  1. The problem with getting the map only is that modern units will not fit in very well. The towns, props and structures will be from the 1940s. Likewise, I don't think there will be many air fields which can accommodate the jets. Helicopters wouldn't be too bad. Unless you just want to fly a handful of playable WWII planes in a proper setting but with no units to conduct combat with, I don't see why you would not want the AI units. Perhaps a few people just want the map so they can fly their P-51 alone. It is not really much of a deal though. $60 gets you the map + AI units. Considering the price of NTTR, I think it is fair. I am just worried about the few people who may misunderstand and the potential of further fracturing the community. What they are worth are based on two things really: 1) What they sell for. In this instance, it is worth $60 otherwise ED would charge more. 2) The next important part which you already mentioned, what the market feels is acceptable. I think $60 is fair assuming the AI units are up to par and behave properly for their time period. But that is just my opinion.
  2. It would make a lot more sense if the only option was the bundle. If you own one, you own both. Makes it less confusing and less of a chance to fracture the community. $60 for the map and AI units seems fair and simple. I think just about everyone will buy both anyways; I don't see why you would buy one and not the other. Not trying to criticize, but I think it would make life a lot more simpler for everyone.
  3. Couldn't you just use the MIG-29 PFM (when it is released) that ED makes? Obviously it is not correct for a MIG-35, but maybe some tweaks can be done to make it closer to reality. I don't think the exact information for MIG-35 flight dynamics will be declassified anytime soon for the public, so I suppose using the eventual MIG-29 PFM would be a good starting point.
  4. Did Germany ever use the S? I believe they only used the G (A with minor differences).
  5. I am looking for some skin requests, preferably for the MIG-29S. Looking for real world skins at this time. PM me as much info on a livery with as many references as possible, and I will see what I can do.
  6. MiG-29A/S Razgriz 016 Blaze Livery This is a recreation of the MIG-29 color scheme of the Razgriz squadron leader, "Blaze" 016 from Ace Combat 5. 7. Not the aircraft I wanted to see by a long shot, but I had fun flying them in Jane's USAF mods many years ago. A somewhat forgotten aircraft which should be fun to fly nonetheless.
  8. This is a recreation of the MIG-29 color scheme the ace "Markos" flew Ace Combat 04 Shattered Skies. Download here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/2375130/ Also looking for suggestions for MIG-29 skins, preferably the S.
  9. I will re-download Notepad++ when I get a chance. I decided to give Wordpad a try, and that seems to have worked. I assume Anniversary Update changed something with Notepad, as it reset most of my settings. Thanks for the help everyone.
  10. Having a bit of an issue working on a skin. Whenever I edit a .lau file using Notepad, the skin I am working on will no longer show up in the ED Model Viewer or in game. Essentially, the last skin that has been viewed will appear in its place. I get no error when saving the .lau file. What I can do is exit the texture template files and replace a current skin. I can drop my new .DDS files in place of old ones and I can view the changes that way. I can create a new folder, copy an existing description.lau file and I can view it in the ED Model Viewer fine. But as doing this will not change the in game display name, you can not view it in game. Typically I will edit the name here: } name = "Insert In Game Name" And remove bort numbers if needed. But again, as soon as I make a small change, merely changing the name = part, the skin will simply not show up. This means I can not add the new skin to the game, and only replace one of the default ones. I have made a number of skins before and never had this issue. I am running Windows 10 Pro 64bit, and I have recently installed the Anniversary Update. I am not sure if this update has changed anything that might be causing this problem. DCS is installed in Program Files x86. The last time I made skins was for the F-5E skin contest a few months back and I never had this issue. The only thing I can think of is an update to DCS or the Win 10 Anniversary Update. If anyone has any pointers to solving this issue I would appreciate it.
  11. Some nice options out there. Any word on when a template will be released?
  12. Not going to happen for many reasons. DCS will take a good while to map all of your buttons but that is expected given the large amount of controls. This game is probably not for you. I would try DCS FC3 first as they are easier to set up. But I would not try something like A-10C, MIG-21, ect. They have a massive amount of functions to configure. As for your PC, just assemble it yourself. Use good brands and buy quality products and you shouldn't have much if any issues. I actually found the 360 harder to use many years ago, because you needed to do updates and the like in a horribly outdated interface.
  13. A simple screen shot which shows how nice the lighting can look; both the sun rise and the city lighting. I hope custom skins are eligible to enter. Wingman entry: Darpa14 Thanks for holding the giveaway IronMike, 104th and Leatherneck.
  14. I use Crucial (Micron). Seem to be better in price than Samsung with almost the performance of the Evos, although the MX300 750GB I got is not as fast as their previous drives relative to the current offerings. But at $100 it was too good of a deal to pass up.
  15. Was a typo in the thread, 10308 is what I entered in the firewall exceptions.
  16. I am trying to host a server for a friend to join but they are unable to see my server. Likewise I am unable to see their servers. Not sure what has changed in recent versions but I used to be able to host a server. I am trying both DCS 2 Alpha and DCS 1.5 I have made an exception in Windows Firewall under Inbound Rules for port 10380, which seemed like one solution when I searched but this has not worked. What settings much I change in my router, if any?
  17. Thanks for holding the giveaway! Just sent my PM. Hope some of you enjoy the skin I entered. :)
  18. I will enter. Why do I need this? I can give it to a family member.
  19. Number one priority should be getting the MIG-29S 3D model done, because we actually fly that aircraft. The A looks wonderful and I would like to see the same treatment applied for the S.
  20. I'd be happy if some 3rd party developers specialized in such modules. It gives you some more flexibility with aircraft and hopefully reduced development costs/times.
  21. F-16. We already have an excellent MIG-29A/S which will get better with the new flight model. Unless they bring an SMT/M/K I won't have interested in a full detailed model.
  22. But it would still be cheaper. Value is relative. Would I pay $20 for a pack of WWII planes? Rather likely. Would I get one for free? Of course! Would I pay $40 for a single WWII plane? Likely not. I simply don't value the product to be worth that much, so I won't purchase it. Time is another big factor. If I know I won't get to play the module much I am going to be more weary of spending $40-60 on it. But at $15 I'm more likely to take the risk of getting a module I don't like or will likely end up never being used. Personally, I think that would be better option than sales every month. A few larger sales rather than many mediocre sales. It can also give new modules a 3-4 month window between sales depending on the release date. This is all just my opinion, however.
  23. Personally I'd like to see the large discount sales come back for older modules. Not a fan of the bundles because they rarely offer modules I am interested in. Obviously, older modules would get discounted more where as just released would not be discounted. Next sale maybe a minor discount, the sale after that a bit more, ect. Reduce the sales to a few times a year. I'd rather have a few sales with big discounts then a bunch of bundles monthly. That is of course my opinion only. I remember when there were massive discounts and seeing DCS threads pop up on general gaming forums. A lot of people bought A-10C for a massive discount and seemed to enjoy it for what it was. Got a number of people to buy some FC3 planes for cheap to. Don't seem to see that anymore, but who knows (aside from ED) how the actual sales are now VS then.
  24. My second entry is a fictional skin based off of the No.29 Squadron from the RAF. Will replace these with better screen shots when I get a chance.
