I've been balls deep into this sim for months now. I'm getting comfortable the all the little bells and whistles, loving every minute, and feel confident that I can use the various systems to good effect. As I fly around engaging various targets I'm starting to wonder, how would a real pilot approach this situation? I've read some really helpful texts on the subject but, for me, nothing is as helpful as some good cockpit footage. I found these the other night and thought I'd share. (HUD tape, training) Schmorgesborg (nice gun run and landing) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TyunFbfpXM A2A sidewinder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=621RNJMunnU&feature=related A2A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS84uLr69hA&feature=related Dive Bombing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ke2ZEIiSmHU&feature=related Guns (you can see the TP "tracers" in this one) http://www.thewarthogpen.com/video_clip_files/gun_behind.wmv I thought it would be nice to have a place for others to post good quality cockpit footage of a10s in combat or training. (I'm thinking we should limit it to HUD footage only, as this is really about the precise maneuvers used in combat to employ weapons) So if you've got em, let er rip!

The TM warthog=thrustmaster warthog, a very expensive (some might say overpriced ;)) HOTAS system made by the company thrustmaster. It's a very close replica of the a10c controls. And if you ask me, a damn nifty toy. However with a price tag in the 500's and some real concerns about reliabilty (my first throttle died after 3 weeks, it was promptly replaced by TM) I can't in good faith give it a full recommendation. If you've got the dough, however, it will make the sim much more immersive IMHO @RECOIL. Out of curiosity, what was the solution to your engine issue?
-
I see. First, try setting the engines off (I think this is a bug [i'm assuming you're not using a TM warthog]) by hitting RAlt+end and RCtrl+end, then try cycling the engines back on, one at a time. I had this problem in the past until I upgraded to the TM warthog, I'm pretty sure it's a bug. I also have a hazy memory of reading something that indicated that programing this feature to a joystick, other than the TM, might be difficult. Not really sure why, like I said it's a hazy memory but it's floating around up there...

You need to be much more specific, and include your track file, I could write for 30min about the startup procedure (You don't want that!). Where exactly are you losing the instructor? While setting the throttle from off to idle? or one of the other countless steps?

Set those scenarios up in the editor. I have yet to try any of the missions, I prefer to create "set piece" type battles, for a more epic feel...:pilotfly:

Latest badass discovery; The "burping" sound a Vulcan AA cannon makes when it's firing at you. Also, the effect of 3 B52's dropping rockeyes onto a target. That's a lot of bomblets!

This isn't going to be the most helpful response, I'm away from my computer, but I know that this can be done. Try playing with the TMS commands with the TAD set as SOI, one of those switches will un-hook a hooked symbol

That's a beautiful model, nice work! -

It does when changing the slew rate of the TGP

Is it realistic to use the rudder during gun-runs
SmokeyTheLung replied to kingneptune117's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
edit; outrageously redundant... -
It represents the control speed of the seeker head of the missile, so yea it controls the "crosshair" A lower value will mean a slower sensitivity

speedbreak difficulties on my Cougar

You may be stuck with this one, as far as I know the real speed break switch does have to be held in order to open them up. (just tapped to close them) -
TM WH Throttle - Totally Dead
SmokeyTheLung replied to Flamin_Squirrel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Same issue here, tried the suggested "fix" with no luck. After some back and forth with TM i've decided to send back the throttle for replacement. Look on the bright side, if you're in the UK shipping charges will be small, I'm looking at $70 bucks just to get it back to them. (in all fairness they say they will refund my shipping expenses, although Im anxious to see how that's gonna work) -
Keep working at it, force yourself to read up on the various systems. There are no easy answers. Start with what ever aspects of the sim fascinate you the most and that way it won't feel like work, the rest of the pieces will fall into place.

Perhaps I'm misunderstood; Lets say you've just dropped a GBU-10 in an area with 7 parked vehicles. Usually I get a few, lets say 3, direct secondaries. The 4 remaining vehicles will almost always be on fire, they will also "cook off" at the exact same time. I'm suggesting that that aforementioned "cook off" time be randomized. If you did understand me and there is a way to enable this in the editor, please let me know how, as it seems unrealistic that any vehicle that's on fire will explode exactly 7 second (arbitrary figure) after being ignited.
-
I think a simple script that would "randomize" the timing of secondary explosions would add a lot of immersion. As it stands now all vehicles seem to burn for a set amount of time, then explode. In reality secondaries from burning vehicles could take some time to occur.

Had a saitek x52, thought it was fine for my purposes. Recently upgraded to TM warthog. Sadly throttle stopped working on the TM, while waiting for a replacement I've reverted to my x52. I can't believe that I ever even used the x52, that's how big the difference is. It's like comparing a squirt gun to a 12gauge, toy vs tool...

Another (somewhat) useful function would be to adjust the gunsight while the HUD is de-cluttered. I'm not actually sure whether the de-cluttered HUD symbology represents a gunsight, but you can use it as one...
-
Sadly I had just installed the new firmware when this issue appeared. According to what I've been reading that could complicate getting this thing fixed. Anyone know how to "re-flash" the throttle?
-
no, you've got to disable trackIR for that view to function properly

"USB device not recognized" is the message I get when I try to use my throttle, sounds like I'm having the same issue some of you guys are describing. I'm getting five green lights on the throttle, but otherwise its unresponsive. The stick seems to be fine. Curious to know if anyone has fixed this problem on their thrustmaster? Just as I was getting the hang of it...:(

I just had to resurrect this old thread... Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure a salvo of rockets that I just fired at some virtual Russians sent them flying (well more like sliding). ED your work continues to amaze me. The troops, and their reactions to fire are more and more convincing! This sim is flat out AMAZING! Cant wait to enjoy the further refinements as they are worked in. Thanks again ED

Slew rate affects how fast the seeker(crosshair) of the maverick moves, by default they are set the the fastest rate. Lowering the value will simply lower the sensitivity of the controls. I'm at work, so I'm not sure about your first question, I think the keyboard command to re-center is "C". Check out the manual, it's all in there... *sniped!*
