  1. For take off like many others once I figured out the technique it actually became easy. I apply brakes, throttle to 2500+ RPM and release brakes and try to track her straight with right ruddder. I can take off safely 100% now with this method, it may not always be pretty but I get her in the air. As for landing, well thats a work in progress for me. I only have maybe 2 or 3 hours of sim time with the Dora so I still have some training flights ahead.
  2. The Spit and the P-51 are true elegance in the air but I like a war-machine to look mean. I like radials but am torn between the 190 and the Jug. The Jug looks like it should not fly even, with that huge prop, it just looks like a tub with wings, but knowing what I know I would boom n zoom the hell out of it. That being said I voted for the 190, always been my favorite. What a sight it must have been when the RAF first dueled with them.
  3. In the briefing screenshot you should see the cockpit. Something seems amiss with your install. Can you load the P-51 in the editor or have you messed with any missions in the editor? Barring those possibilities you may need to re-install or do file verification.
  4. I have a Cougar Stick ( just the Stick, no base ) and X and Y replacement pots. I no longer need these and would like to give them to someone who might use them. PM me if interested. edit: I have an interested party.
  5. Thanks for clarifiying, yes I was referring to moving targets. The klyon PS does ground stabilize.
  6. One stand out difference between the T and the A is the A's Klyon PS Laser-range finder and target designator. Works great for slant range but when firing laser guided missiles the target que must be manually slewed to stay on target. If you can master that in a combat environment and not get target fixated and/or over fly your target, you can pretty much do anything in the game. Well at least for me it is tough to master and that makes it fun and challenging.
  7. A2A has done amazing things within the confines of FSX. Their more recent products like the prolific 172 Skyhawk and the cub are excellent. I honestly cant say the same for the A2A P-51. The AFM is superior in every way to FSX FM. However, the cockpit and 3D model of both are very comparable and in some ways I prefer A2As. Its actually fun to spot the differences. I prefer to fly the DCS version because of the skill requirement and immersion. If I want to fly VFR around my own stomping grounds in the Pac northwest I fly the A2A version.
  8. The Su-25A has the ASP-17 "Gun-sight" page 55 in the FC3 manual.
  9. I noticed when I loaded the Su-25 that trackIR_z axis was mapped to "zoom_view" by default. This is not ideal, atleast for me. When using trackIR and leaning forward (tracker_z axis) I want my head to move forward in the cockpit but "zoom" to remain normal. So the correct mapping of the tracker_z axis is "cockpit camera move forward/backward". This then allows me to map my HOTAS slider to "zoom_view" for much more functional view controls. Anyway, this worked better for me.
  10. I noticed that the director circle in the Su-25T hud now tracks waypoints correctly in enr mode, awsome!! This was'nt working in 1.2.2 atleast not for me.
  11. Running the 13.2 Beta 6 myself. WIN7 64 SP1 I7 920 @ 4 ghz 8 gig DDR3 SAPPHIRE 7970 DCS 1.2.2 I recently added FC3 and reinstalled everthing and had issues with texture flickering from various structures such as power line towers and airfields. Not unbearable issues but enough to distract. I updated to CAT 13.1 hoping that they would fix my issues but no such luck. I again reinstalled everything including all of DCS 1.2.2 and CAT drivers. The issues remained. I also tested with various games such as Crysis 2 and 3, Skyrim and Borderlands and these games were clear of issues. I also ran the Valley benchmark from Unigine. Granted those arent directx 9.0c titles. I was about to make a lengthy post about my issue when I saw the Beta drivers were available. I loaded them up and low and behold my flickering was gone and I am experiencing slightly better frames to boot. So far so good. These will definitely be installed when released final.
  12. Maybe not for the purists but I like the active pause button even with the P51 sometimes. It wasnt listed in the controls input for the P51 Real so I added it. Was pretty easy just paste this: {combos = {{key = "P"}, }, down = iCommandActivePauseOnOff, name = "Active Pause", category = "Cheat"} into the keyboard.lua for the P51 located in your C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\P-51D file. Maybe someone else is like me and gets bogged down even with a HOTAS and an old steam gauge cockpit. Cheers
  13. You can edit the snapviewdefault.lua and change the position around. I have not done it myself. A search in the A-10C forum will reveal several similiar threads. Pretty sure the P51 has the same lua file. I am not quite sure why you need to adjust it though. Is your computer chair not adjustable? After you center the TRACKIR, just lower or raise your sitting position. I can move my position around just enough to get the position that I am comfortable with. That may not solve your issue, just a suggestion. Cheers.
  14. Well I found my answer, there is an auto rudder check box under special. I guess I should have read the readme. They snuck that one in.
  15. Just flew the p51 with 1.2.1 last night. Did a few take off and landing runs to test the flight model changes. I was really suprised how minimal the roll tendency was even when pushing to the firewall and without the 5 degree rudder trim. I went back into options to check my settings and made sure my flight model was set to simulation. Maybe I missed a new setting for auto rudder or something? I am at work so I cant verify anything but I hope I missed something in the options menu. She behaves pretty tame compared to other obligatory P51 sims.
  16. Sounds like you have some kind of control assignment conflict. Make sure you are not activating the stick to trimmer function. Even better play it safe and delete all assignment for trimmer and control axis and start fresh. Do you have an old stick with pots or something newer with hall effect sensors?
  17. All of my current mission editor projects just came to a screeching halt.
  18. Check out the multi-monitor sub-forum. You will find lots of similar questions discussed and get lots of ideas. Generally speaking multi monitor setups benefit from GPUs that are geared to handle the extra load.
  19. How they pack so much punch into a hockey puck is amazing. Just a side thought because I am by no means a weapons expert, how effective are these against moving columns? From an armchair general perspective, I am keeping my tanks on the move. We saw how effective stationary or hull down armor was in the first gulf war. Doesnt seem like modern commanders would let their armor fall prey to this weapon. If there is/was an existing thread on this please point me in the right direction. Wow nevermind, I sadly missed the discussion only a few threads down.
  20. DCS is very CPU bound so definitely you will see a difference. With the i5 2500k you can easily push a 5 ghz overclock without sweating. On the other hand, I am runnin an I7 920 @ 4.0GHZ and so I decided to upgrade from 2 5870 to a 7970. Crossfirex doesnt work in DCS anyway. I get a fairly consistant 60 to 70 FPS avg, minimums of 30 with peaks around 150 fps. From my experience, going to the 7970 gave a significant increase in fps, double in most cases. Not bad for a $550 dollar upgrade, not to mention a serious decrease in power consumption.
  21. Who knows maybe after this they will release a proper counterpart such as Me109 or FW190.
  22. I am a big fan of these old prop powered beasts and I spend alot of time flying the accusim P-47 and Spitfire Mk1 in FSX. My favorite aspect of those two particular sims are the engine modelling aspects, such as the turbo superchargers, fuel management and cooling. They offer a different level of challenge that can be alot of fun to learn. Those old fighter jocks didnt just yank and bank around the sky. I hope the DCS P-51 takes this fidelity to an even higher level.
  23. What Smokin Hole said. On my TM Warthog I mapped the paddle switch at the base of the joystick ( cant remember what its really called ) to my trimmer, then mapped the pinkie switch to toggle the flight director. I use my saitek rudder pedals toebrakes for braking. With FD on you are not fighting the auto pilots but you still have stability augmentation. She just goes where you want. Once you have a stable flight regime after a maneuver, switch FD off. With FD on you can still trim, but the stability modes wont fight against you when change flight regimes. Lets say you have the cyclic trimmed to the right, but you want to complete a quick turn and move the cyclic left, the autopilot wont fight you by trying to maintain heading. Just remember to switch the FD off before you try to hover. Once I started doing that, it was a new experience in the Kamov.
  24. I can confirm that atleast with Trackir 5 and latest driver that when I pause tracking and click alt-c I can pan with mouse in cockpit. I know that doesnt help the FaceTrackNoIR users sorry. Just wanted to clarify.
  25. You are right sorry, I have been converting BS v1 skins over and was explaining it from that angle. A lot of user created skins from lockonfiles are in cdds format and I found I needed to convert them into individual dds in order for them to work. Sorry for any confusion. Did'nt know about paint.net thanks for the info. When you add new skins you are getting them to work without adding this line (for example) in the graghics.cfg: path = ".\\Bazar\\World\\textures\\Ka-50_Fictional_Worn_Black"; Just curious because I thought it was required.
