  1. Yes, but I'd still like to mess with castAR too. When I talk about IR auto-calibration I always think of the video you linked. Donno if he has any patents on it though which would interfere with it being implemented into Nthusim though.
  2. I hope she said "buy" not "bye". Both are plausible but different outcomes in this sort of hobby. *chuckle*
  3. Problem is they're omitting a lot of critical information. How are they correcting the image? How are they aligning the AR to the material and IR LEDs and what is the latency? Those parts of the puzzle are make or break type of things with me. Most importantly, can this just be used in regular games without extensive modification by the developer?
  4. There are a lot of things we still don't know like FOV and head tracking latency. If they address that, I'll be very happy. :)
  5. My credit card is shot. I can't even do a single package at the moment. I might be able to pledge the first week of november though.
  6. Would be interesting. Interpreting the video, that would mean a lot of this retro-reflective material and embedded IR LEDs that blink certain codes for position calibration. Pondering what a sphere or a cube configuration might work like. Personally, I'm interested in that sort of IR LED thing anyways to assist with auto-calibration on Nthusim products. Imagine the inside of a canopy covered in the retro-reflective material. I might be over-simplifying things though.
  7. My problem with it is it looks like it's only tabletop AR. I want full room AR. I don't think they're going in that direction though considering the size of the AR areas they talk about.
  8. I actually interpreted it as the content is there but it's not been checked in the game client yet for optimization bottlenecks, only in a viewer utility. I don't think they're talking about an art asset "compile". The Area 51 video with cars moving around looks like game assets to me, not static uncompiled art assets. I could be wrong though.
  9. It would make sense to have a sub-forum where people could document their projects. that way they marginalize overlap of work. there is more merit working with someone instead of against them with competition. I'm sure there'll be some overlap because some people want to be the one that do specific locations and don't like to work in teams. That's all on them though and if they make something redundant that ED doesn't want, too bad for them. ;)
  10. With the SDK going public what is and isn't in the map is largely a moot point. I think you're going to find that the community will flesh out areas lacking and ED could always run that work through a quality control check and patch it live to everyone if they wish to. The SDK being in the public's hands will be a manpower multiplier for DCS content.
  11. PhysX is proprietary crap. Don't implement proprietary video card tech.
  12. There are only two things I'd be weary of because they are priorities with whatever LCDs I'd buy. They'd need to be able to be debezeled and they'd need to be able to turn off any HDMI signal processing engine they have to minimize latency.
  13. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nevada_Test_and_Training_Range
  14. *snickers* DCS: Bird of Prey? We have whalesong?
  15. At issue is if you make it larger and centered up on Vegas you begin encroaching on California. No way I'd want to open that can of worms required to populate those urban coastal areas with buildings. If the Nevada map did get larger in the future it would need to grow east
  16. Superimposed the map over the DCS Nevada pic to get more accurate size than the one I did earlier today.
  17. Yep, I like to fly the Grand Canyon a lot. Maybe I'll target that as a map I learn the SDK on. Do that 300x300km with a few other people.
  18. You guys want a sense of scale for DCS Nevada? I got bored and whipped this up this afternoon. Enjoy. Personally I fly out of McCarran and Nellis in P3D so this is my virtual home stomping grounds for flight simming.
  19. What CPU heartsink are you going to use?
  20. I'm just excited both DCS and P3D will have modern rendering engines soon. That should have me covered for the next 5+ years. FSX alone has been a source of years of nerd rage for me constantly tweaking and cursing at fsx.cfg.
  21. If anything DirectX 11 takes stress off the CPU and puts it on the GPU where it belongs. I would think it would make things better not worse.
  22. Yep, very interesting. Maybe we could get a group together and do a major continent. I envision something like that taking a few years to complete though depending on the group size. Once the sequester is over I'd like to convert Kansas from the nationalmap.gov. Wanting to do McConnell AFB and Smoky Hills Gun Range.
  23. Yep, only Nthusim HMD has DX11 and 64-bit at the moment. I just wish we were further along in development.
  24. If so, I'm interested in seeing the projection dome setup. If you have trouble interfacing it with a PC, let me know and I can help. :)
