I use GT720's myself. The way the GT750/GT720/GT700 works with 720p/800p is it crops pixels for 720p, so it's better to use them in 800p mode for maximum pixel use. As far as smoothness and the 7970, I think it might actually be more CPU bound with the multi-camera than GPU bound. Be mindful, that Flim is not even pushing 3x 1080p, he's only pushing 4x 800p. Food for thought: 6220800 pixels for 5760x1080 (3x1)...a typical triplehead gamer using NVIDIA Surround or AMD Eyefinity 3x1 would be crunching that resolution. 4096000 pixels for 5120x800 (4x1)...significantly less pixel overhead than the regular 1080p triplehead user. Where the potential issue is would be CPU bound by the number of concurrent cameras in use. The GPU isn't an issue in this equation. Any good AMD Eyefintiy card capable of 4x1 can do it. I think the setup is mostly CPU bound. This issue also occurs with FSX and multi-camera. Both are CPU bottlenecked in that configuration. I'm not seeing any bottlenecking though in his videos. Looks like DCS handles multi-camera better than FSX does as far as CPU computational overhead.

A quick search of ebay for the keywords "iphone fisheye" will fix him up with the proper lens accessory.

CNC laser versus milling machine - A newbie's quest
BHawthorne replied to wolfster's topic in Home Cockpits
I just wish I had a 5x10 router and a 18x24" laser in my shop. Throw in a surplus engine lathe and drill press and you're set for about anything. -
Still not going to be before April til we get them. It'll be like a really advanced TrackIR (which should be cool). :)

How to Install Steam's A-10c to DCS World?
BHawthorne replied to Teriander's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
You don't. Just use the Steam key on the DCS World module. Uninstall it on Steam. -
The whole reason why I posted at all is I want to see an actively developed utility that will work good with all DX pipelines. To me that is really important. I find it important that if Immersaview does do something that everyone around here is properly accommodated as far as feature requirements too.
-
I've been in contact with one of the Co-Directors and the lead programmer for Immersaview. They've reviewed the SoftTH codebase. They said they're receptive to doing a new utility with better functionality and GUI but it would be scratch coded and not from the SoftTH codebase. Those of you interested in a new utility it would be useful to post a feature wishlist here and I can forward it to the powers that be at Immersaview.

If X-Sim can I'm sure SimXperience can too.
-
I know a few flight sim guys that also wire up seat massagers to sim and based on throttle or landing or getting hit they do something. I'm assuming that is the same thing as mini-transducers.

I've experienced a few examples of DBox motion actuators. They don't have much throw on those (maybe 4 inches) but even then it'll throw you around. I recall in Dirt 3 flipping a car and I got violently almost thrown out of my seat. Those actuators in your link look significantly longer throw.

CNC laser versus milling machine - A newbie's quest
BHawthorne replied to wolfster's topic in Home Cockpits
Wish there was a place like that in Wichita, KS. We're heavy aerospace manufacturing, but I donno of any maker co-ops around here. Wonder if I did a crowd source for a laser and a table if anyone would bite for around the Wichita area? We could put it in the restoration building at the Kansas Aviation Museum. -
I remember reading up on these awhile back. They even offer DIY option. Still is pretty expensive regardless of whichever route you go though. I've yet to see a motion actuated setup that is under $2000.
-
At the moment Immersaview. If Immersaview doesn't bite, I guess they'll try someone else. I let Alex know about it and they're pondering it though. The person running the petition is Darkfiber. He's on the RSI and WSGF forums. Not sure where else he frequents. If Immersaview does do a utility I'm hoping for interoperability with Nthusim Plus and Immersaview Warp utilities.

Just a head's up. I saw this petition yesterday: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?fromEmail=true&formkey=dDJVT2RIZ250TDNkYTVxU0VDdFo4c3c6MQ The person doing the petition is Darkfiber. He frequents the RSI forums. Not sure where else he frequents. This was originally brought up over there.

CNC laser versus milling machine - A newbie's quest
BHawthorne replied to wolfster's topic in Home Cockpits
A lot of machine shops will charge you for setup, so you might ask up front how much is setup cost and how much is just IPM charge. It might make the most sense just to setup a whole nested layout and cut all you can from whatever the maximum cutting area is on the machine. Stuff like that you can't really know beforehand though and is going to be different everyplace you look into. Personally, if I could find someplace locally with a decent sized cutting area for laser and a decent sized router table I'd be set for whatever is needed. I've not dug around locally much though. I've found a few router tables but no laser in a few "mom and pop" machine shops locally. One has a high speed 5x10 foot router table capable of both wood and metal. Another option is to take a few machine shop courses at a local community college. Having the run of their machine shop for the cost of a 3 hour course can more than pay for itself. Both of the major community/technical colleges in my area have engineering departments and their students do personal projects all the time in machine shops that are excellently equipped with multiple 3-axis CNC, waterjet, CNC lathes, etc... -
CNC laser versus milling machine - A newbie's quest
BHawthorne replied to wolfster's topic in Home Cockpits
It is just better to find the local CNC builders in your area and work with them to cut your pieces. Have them fork out the cash required to get a $2500 laser engraver or a $7500 router table. Only thing you really need to know is how to CAD up DXF vector art files to give to them. Have them endure the consumables, calibration and maintenance on the machines. I have a manufacturing engineering degree and I don't even want to mess with maintaining machines like that. I think it's much more important to be good with SolidWorks and Draftsight and know people with machines, than to have them yourself. -
About the only thing Logitech does right are mouse. They last longer than any other peripherals I have.

You could always finish the walls in a garage and put the simpit on wheels to pull it out of the way when in use as an actual garage. :)

For entertainment value, if you were on NVIDIA card you could use 3D Vision on them. At issue is NVIDIA Surround only allows triple display. IMHO 4 projectors > 3 projectors + S3D
-
hehe, and now you know why several of us have been toying with Optoma GameTime 720p projectors.
-
hehe, like the bucket comment. Looks great. The overhead view is going to be good for situational awareness. It's something I always thought was missing from bubble canopy aircraft in pc sims. I suggest on the ceiling projector, set it's fan setting to "high altitude" in the "options" menu.

Looks like everyone all around wants to make a buck off of it.

It was only a limited time at $9.99. It's back to 60% off $15.99 now for the rest of the Steam holiday sale. I said it was only 9 hours left on the $9.99 when I posted the original message. You snooze, you lose. :)
