  1. I went ahead and pledged for one. At the very least DCS World will have some form of 3rd party compatibility via Nthusim HMD for both Rift and CastAR. The reaosn why I suggest third party compatibility is after a certain point in the next few years there are going to be a good half-dozen viable HMD options on the market. Eagle Dynamics committing to only one HMD is not good for the customer base. It's also why I had Immersaview start development of Nthusim HMD last year.
  2. DirectX 11 is a product of 2009. That goes pretty far back as far as GPU coverage. If you're pushing up on 5 year mark on hardware, most games will crawl anyways.
  3. I got all excited about the sticky and then I saw the post date for the OP. I feel Rickroll'd. ;P
  4. DXF is the most ideal format if you plan on CAD/CAM. If you want a non-engineering format, just do 1:1 scale PDF. That can be printed off on wide format printers at any FedEx Office store. I think most of the existing plans are already in both DXF and PDF format though.
  5. I have an oddball idea. Deadman should do a Kickstarter for caliper accurate technical drawings for the A-10C. Set it at something like $1000 pledge goal. Have the plans be $25 and maybe for $100 you get 1:1 FedEx Office paper printout blueprint of the major pieces in a nested layout. That gives him incentive to do it at all. 1000 / 25 = 40 pledgers. Seems reasonable as a minimum baseline for Kickstarter and I'd fully expect it would raise more than that. Non-SWAG measurements are worth more than $25 to a lot of people on this forum. The devil is in the details though as you shouldn't set the baseline pledge goal too high. Also there is a method to my madness with the $25 price point. $25 is disposable income level. Even those that like the idea of doing a simpit in the future would buy at that cost. That means even casual people would be pledging. If it was more than that you'll be limiting to all but the die-hard simpit people, which is a small group. The DCS F-35 add-on was a prime example of unreasonable final pledge level expectations in a niche market. It's an example of what not to do.
  6. Depends if you want caliper accuracy or eyeball accuracy. Deadman is the go to guy for non-SWAG measurements as he mostly has the real stuff. There is a ton of good SWAG material out there, but it's still SWAG. SWAG = scientific wild arsed guess.
  7. Frankly, I see the rep system as a sanctioned way to troll users. If what we thought of others was important, we'd all still be in high school gossiping about each other over lunch in the cafeteria. Many of us outgrew that nonsense 25 years ago.
  8. You mention C-141 parts. I know where a C-141 simulator cockpit section is if you're interested?
  9. Why would it run slower? Unsubstantiated speculation is just random angst. :smilewink:
  10. Edit: Mod moved thread to home cockpit section making my post linking to it redundant. ;)
  11. Some people are truly bored with reality...
  12. Yep, this movie is one of those that really fun when you watch it on a very large screen in 3D.
  13. I would have enjoyed the movie a lot more if it would have used no-name actors. Bullock was ok, but Clooney's ego overpowered half the movie distracting from my overall enjoyment of it. I agree on the plot. There is zero depth and when they attempt to add depth it's pure 1 dimensional plot device. Frankly, they should've just kept the background information out of the storyline altogether and just did the whole thing strictly play-by-play. It would have been much better if they didn't even attempt to explain that stuff. The best you can hope for in the movie is to turn your brain off and enjoy the non-stop ride in IMAX 3D. IMHO the movie would suck in 2D on a smaller screen. I give the overall movie 3 stars. The 3D and FX is 5 stars, but the acting and plot is nonsense.
  14. A little fun with Google Maps 45 degree and Google Earth. Overall looks pretty good. Google Map 45 degree shows a bit of differentiation on the buildings. Makes me think that mostly top-down source material was used for a lot of it. Also parking lots are missing. Very minor nit-picks considering of the sheer amount of models Nellis requires and balancing that in mind with FPS in-game. Looks good to me. Google Maps 45 Degree: Google Earth:
  15. Agreed, PhysX is proprietary crap. Developers should focus on platform neutral solutions unless the manufacturer brings big bucks to the table as incentive. I wouldn't imagine Nvidia investing into high quality simulation when there are too many Battlefield Call of Duty games to cash in on still out there that are low hanging fruit.
  16. The empty air in that box is probably very expensive to export out of Australia. ;P
  17. I'm sure Deadman will get enough seat time in it that it'll become used again. :smilewink:
  18. Get IPS in preference of TN based displays. The viewing angle is superior. That would be my main suggestion.
  19. I like it. All that 50's instrument goodness.
  20. It's for licensing reasons. The installer just needs to see you have owned a copy of LockOn. Once FC3 is installed and activated you can go ahead and uninstall LockOn. It's a technicality in order to be legal with Ubisoft.
  21. Yes, it's not for the faint of heart. Many people at WSGF do debezzling on regular LCD displays. HDTVs are just big LCDs with a tuner in them. There is still bezel on them it's just it's the metal frame of the screen caseless -- which tends to significantly make the bezel size smaller. The main thing I would suggest is not to try it on the glossy screen tv's. They're not configured to debezel the case like people need to be able to do.
  22. Actually in my FSX setup I have one there. :)
  23. There is a new P3D 2.0 blog entry up for a mission editor they call SimDirector. http://www.prepar3d.com/news/2013/10/4561/
