A slightly more worrying aspect of the radar section of that video is what appears to be a civil airlane just to the West of the engagement zone. Only watched that vid (Groove's post #14) a couple of times, but what kind of distance would folks guess from the engagement zone to that airlane?

First-hand account of MiG-29 radar

What nscode said..... -
Mmmm, that sounds like a slow antenna turning rate for that range.....

Then you have placed an AI aircraft and not a Static. When I say Static, I meant a Static Object. My bad for not making myself clearer. Don't use the "Add New Aircraft" button in the Mission Editor, use the "Add New Static Object" button (its icon looks like a railway wagon). This enables you to place any static object you like, vehicles, ships, aircraft, helo's and (in FC) buildings. They will burn if destroyed, but they won't move or shoot. They use up less CPU since the Lockon code does not have to do much to manage them.

Terrific screenies Viper, top notch!

Lockon will place your aircraft in a specific spot on an airbase. If that spot is occupied, it will use the next spot, etc. Therefore it is possible to change where aircraft start by filling up the parking spaces by placing static aircraft there. But this would be very time consuming to figure out where the spots are on a particular base to do this..... If you are talking about both your aircraft and also AI aircraft, then Lockon will place AI jets inside HAS (hardened aircraft shelters) if the base has them. This can mean (on some bases), your jet starts in a regular parking spot, but your AI wingmen start in HAS's on the other side of the base. Another thing to consider (that is also airbase dependent) is the time to taxi to the runway. You cannot change the taxiing speed of the AI. It can take anything from a couple of minutes to a mind-numbing 10 minutes for your AI wingmen to reach the runway - so choose your airbase carefully for your mission. I did a bit of research a while ago in answer to a question someone asked about this, and posted some results of the approx time to taxi to the runway and also regarding whether the AI start nearby to your jet or not - link below http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=10922&highlight=taxi+time

Nice little movie. While watching it I thought that some of the village looked familiar (train station), realised it was from Call Of Duty and it was confirmed in the credits. http://www.lelv30.net/tiedostot.php Check out The Entertainer by LeLv30 Apina, great bluescreen technique to add real people and terrific humour and music too. Probably my all time fave IL-2 movie. Plucky little Finland stands up to the Sov's with old Gloster Gladiators.

There are no nukes modelled in Lockon (and quite right too). Both Kh-55 and Kh-65 missiles are armed with conventional warheads and make a normal size Bang. Ignore the information in the Encyclopedia.

Friendly, Neutral, Ennemy Airbases?
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to JEFX's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Agreed. Whenever I have seen that question in the past, the answers by old Lockon hands have always been that to make an airbase for one side then you set an aircraft to take off in a few hours / days in the future. -
I'm wondering whether that 2nd guy was wandering along and when he saw the 2-seater jets, he yelled out "Shotgun!!" hoping for a plane ride and instead, they gave him a shotgun.....;)

JJAlpha or other RusNavy experts - ship ID?
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to Brit_Radar_Dude's topic in Military and Aviation
An ID from sv-rus in less than 5 hours - Fast work !! Plus a link to more details and background info and photo's from JJAlpha - outstanding work. But no more than one would expect from this Forum, and I think that says a lot about the people in the Lockon Community. Reps on the way.... -
So what's the real performance of R-73
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to nscode's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Why not? A friend of mine used to work on anti-ship missiles years ago. One of them had both a radar and IR seeker. When they were running tests, they would check the IR seeker was working by walking around the lab with a soldering iron. :) -
Saw this pic posted over at LockonFiles and it has been bugging me for a few days that I can't identify the ship in the background. Any idea's? I'm assuming it a Russian ship as the pic is taken at Sochi. Initially I thought it might be a Parchim, but the superstructure looks too chunky for that. Too blurred to really tell but does it have 30mm fore and aft?

Jaguar and F-8, two of my favorites!! Hubman and the rest of the AdA Mod team, keep at it, take as much time as it needs to get it right.....

I believe that if you are using Vista, then you will need v1.12b as it has extra Vista related stuff compared to v1.12a Try here for patches, just make sure you get the correct version of the patch for your version of FC - it is different for download FC, FC on a CD, etc etc. http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=17&lang=en

My observations are that the Mod works by replacing the earth embankment that are located around some of the single (bomber size) parking places on some airbases with the eye candy - lights, tow bars, signs etc. As for the apron areas, a couple of bases have little grey boxes on an apron area. The Mod replaces the little grey boxes with the eye candy. As to how the Mod actually works? I had a look at what files this Mod uses and had a guess at how it works based on my observations of which bases the Mod seems to affect. I confess I'm no expert at how Lockon does its graphics magic, but here goes.... The Mod adds into .....Bazar\terrain\structures\high the following files; BOX.LOM KAPONIR.LOM Already present in that folder is BOX.CMD and KAPONIR.CMD. I assume the presence of the .LOM files means Lockon will obey them rather than the .CMD files. The Mod also adds some stuff into ...\Bazar\TempTextures a .BMP file and four .TGA files. I guess these actually describe the eye candy shape and colour as the (replacement) .LOM files appear to call these up when I examined the .LOM files with a text editor. My guess (and I've a 50/50 chance of being correct ;) ) is that BOX is the little grey box and KAPONIR is the embankment. So to expand it to other bases, the author would likely need to completely change the way it works.

The big bomber sized individual parking areas that have the earth embankment around them on certain airbases will be modified by this Mod. Saki, Razdolnoye, Dzhankoy, Kirovskoye, Krasnogvardeyskoye, Gvardeyskoye, Krymsk, Maykop In addition, airbases that have a certain type of larger parking area with a small grey toolbox? or something by each parking spot will become the multiple parking area with the dividers as shown on Lothamroth's screenies above. Seems to be only Saki, and Oktyabrskoye after a very quick check. Tried it on my v1.02 installation and most of the textures are just white, but that may just be my installation - it has been heavily modded. My average rig Athlon 3000, Radeo9800Pro took quite an FPS hit when looking at one of these parking areas, but that didnt surprise me, I'd expect that for so much eye candy.

OK, this is aviation related. Apparently in his divorce settlement Paul McCartney had to buy his ex-wife heather Mills a plane...... . . . . . . . .....and a Phillips Lady Shave for the other leg.

As he mentioned Tomcatz, I think my Brummy friend might be speaking of this work going on in the German Lockon Community ? http://www.lockonforum.de/thread.php?threadid=3529 These Pics from the last page of that thread, that shows what progress they are making so far.... http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/3905/lockon2008033014340890pm2.jpg http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/472/lockon2008033014325506iu3.jpg

What happened to the terrain improvement mod??
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to Stratos's topic in DCS Modding
Am I correct in saying that we are still waiting for the release of the Base Mod that had the Runway and Taxiway signs, extra overhead lights, etc ? I recall that screenshots of such additions to Sochi-Adler were posted a while ago. Or are these additions in a Mod that I've missed? I would imagine that adding such things to all the other airbases in Lockon would be a time consuming task, hence my assumption that this has not been released yet. -
Maybe the Devs are simulating S-300 batteries that have not been issued these missiles. Maybe the Devs are simulating a combat situation where all those longer range miisles have been fired and the S-300 batteries are forced to use older missiles. Maybe the Devs are simulating a time frame before those longer range missiles were developed and put into production. Maybe the Devs....... etc etc.

Haha! What the hell happened?
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to Alexrey's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Well, I have a cousin who knows someone, who has a friend, etc etc. ;) What I meant was that I come in on the approach at that speed. By the time I've chopped the descent rate and throttles over the runway threshold, I'm probably down to 270-300 when I actually touch down. -

A few questions about Flaming Cliffs
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to Alexrey's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
No. But be careful what you call it, what you mean is SAVED STATE, not Save Game. Saved State is where you save a mission part way through and then start it up again at some later date. For the vast majority of folks (if not all of them) this sadly does not work. So the advice is, do not start a Mission unless you are pretty sure you have time to finish it. Not a big deal as many missions are only 15-20 minutes long in my experience. If the phone rings and it is important, then they will ring back later ;). What does work is saving in a Campaign, ie once you have finished a particular mission in a campaign, you can save your progress so you can move onto the next mission within the campaign
