't have to follow them), you can be allocated different TASKS and even assigned different TARGET's from ATTACK waypoints. The picture below shows how to create your AI wingmen ie adding extra PILOT's in your FLIGHT. Above the line that says PILOT is the line that says FLIGHT <> of <>, use that to create other FLIGHT's in the GROUP. Note that all the FLIGHT's in a GROUP have to be from the same country.
  9. For atmosphere, maybe have a friendly helo landing at your base as you taxi to the runway, have a couple of fuel trucks wandering around the base. Have a "follow me" truck lead you to the runway - I did that in my Crimea Tour. Crimea Tour Link Look for missions by a guy in the community called MBot, he is pretty damn good at adding atmosphere to an airfield with a few well placed static objects and moving AI vehicles / helo's / planes. Run the start of his missions to see how they look, then open them in the Mission Editor and see how he did it. Here is a link to his mission pack on LockonFiles.... Mbot mission pack link A problem you might find with certain airbases is that your aircraft will start in one part of the base, the AI might be clear across on the other side of the base. It depends on the base, the size of the aircraft - small AI jets will start from a HAS (hardened aircraft shelter) if there are any on the base. Also on some bases, the taxi time from the starting position (HAS or parking spot) to the runway can be a long time, the AI taxi at a fixed speed that you cannot alter. The taxi time can vary from a couple of minutes to over ten minutes :( Alvarez has already given you a link to a post that contains my results, but here it is again... Taxi time link If you want to get really fancy, by placing static object aircraft to occupy parking spots, it is possible to amend which spots you and the AI start on.
  10. What we need is someone to make a bouncing bomb Mod......
  11. Terrific pictures TorwaK. Keep posting them.....
  12. If it was in Liverpool, they would come back the next night and steal the cinder blocks!
  13. Wind Sock? Good idea - that's really thinking outside the shoe box!
  14. As I'm originally from (near) Nottingham, that's even more funny for me. Reminds me of the joke about Rev Ian Paisley surrounded by his Orangemen standing in Belfast city centre carrying a bicycle. "What are you doing?" asked the local Press. "I'm holding a Raleigh!!"
  15. Even better is LOME, an upgraded version of LOTU. http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=82&lid=789&ttitle=Lock_On_Mission_Editor_LOME_v1.1#dldetails
  16. Yep, a great Community. I'm off to the US soon for a holiday. Gonna meet up with a few folks from the Lockon Community for beers, that'll be a good laugh. I'll be sure and make a new thread before I go and post up some pics while I'm over there....
  17. 'kin great.....
  18. I'd been flying Lockon for a couple of months and I'm in my trusty A-10, flying an SP mission high in the mountains North of Sukhumi in the late afternoon. Had taken out most of my targets, I get complacent and lose concentration, fly over enemy AAA, take a bunch of hits from a Shilka. What's the damage? Damn, handling is bad, I've lost bits of the control surfaces. Also lost the HUD and still one truck to deal with. Switch to cannon, come in at a dive angle that seems roughly correct, hose the target, BOOM! Damn that felt good, never had to do that that before. Pull away - chaff/flares, Oh Sh*t, I've hung around too long and an Su-25 has turned up looking for me. Don't panic, don't panic! No HUD, but maybe I can go air to air and use my ears and see if my trusty Sidewinder can lock him up. I get a tone - Blam! I toast the sucker... Now all I have to do is fly home and land for tea and medals. FUEL 1500. What the f*ck ?? Quick look at the fuel indicator and I realise I am the Exxon Valdez re-visited. Damn, I was so wrapped up in losing the HUD that I never noticed that I also took hits in the fuel tanks. FUEL 800. Climb, climb, CLIMB....... In a VERY short space of time, FUEL 0 and I am transformed from Brit_RADAR_Dude into my fellow countryman - Brit_GLIDER_Pilot! Luckily I can see the lights of Sukhumi in the far distance. I'm literally shaking with nerves as I successfully attempt my first ever no engine landing. Whooping with joy, jumping around the room, no computer game has ever made me feel this euphoric. I really need to get out more.....
  19. I think those black and white charts on Olivier's site (the link from Azrayen's post above) are the ones that the majority of Lockon folks use? They do not have labels (A,B,C, etc) for the taxiways of every airfield. I think about 5 or 6 are not labelled. I have seen other airfield maps (eg. by Ruggbutt) but they have the same number (or fewer) taxiway labels.... I would say that the black and white charts are the sensible base for labelling the taxiways and that whatever logic was used for assigning the letters to taxiways on those charts be extended to the remaining ones. Please don't ask me what that logic was, I've had a quick look at the charts and can't figure it out :(
  20. grandsurf - rep inbound. I was gonna ask if you could add those signs and you already have! Excellent work.... Really looking forward to this Mod.
  21. Systems I've seen will allow a choice of intercept option - head on, flank attack, rear attack. If you want to think about adding more features in the future you might consider something like that. Another feature is Defended Areas. You define an area of the map, and the system alerts the controller when the area is threatened based on the bandit's current speed, direction of flight, distance from the area.
  22. ROFL - at least the map would be easy to make!!
  23. I've noticed that too. Depending on the zoom level, it might show nothing, or show a black square or show the building correctly.
  24. Yep, this is known about. Most everyone calls it a bug, but not really as I don't recall the Devs ever said that refuelling would work in MP. I've read folks on the Forums say that if clients get really really close then they can see the basket at the last second and refuel when in Russian jets, dont know if the same for US jets.
